Tome Thursday: To The Edge

Hello everyone!

This week, I'm doing a slightly different book from a lot of others you can find on my reading list, but then again you COULD potentially find more of this genre around here if you looked very closely.

After all, bodyguards with haunted pasts that come out of the military service? Can we all say yes, please?

I mean, come on. That's probably the most cliché thing that's ever been invented and written about, but the thing is, people, okay, WOMEN, tend to gobble this up like it's something completely and utterly delicious.

Which is often true, of course.

So when one of my best friends suggested this particular author, Cindy Gerard, because of the fact that her books have all these bodyguard storylines, I have to admit that I was hooked on the description and ran to find the copy of To the Edge, which is the first of this series.

After all, as I keep telling my mother whose tendency it is to buy books in the middle of a series, you have to start at the beginning.

Talkie Tuesday: TMNT Out of the Shadows

"Why aren't we going with the Turtles?
When something bad happens, you want to be with the Turtles!"

Hello everyone!

Right about now, the upper part of the house is in complete shambles because my parents are renovating the master bedroom. At this moment alone, about a third of it is currently sitting in MY room (including but not limited to a funny winter hat that's eyeing me while I sleep) and I thank every deity above that I have my desk in the opposite corner by the window, otherwise I would so not be able to get to it.

But enough about my habitat woes.

Tuesdays are my movie days, but truth be told I've been a little bit on the slide when it comes to movies, mostly because for some reason our TV network decided that it's going to stream a whole boat load of amazing ones from years past.

This means that, around Saturday-ish when I usually watch a movie to review in my Tuesday blog, I watch stuff like Kingdom of Heaven or Pirates of the Caribbean.

I mean, I'm not complaining! I just have a hard time deciding what, specifically, I'm going to type about, then.

Which is how I got distracted by the last Power Rangers trailer, and remembered my old, old friends: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Out of the Shadows!

Tome Thursday: Lover Reborn

Hello everyone!

Time for yet another book blog and, as this spring seems to be in the sign of them, I have been re-reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood novels from the beginning (although yes, I have started them prior to spring; even I can't read that fast!). Right about now I'm at a pause around numbers ten and eleven, which for any book series is a whole lot, actually.

Thinking about it, I need to dig really hard to try and remember any other which would have been so successful with an original series to come to these high numbers and still continue to write.

But that aside, I mostly stick ith these books because they're a very good, entertaining and relaxing read. Do they have drama? Of course. They also have a whole lot of romance and subplots that mean you have to keep your wits about you and keep track of what's happening through the whole four or five hundred pages, but that's the magic of book reading anyway.

I've done quite a number of J. R. Ward reviews at this point and I just keep coming back, which does mean that eventually I'll have them all bagged up nicely, with tags to go along.

I'm definitely looking forward to that day!

In the meantime, let's jump right in to Lover Reborn.

Talkie Tuesday: Beauty and the Beast

"Tale as old as time ..."

Hello everyone!

Finally, Tuesday arrived so that I can sit down and properly get this going. And can you notice that I've been excited for this blog post since the moment I sat down in cinema to watch the movie?

If you haven't figured it out by now, this post will undoubtedly make it all clear to you.

Now.

Beauty and the Beast, the Disney cartoon version, that is (and never did I think I'd have to make sure people knew what I was talking about ...) is my all-time favourite Disney movie. That wasn't made spectacularly clear to me prior to seeing the live-action movie, however, which is a shame. I was unsure about which princess I preferred, what storyline was the most awesome, but then, last Friday, as the first orchestral notes started and all the hair on my arms stood up straight, I just knew.

Obviously, my parents were already well aware of that fact.

Duh, said my father, that was the first ever Disney cartoon we got you and you saw as a kid when you were four or five years old. That kind of thing sticks with you forever.

Parental wisdom ...

But, without further ado, my review of the live-action Beauty and the Beast!

Tome Thursday: Heir of Fire

Hello everyone!

In honour of finishing another Maas book, I decided to hit the reviews yet again and see just what, precisely, I'm missing in a series I've been reading.

This series being, of course, the Throne of Glass series.

I've said it before somewhere and it bears repeating: for some odd reason, I can only read about Celaena if I'm really in the mood, and this works so that if I'm in said mood AND I pick up the book, I'll breeze through it in one or two sittings.

But, should I be in the mood, and get distracted, then I won't be able to get back into it by the time I return.

