Tome Thursday: City of Masks

Hello everyone!

Time flies when you're having fun. I can't believe it's Thanksgiving already for the Americans! It's like someone wound the clock to go faster and faster.

I'm now allowed to watch Christmas movies AND listen to Christmas music, and I can admit I've already taken GOOD advantage of this. After all, I have a heck of a lot to catch up on with Hallmark's countdown!

That being said, however, I still really enjoy picking up books that I may remember reading when I was younger but then unfortunately losing sight of.

This is what happened with me this week.

When I was in high school (and before that, and still later, and today), I tended to devour anything that my local library had to offer. Among those was a series of books about an alternate universe Italy, which I completely forgot about.

Well, no more! Let's start it with City of Masks.

Tome Thursday: The Book of Life

Hello everyone!

I'm here with the final installment in the witchy-vampire-y trilogy!

Alright that made almost zero sense, but you'll see what I mean as soon as you start reading the actual blog post, I promise.

Two weeks ago I decided to read and review the first of Deborah Harkness' worldwide bestselling All Souls trilogy, A Discovery of Witches, and then of course I couldn't just put the book down and let the other two rest.

I can do that with certain other series, but this one made it virtually impossible.

There's something about these characters and the world that sucks you right in, which means you're unlikely to resurface before you've made it all the way through and it spits you out the other side.

I did take my time and made it a weekly thing per book, however, otherwise my eyes (and probably my brain) would have gone on strike and fritzed out. But I'm finally finished with the original trilogy now!

So without further ado, let's dive right into The Book of Life.

Tome Thursday: The Venetian Contract

Hello everyone!

Ugh these last two days have been somewhere between horrible and barely tolerable; I've been working off a headache that was trying to turn into a full-blown migraine, and it was so NOT fun. I don't usually get these since I attempt to stay hydrated and get away from the computer as much as I can, but for some reason (I suspect something though) this has just been impossible and I've only very recently (like, maybe a few hours ago) started feeling more like a human being again.

Enough so, at any rate, to try and get a blog post up, considering it's Thursday! I kept getting distracted throughout the day by self-medicating the headache, giggling over Shadowhunters and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comedic lines, and listening to very low-tuned music.

Apparently, it helped (plus I took painkillers).

So now I'm fit enough for the time being to type this up and hopefully it's going to make some sense somewhere, otherwise ... well, otherwise I'm in trouble aren't I?

Tonight I'll talk about a historic fiction book, The Venetian Contract.
