Talkie Tuesday: A Recap

"TU-DUM!"

Hello everyone! I'm sort of cheating a little bit this week but, it's been a busy weekend what with summer FINALLY hitting us as well, so we've been out socializing, and then there's been other things happening that I'm just going to leave proof of down below.

You know, from Trooping the Colour to Netflix's TUDUM event in Brazil, this is a full on workday of entertainment put together! Honorary mention also goes to The Order of the Garter.

Enjoy.

Talkie Tuesday: Death on the Nile

"It takes two."

Hello everyone!

We return to the world of old Hollywood glamour, murder mysteries, and great mustaches.

No, seriously, we do.

You may have noticed that this blog features works by Agatha Christie rather often, and that's on purpose given that I thoroughly enjoy anything and everything that woman has ever written.

So when there are adaptations, you can bet I'll be somewhere close, or at least not far behind!

I'm a sucker for a good murder mystery, okay?

That said, I wasn't that much of a sucker for Kenneth Branagh's remake of Murder on the Orient Express, but I wanted to give this sequel to it a go because ... well, I'm a glutton for punishment.

And it wasn't even TOO bad, overall, if not for the blasted ending.

Hold on to your hats, we're taking a cruise through Egypt in Death on the Nile!

Talkie Tuesday: Red Notice

"Always appreciate a quality double-cross."

Hello everyone!

This is it. We made it.

The last non-Christmas blog post for this calendar year, as starting this Thursday we're heading straight into that extravaganza as soon as we can manage it!

Honestly, I'm a little bit excited, because I tend to enjoy the holiday related stuff I post on my blog over the month of December, and there's got to be some holly jolly on here, right? After all, there's so much other stuff going on it isn't even funny anymore.

So before we unveil what the first holiday-themed book is going to be, let's have one last look back at what people are saying was probably a fun movie for the most part.

And I mean, it was.

But I think my expectations were too high because I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I would, in the end.

So let's roll in with Red Notice and see what it's about, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: Wonder Woman 1984

"Be careful what you wish for."

Hello everyone!

In this week's movie blog post, we return to the land of superheroes, impossible magic ... and fanny packs.

That's right people, we're going to the 80s!

Now obviously, people who've actually lived through the decade probably have a different view on what this movie showed, but at the same time you have to give some credit where credit's due: they took what people PERCEIVE the 80s were and made it funny, or as funny as they could possibly make it in that moment.

And well, most of the time it worked!

Plus I mean, there's just something about 80s fashion that will either make you laugh or cry your eyes out at the absolute disaster on screen.

Add in Perdro Pascal in a blonde wig and you probably know what movie I'm talking about here.

Look to the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane!

Nope. It's Wonder Woman 1984.

Death on the Nile (Booktober)

"Gott im Himmel! What is there now?"

With the new movie coming out (and by the looks of the trailer it might even be good) it's time to take a look at one of Agatha Christie's beloved mysteries again. Let's take a ride down the Nile alongside the egg-head-shaped detective who attracts problems like a magnet. And if you have the stomach for it, let's investigate the murder of a beautiful young woman - a crime of passion if there ever was one. Because when tempers run hot under the Egyptian sun, what else can you expect?

The tranquility of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful. A girl who had everything ... until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalls an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: "I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger." Yet in this exotic setting nothing is ever quite what it seems ...

Tome Thursday: Wonder Woman Warbringer

Hello everyone!

For my book review this week I'm going back to basics with DC.

Now, for those of you who may not know me all that well, let me tell you that I frankly don't care too much about all this DC vs Marvel debate or hashtags or whatever.

I can understand that there's some rivalry going on, because, well, two competing comic book houses? Duh. It makes sense even to me. But I'm not one of those people who say YOU CAN'T GO FOR DC IF YOU'RE A MARVEL FAN THAT'S BETRAYAL. Or vice versa.

Me, I watch/read about the heroes I like. Whether they were created by Marvel or by DC means precious little, although I'll also freely admit I kind of like the tone of MCU better than of the DCEU at the moment.

That being said, however, Wonder Woman has become one of my favourites, partly thanks to Gal Gadot's amazing performancein the movie.

Which is why this week's book is all about the Warbringer.

Talkie Tuesday: Wonder Woman

"I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves."

Hello everyone!

So after that impromptu break which I took without announcing anything, I figured I might as well come back with a big bang. Right? Right.

There I was, minding my own business at the seaside, when I stumbled upon Wonder Woman quite by accident. As in, I had known there was a movie being made and that it was just about to drop in theatres by the time I hightailed it to the coast, but I wasn't paying too much attention to the actual dates.

And here and now, let me tell you: boy, am I glad I paid attention later!

DC has sort of been lagging behind Marvel in terms of their superhero movies, only just coming into their own with Man of Steel and the following Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (which a lot of people complained about and I, personally, only really checked the ending of), but they now seem to be on the right track.

Let's begin our journey then, shall we? With the one, the only, Wonder Woman.