This, usually, leads to the poor assassin-slash-queen having to sit there and stew for a while as I go about my merry way.

Sometimes it takes me longer than usual to get back on track.

Unfortunately, this was also what happened with Heir of Fire.

Talkie Tuesday: Doctor Strange

"It's not about you."

Hello everyone!

Finally, everything seems to be settled enough so that I can write up a blog post on the day it's supposed to be written. I feel so accomplished, haha!

Luckily, I seem to have found a knack for managing my time a little bit better. It's amazing how much the house of cards can come down all around you when you stop paying attention for even the slightest moment, and then once that happens EVERYTHING follows right along that track, no questions asked.

Lists are my new favourite thing and my best friends. I kid you not.

Which is truly sad, considering the fact that I used to make them but then fell out of the habit ... and now I'm back in the saddle, so to speak! But I'm rambling like a teenager out on her first date so I might as well get to the point.

This past weekend, I finally, FINALLY sat down to watch Doctor Strange, and I say 'finally' with a note of annoyance at myself. I don't usually dawdle so much with Cumberbatch's movies.

Saturday Talkie Tuesday: Shadowhunters 2A

"This is the hunt."

Hello everyone!

So this week, admittedly, has not been the best in terms of what I'm doing on my blog and which posts I'm typing up for anyone who's reading this. I do apologise. I promise, this Tuesday is going to be back to normal with the review when it's supposed to be, although if it's true and there's a musical cross-over happening between Supergirl and The Flash, I may just have to review that one instead of a movie!

But I digress.

What happened this week was that Shadowhunters had its winter finale and OH MY GOSH everyone, but can I just say how amazing this show is?!

I never would have imagined it after a slightly rocky start in season one, but they're firing on all cilinders now and the only bad thing about it that I can think of is, well, that it's been broken up into two halves.

Season 2A has just finished, but we aren't getting to see 2B before JUNE.

That's right, JUNE. So, let's review what we know of Shadowhunters so far, okay?

Tome Thursday: Two by Two

Hello everyone!

Yet again, I find myself in that inevitable trap that I will sometimes fall into. It's called the Sparks Syndrome.

Yeah, I named it. Aren't I cute?

The point of this Sparks Syndrome is that, every once in a while, despite my better judgment and DEFINITELY despite what I KNOW will turn out true for every one of his books, I will INEVITABLY pick up one of his (one of the newer ones, that is) and read through it, because something compels me to do so.

Maybe it's my obsessive compulsive mind that keeps telling me I have to READ EVERYTHING OR ELSE. RAWR.

Ahem.

Anyway.

So I went and decided that, out of the two newer ones I hadn't yet read (these being See Me and Two by Two) I was going to pick the one with the cute little girl on the cover, meaning, Two by Two.

Talkie Tuesday switch ... again

... because real life is trying to give me a good kicking.

Saturday is all about the movie though! For now, I leave you with something I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Saturday Talkie Tuesday: Moana

"I am Moana."

Hello everyone!

So, alright, I have to admit that, usually, I don't let anything or anyone deter me from making a blog post, but this past Tuesday I was SO exhausted like someone had taken my body and used it for a punching bag, for some reason or another.

Not to mention, my eyes also decided to take a sudden, unexpected break, and wouldn't even allow me to look into the screen for too long before they watered way too much.

So, unfortunately, I had to postpone my Tuesday blog post and switch it up with the Saturday snippet bit, because there was no way, at the time, for me to get even close to focusing properly on typing anything up that would make sense, one way or the other.

Which is why I'm typing this right meow.

See what I did there.

Anyway, before I digress any further, allow me to say that Disney has absolutely found its groove again with its newest cartoons, and Moana is no different!

Tome Thursday: Lover Unbound

Hello everyone!

Happy World Book Day! I would have wished you a happy first March if I'd been doing this post yesterday, but as it so happens this is even better.

But hey, at least it IS March!

If nothing else, that's something to be very happy about. In my case, it also means tossing out the heavy, furry winter blanket for a thinner one, and pulling the netting down over the window because the bugs are out in force already. How do I know this?

Unfortunately, I found one of their representatives dead on the inside of my window.

SO, the netting got pulled down after winter hibernation, and I shook myself out of my wintry mood as best as I could to sit down and write this review. And I'm still in a Ward mood here so I'm just going to go ahead and type out another one of the Brothers, because what can I say, lord knows that I'm addicted to the lot of them.

It's V's time this round, with Lover Unbound.
