The Little White Horse (Booktober)

"He is lost and gone and now I do not know

If it was a little white horse that I saw,

Or only a moonbeam astray in the silver night."

No fall reading list can ever be complete without something along the likes of this. A hidden valley somewhere in England; an old family mystery; and a little girl with a fierce belief in the good of this world, searching for the unicorn that will make everything right again. Elizabeth Goudge created a timeless classic with her Little White Horse fairytale, one that adults and children alike reach for on the daily. Even I do, and often, when the mists dance through my own home valley. Because who knows - maybe you'll be the one to see the little white horse, standing proudly and beckoning!

In 1842, thirteen-year-old orphan Maria Merryweather arrives at Moonacre Manor, her family's ancestral home in an charmed village in England's West Country, and she feels as if she’s entered Paradise. But the enchanted valley of Moonacre is shadowed by a tragedy that happened years ago, and the memory of the Moon Princess and the mysterious little white horse. Determined to restore peace and happiness to the whole of Moonacre Valley, Maria finds herself involved with an ancient feud, and she discovers it is her destiny to end it and right the wrongs of her ancestors. But what can one solitary girl do?

Tome Thursday: To The Edge

Hello everyone!

This week, I'm doing a slightly different book from a lot of others you can find on my reading list, but then again you COULD potentially find more of this genre around here if you looked very closely.

After all, bodyguards with haunted pasts that come out of the military service? Can we all say yes, please?

I mean, come on. That's probably the most cliché thing that's ever been invented and written about, but the thing is, people, okay, WOMEN, tend to gobble this up like it's something completely and utterly delicious.

Which is often true, of course.

So when one of my best friends suggested this particular author, Cindy Gerard, because of the fact that her books have all these bodyguard storylines, I have to admit that I was hooked on the description and ran to find the copy of To the Edge, which is the first of this series.

After all, as I keep telling my mother whose tendency it is to buy books in the middle of a series, you have to start at the beginning.

Tome Thursday: The Venetian Contract

Hello everyone!

Ugh these last two days have been somewhere between horrible and barely tolerable; I've been working off a headache that was trying to turn into a full-blown migraine, and it was so NOT fun. I don't usually get these since I attempt to stay hydrated and get away from the computer as much as I can, but for some reason (I suspect something though) this has just been impossible and I've only very recently (like, maybe a few hours ago) started feeling more like a human being again.

Enough so, at any rate, to try and get a blog post up, considering it's Thursday! I kept getting distracted throughout the day by self-medicating the headache, giggling over Shadowhunters and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comedic lines, and listening to very low-tuned music.

Apparently, it helped (plus I took painkillers).

So now I'm fit enough for the time being to type this up and hopefully it's going to make some sense somewhere, otherwise ... well, otherwise I'm in trouble aren't I?

Tonight I'll talk about a historic fiction book, The Venetian Contract.
