Talkie Tuesday: The Battle of the Five Armies

"In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit ..."

Hello everyone!

And welcome to the conclusion of the epic prequel trilogy Peter Jackson served us with in true George Lucas style.

I mean, usually you'd film the first movies first, chronologically, then continue on with the story to the end that the author's written, right?

Well, like I said, USUALLY.

But both Lucas and Jackson ended up filming the conclusions FIRST, before circling back to the beginnings (I'm not looking at the Sequels in any way, shape or form at this time).

So without further ado and more chatter from me, let's check right back in, because last time we left a royally pissed-off dragon heading straight for some unsuspecting, vulnerable and squishy humans to deal with them.

Smaug may suck at interior decorating, but he sure does know how to deliver death and destruction in The Battle of the Five Armies.

Talkie Tuesday: The Desolation of Smaug

"In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit ..."

Hello everyone!

And welcome to the second part of our own incredible journey through Middle-Earth via the movies that have been released over the years.

Was I partly inspired to rewatch these because of how dismally I'm disappointed with Rings of Power?

Possibly.

In any event, I promised you all six of Peter Jackson's masterpieces, and so here we are with number two of the saga.

As you can probably tell, I'm really fond of doing things chronologically if I possibly can, so that's why we're starting with The Hobbit rather than with the trilogy that Jackson made first.

So without further ado, let's jump right back into it, and check out what our Dwarves have been up to, in The Desolation of Smaug.

Talkie Tuesday: Spider-Man No Way Home

"With great power there must also come great responsibility."

Hello everyone!

Did you think I was done with Marvel?

I did too!

Especially since I haven't been overly impressed with the MCU's version of Spider-Man thus far, which I haven't kept a secret.

Listen, Tom Holland is great, I'm sure he is - but somehow the whole origins story when it's a teenager isn't something I go in for anymore, not at this point at least. Maybe it's because I don't feel like it? Or maybe it's just because a lot of it happens in a high school.

And I'm so over high school right now haha.

HOWEVER, that doesn't hold true for this last in the trilogy.

Because DAYUM, okay, everyone was correct! Everyone was definitely right about this one. So now you better make sure we can swing with our netting and communicate with Nick Fury.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is coming to your living room next.

The Hound of the Baskervilles (Booktober)

"The footprints of a gigantic hound ..."

Well, if we're talking Victorian London, foggy streets, and potential murder mysteries, we really can't go through Booktober without at least saying hello to one of the world's most famous detectives. Sherlock Holmes is and will probably always remain a fan favourite, no matter who portrays him in any iteration. And of course, the famous Hound of the Baskervilles is one of those books you need to read with your light on if your nerves are a little more relaxed, or maybe even in daylight.

Just in case, you know, a glowing dog with red eyes comes at you all of a sudden.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson had been sharpening their detective skills deducing the characteristics of the man whose walking stick is in their possession, when the owner arrives greatly in need of their help. Dr Watson is dispatched by Holmes to the desolate moorland of Devon. He learns about the ancient myth of the Baskerville Hound, and as he uncovers the malevolent fury that lay behind Baskerville's death, he comes perilously close to meeting his own ...

Talkie Tuesday: The Grinch

"You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch ..."

Hello everyone!

So alright, this isn't a movie you'd expect in February.

And contrary to popular belief, I'm not really going to be watching Christmas movies now, either. This one is sort of an anomaly.

More or less.

I honestly wasn't even going to watch it this season, but I was bored out of my mind this Sunday afternoon, I'd already tried my hand with the new Robin Hood take (review forthcoming) and I was in need of some Cumberbatch pick-me-up.

I might have done better had I chosen Sherlock.

But alas, my choice for Sunday afternoon was not, in fact, the famous sleuth.

So without much more further ado, let's go see what's making everyone green.

The Grinch, of course.

Talkie Tuesday: Doctor Strange

"It's not about you."

Hello everyone!

Finally, everything seems to be settled enough so that I can write up a blog post on the day it's supposed to be written. I feel so accomplished, haha!

Luckily, I seem to have found a knack for managing my time a little bit better. It's amazing how much the house of cards can come down all around you when you stop paying attention for even the slightest moment, and then once that happens EVERYTHING follows right along that track, no questions asked.

Lists are my new favourite thing and my best friends. I kid you not.

Which is truly sad, considering the fact that I used to make them but then fell out of the habit ... and now I'm back in the saddle, so to speak! But I'm rambling like a teenager out on her first date so I might as well get to the point.

This past weekend, I finally, FINALLY sat down to watch Doctor Strange, and I say 'finally' with a note of annoyance at myself. I don't usually dawdle so much with Cumberbatch's movies.

Talkie Tuesday: The Final Problem

"The Game is afoot."

Hello everyone!

Well. We've made it.

And contrary to what I generally feel when a show season ends, I'm not entirely certain what to make of this particular one.

This weekend saw the end of season four in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, but fans all around the globe are pretty much crying out, either in confusion, shock, or just point-blank outrage.

As a wise individual once said: "I feel a disturbance in the Force."

