Talkie Tuesday: Eternals

"When you love something, you protect it."

Hello everyone!

Well, we made it.

Four weeks and four Marvel movies later, we're now all caught up until No Way Home becomes readily available for streaming, since I'm still not comfortable just going to the cinema to see it in these times.

And man, it was a bumpy, bumpy ride!

It started off weak and then climbed until it peaked last week, so I was fully expecting this week's to knock it out of the park, except ... it didn't.

Not even a little bit.

It's disappointing because one would THINK that after so many years of making these movies Marvel would have the formula for success down pat, and yet it looks like that's not even remotely the case as they continue further into Phase Four.

They're doing okay with the TV shows, but the movies are often struggling.

Let's dive right into Eternals, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

"A blood debt has to be paid by blood.

Hello everyone!

Week three in our Marvel catch-up series and we're still going strong, trying to finish off the month with HOPEFULLY a top note rather than a low one!

And thus far, it hasn't disappointed me yet.

After a rough start with Far From Home, Black Widow helped us rise out of the abyss, but it's tonight's movie that REALLY gets the ball rolling, and us soaring! Rhyme unintended, but I mean, we work with what we've got here.

I'll admit I went into the movie more-or-less blind, as I've only seen the teaser trailer way back when, then nothing whatsoever, and ended up watching the movie late as well.

It paid off, though.

It SO paid off.

Without further ado, let's open the scroll of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: Avengers Endgame

"Avengers ... assemble."

Hello everyone!

Well, against all odds, I finally made it.

Not that it didn't take me freaking FOREVER.

The thing that happened this time was that I watched three or so Marvel movies in a row and then decided I needed to take a break - then the break turned out to be longer than expected because I just couldn't seem to find the time.

Three hours is a bit much and you need to actually plan to ensure you can get that in one go!

But I did it, and it's all under the belt now. FINALLY.

Of course it's late in comparison to when most people've seen this movie, but at this point it's not something I even worry about anymore.

I'm always late to something or other haha.

Avengers: Endgame was just the current in a long list of my lateness!

Talkie Tuesda: Avengers Infinity War

"We're in the endgame now ..."

Hello everyone!

Back with a movie blog and believe it or not I'm typing this one up at 6 am.

Why?

Because summer, that's why.

Summer has FINALLY hit the country but that means that temperatures are all over the place, aka super high and then some, which also means I either have to turn the AC on if I don't want to melt, or I simply don't go on the computer except early in the morning and then after the sun dips again late afternoon.

Unless something happens that ABSOLUTELY needs my presence online, I think I'll stick with not going online at all.

That being said, it IS time for a movie review, and why not continue along in the Marvel vein?

Heard about a Gauntlet running around? Let's look at Infinity War and see how the Avengers do.

Talkie Tuesday: Black Panther

"The wise build bridges, but the foolish build barriers."

Hello everyone!

Well, it looks like I'm finally jumping back onto the Marvel Universe band wagon.

I know, I know. It took me long enough.

I feel like, after the disappointment I felt with the Spiderman remake, I needed to step back a little and reassess what I like and dislike when it comes to Marvel. They have many more hits than they do misses, but every once in a while they make a miss so spectacular you just can't help but goggle at them.

Anyway.

A couple nights ago I FINALLY sat back to watch the movie that's been talked about all summer long and which brought in a heck of a lot of green with dollar signs.

I have to admit, that alone made me wary.

But Black Panther stood and delivered.

Talkie Tuesday: Spiderman Homecoming

"If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it."

Hello everyone!

I'm back with another movie review, and I have to admit that I might be on a bit of a Marvel binge.

I mean, come on, Infinity War just opened in theatres and it is EXPLOSIVE!

Makes me want to go back to Iron Man and watch it all from the beginning again. That would be a movie marathon to remember.

Instead, however, I picked the one presentation-movie from Phase Three that I hadn't gotten to yet (next to Black Panther) and sat down to watch it sometime last week. It's one of those things that just happens to me, I try to keep on track and end up falling woefully behind.

There's literally nothing like trying to catch up to the Marvel Express.

I'm talking about Spiderman: Homecoming.

Talkie Tuesday: Thor Ragnarok

"You cannot stop Ragnarok. Why fight it?
Because that's what heroes do!
"

Hello everyone!

So, fun story: I've actually been sitting on this movie for some time now, because, well, why would you watch it the second you can, you know?

I think I honestly just couldn't decide if I was willing to sacrifice 2+ hours when people kept saying the third Thor movie in the Marvel franchise wasn't even close to the first two. But, because AXN has been streaming Avengers (Phase one AND two, would you believe it?), I kind of got the wanderlust to finally sit down and figure out what happens next.

Turns out though I was wrong in waiting as long as I had.

Thor: Ragnarok is, as the title says it is, basically about the end of the world - or, at least, Thor's world, which in this case doesn't necessarily mean Earth. It kind of just means Asgard, but as Asgard was one of the Nine Known Realms of the cosmos connected with Yggdrasil ... you get the idea.

Still, it was one hell of a ride! Grab on to Thor's cape, it's off to Ragnarok we go!

Talkie Tuesday: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

"So, we're saving the galaxy again?"

Hello everyone!

I debated which movie to review tonight as yesterday evening I bawled my eyes out over Armageddon for the upteenth time, but then eventually decided I might as well go back to the movies still waiting to be posted up here which I watched at the seaside while I was chilling out.

Yes, I STILL have some that haven't made it to this place.

I know, I'm terrible.

In my defense though, there's always something interesting to watch and I occasionally review something a bit more current, for lack of better words. However, that being said, I was also in a discussion about superheroes last night which means I remembered this blog post's topic, and voila.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, is probably one of those movies you just love sitting down to and laughing about whenever you get the chance.

So let's review it, shall we?

Synopsis Saturday: Crisis on Earth-X

"Oh you've GOT to be kidding me."

Hello everyone!

As promised back on Tuesday, here's my contribution to all the different reviews rolling around online about this week's MASSIVE, four-episode cross-over event that the CW gave to the fans with a little help from DC.

Then again, the mothership, aka Arrow, has probably been aiming for this kind of thing since its premiere six years ago.

Boy, was it action-packed!

Also at times fluffy, adorable, hilarious, OMG-inspiring, and above all uncontrollably fun.

I'm sure this has been said many times before and at different spots, but when it comes to working together and bringing a show-stopper to their audience, the cast and crew of each of the four shows (Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl) really bring their A-game to make sure no nook and cranny is left unexplored.

Of course only Americans would come up with the idea of Nazis for enemies #1, but oh well.

Crisis on Earth-X, here we go!

Tome Thursday: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

Hello everyone!

After a long while I'm back with another Rick Riordan appreciation, er, blog post. The last one I posted was roughly in summer last year when I reviewed the first of his Trials of Apollo series (which reminds me that I should probably review his second one in that trilogy soon), but then I kind of fell off the Riordan map, even though I continued reading his books.

Namely, I was taken in by this Norse mythology series the author launched.

It's title is, as you can see on top of this blog post: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.

Sounds familiar?

You're right. There's another Chase running around Riordan's books, and her name is Annabeth, aka Wise Girl, aka Percy Jackson's girlfriend.

Magnus and Annabeth are cousins, and that DOES come into play in the books. Mostly though it just adds to the hilarity of all the situations these kids find themselves in, including but not limited to saving the world, often twice. Who's counting?

So below, you'll find a record-sharp recap of the entire trilogy. And all this while I'm reading Dan Brown's new novel, Origin!
