Talkie Tuesday: Wonder Woman 1984

In this week's movie blog post, we return to the land of superheroes, impossible magic ... and fanny packs.

 

That's right people, we're going to the 80s!

 

Now obviously, people who've actually lived through the decade probably have a different view on what this movie showed, but at the same time you have to give some credit where credit's due: they took what people PERCEIVE the 80s were and made it funny, or as funny as they could possibly make it in that moment.

 

And well, most of the time it worked!

 

Plus I mean, there's just something about 80s fashion that will either make you laugh or cry your eyes out at the absolute disaster on screen.

 

Add in Perdro Pascal in a blonde wig and you probably know what movie I'm talking about here.

 

Look to the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane!

 

Nope. It's Wonder Woman 1984.

Tome Thursday: Queen Move

Hello everyone!

This week on 'which book did she pick up from her TBR pile' we go along to a very random one I saw because I subscribe to this newsletter from a different author.

Yeah, sometimes that's how it happens!

I signed up for the Caldwell Courier Journal by J. R. Ward when she first announced it, and one of the sections she does there is reading, or a book club of some sort, which was how I stumbled over tonight's book of choice.

I'd never, up until this point, read anything by Kennedy Ryan, which is a shame since I really like her writing style from what I've seen so far. 

Just means I'll be picking up more books by her in the future!

For tonight, however, let+s just focus on the one I ended up reading through pretty much in one sitting. Occasionally, I know what's best for me and make sure that I don't overdo it, but sometimes I also can't help myself.

Queen Move was one of those that grabs you and doesn't let go easily.

Term Limits (Booktober)

Probably one of my favourite books of all time, though I admit it's an acquired taste. There is A LOT of politics in this one, it's based directly off the political ups and downs in Washington, DC, but Vince Flynn also brings a certain degree of realism into his writing whenever there are any Special Ops forces in his books, so. Term Limits doesn't have Mitch Rapp - but even without Ironman, the retired SEALs make up for it.

If you want to wind down the murky streets by the Potomac river, you don't have to go any further than this book!

Dan Brown is one of those authors that is easy to read, his books are super quick to run through, and although they sometimes read like a travelogue ... that doesn't mean they aren't fun! Plus, Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon is something you NEED to see. My book pick from his lineup, however, is one that didn't make it on screen. The Lost Symbol kind of has middle child syndrome in the Langdon series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, probably because it isn't as famous as the others. It also happens in Washington, which I found kind of exciting.

So grab hold of your Mickey Mouse wrist watches, and tag along! Professor Langdon is waiting.

Tome Thursday: Term Limits

Hello everyone!

Summer is FINALLY here!

It's slated to get even hotter here than it is right now, and let me tell you, as much as this means a little bit of ingenuity with regards to being on the computer in a room that resembles a sauna without AC running, it's high time. We've had a rough going of it in May when we'd normally already be jamming in our daisy dukes, but May went on holiday and stuck us with a prolonged April instead.

So now, with June in the picture, it's FINALLY WARM.

I had such a fun time the other day when I went into town (on foot) and ended up perspiring because it was hot, and not because I was wearing too many layers to battle the cold outside and then melting once I got into an over-warm shop.

With high temperatures also come high stakes, at least in books if nothing else, and tonight is definitely no exception, but rather the norm for this rule!

Vince Flynn is probably one of my all-time favourite suspense authors, and I really need to sit down and read through his entire Mitch Rapp book series. But since I'm probably going to leave that one for the summer holidays, I picked something else for tonight.

A stand-alone of his, called Term Limits.

Talkie Tuesday: Scandal (season 1)

Hello everyone!

So. 

Last time I blogged was for the finale of the Game of Thrones sixth season, and then of course I had it all planned how I was going to do a blog post on Thursday about a Sarah J. Maas book ... but then life happened and got in the way.

I took some time for a short vacation that was pretty impromptu, I'll give you that, and I have no internet connection when I AM down at the seaside, which means I sort of de-tox.

Back in civilization, however, means back to blogging!

One of my best friends has spent the past, oh I don't even know how long trying to convince me that I absolutely HAVE TO start watching Scandal. I had heard of the show before (with the awards it was picking up, I would have to be blind and deaf not to) but I didn't think it was something I'd get into, nor did I like the characters at first glance. First glance being randomly through pictures and one time when I caught the tail end of an episode on television.

That all changed during vacation.