Fortunately, we can always go back and watch the first two seasons (and three, three was okay-ish, as well) if we want to go back to Sherlock's glory days. Unfortunately, despite previous statements that Benedict Cumberbatch is contracted for a fifth season, this has now been pulled and in its place was said that, while a fifth season has been plotted, Gatis and Moffat aren't sure if they'll produce it.

On that note, let's dive into this Sherlock recap, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: The Lying Detective

"The Game is afoot."

Hello everyone!

I'm back after yesterday's rather exclamation-filled watching of the second episode in the current Sherlock season.

Now, I'll admit, I tend to be quite vocal when I watch the shows I like - mainly because my reactions are just that explosive on more than one occasion, but also because I'm alone when I watch this. Occasionally, I do watch things with my friends - like, say Sherlock specials - but that being said, more often than not it's just me and my poor, over abused laptop.

If this thing could speak ...

It would probably complain how much I keep talking to it. But then, I wouldn't NEED to if the shows I watched wouldn't be bad for my blood pressure.

Sherlock, of course, being the rather prime example, seeing as there is literally no one on this planet Earth who can annoy people quite so much as the good detective from Baker Street.

Talkie Tuesday: The Six Thatchers

"The Game is on."

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year!

I hope that you've all celebrated with your loved ones and had an amazing time during the longest night between 2016 and 2017. I'll admit mine was spent very lazily, at home, watching the Police Academy movie marathon and going to bed before one o'clock.

I know, I'm hopeless.

BUT.

That being said, with 2017 now firmly in our midst, the new series, and new seasons are finally beginning!

I'm looking at you, Shadowhunters, but before I even nip at that particular episode (because I still have to watch it) I'm going to go into a review of what is quite possibly the most anticipated show besides Game of Thrones and probably Walking Dead.

Ladies and gentlemen, our favourite detective from Baker Street is back!

Saturday Snippet: Sherlock!

Hello everyone!

STOP THE TRAFFIC. STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING. STOP EVERYTHING.

Sherlock season 4 just got a release date!

That's right ladies and gentlemen, January 2017 is the month when our favourite sleuth will come back to 221B Baker Street and entertain us once again with his marvelous deductions!

So wake me up when it's January, okay? 'Kay.

Talkie Tuesday: The Abominable Bride

"If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a festive and cozy get-together with the people you care about the most, and started off this calendar year with a bang - I know I did. Not so much the bang as it was the previous part, as I was lucky enough to spend my New Year's Eve with very good friends who make everything a whole lot less problematic and seem much brighter than it sometimes is. And then I got to go home to my family, which, of course, is even better.

To top it off, the first weekend of this new year was spent in the most delightful way imaginable (I may be chaneling my inner Galadriel here, but An Unexpected Journey was on TV this Sunday night, blame it on that): watching the Sherlock special, The Abominable Bride, surrounded by a bunch of Sherlockians and Sherlock-enthusiasts!

Really, life just doesn't get any better than that.

Talkie Tuesday: The Imitation Game

"We're going to break an unbreakable Nazi code and win the war."

Hello everyone!

So last week, I talked about The Theory of Everything, because I seemed to have known, instinctively, that the particular biopic wouldn't hold a candle to the one I'm talking about in this blog post.

Don't get me wrong.

I admire Eddie Redmayne for what he did with the role he was given and the Oscar was absolutely deserving. But I've been a Benedict Cumberbatch fan for quite some time now I think; I definitely consider myself part of the CumberCollective!

And so when the first teaser image of The Imitation Game was released, I practically jumped around pumping the air with my fists in glee. Because, not only was it Cumberbatch, BUT it was about a topic I'm hugely interested in despite the political debates it can spawn. AND on top of it all, it's about the Enigma!

Talkie Tuesday: The Theory of Everything

Hello everyone!

Back to my movies from the seaside section (this could probably be its own subtitle, I think ...), since I'm done with immediate movies at least for this week. I still have plans to watch Insurgent at some point (hopefully next week? Maybe?), but I'm defintiely distracted all around with the shows that are now in full swing and giving anything out of a movie cinema a run for their money.

The Theory of Everything wasn't a movie I would have originally wanted to watch, because unlike some people, Eddie Redmayne isn't exactly one of my favourite actors. Well, at least not yet, maybe he'll get there, you know?

But because I was going to watch The Imitation Game eventually, and because the Oscar race this year had been pretty much between Redmayne and Cumberbatch, I thought, why not? It could be educational and fun. Stephen Hawking is a living legend, after all.

So, here we go.

Saturday Snippet: Bookshelf Tour, part 2

Hello everyone!

I may be a little trippy at the moment. Not because I've drank anything, or otherwise consumed anything of the illegal sort of variety - but mostly because staring at translation stuff and then on top of it all reading through Alice Clayton's Cocktail book series is seriously something to make your mind spin.

Ahem.

But I'm back with the second round of my bookshelf tour! If you've fallen behind, never fear, there'll be a link at the bottom of the post to the previous part.
