Welcome back to ... well, another Bollywood extravaganza, really.

 

I'm starting to slowly accumulate these as I make my way through various different movie careers for actors I genuinely enjoy watching on screen (either because of talent or because - welp, we shallow like that - they're just drop-dead-gorgeous).

 

I've had this one on the list for QUITE some time, wanting to start with it because it's the Hindi introduction of probably my favourite Bollywood actress thus far, so of course I was going to watch it.

 

Then I got sidetracked.

 

Then things happened.

 

And then finally, this weekend, I sat down and powered through it!

 

So get out those bell-bottoms, because we're time-traveling back to when they were first popular in Om Shanti Om.

Talkie Tuesday: Magical Christmas Ornaments

Hello everyone!

December is finally, officially, here, and that means that most of the regular TV shows are airing their midseason finales and taking a break over the upcoming holidays. 

This also means that the air turns freezingly cold and I need to make sure I start my car every once in a while if I'm not planning big drives anywhere, but equally it means some really cool bed linen is coming into our stores.

Okay I'm totally rambling.

What it MEANS is Christmas is just around the corner and I can now officially break out all those Christmas stories I've been hoarding up on. And the movies! I've decided my December blogs will be ALL about Christmas so if there are any Grinches or Scrooges out there you might as well come back in January.

So to start us off in style, I dug up Hallmark channel's movie list and watched Magical Christmas Ornaments.

Talkie Tuesday: King Arthur Legend of the Sword

Hello everyone!

It's another Tuesday and time for another movie review. They just keep on coming, don't they? I mean, regardless of the fact that it's been a while now since I've felt the need to absolutely HAVE to see a movie so I can review it, since ... I have a bunch of them still waiting to go. 

Yeah.

But anyway, this current one I'll be doing came as a recommendation from a very good friend of mine. I never intended to watch it - Guy Ritchie is one of those directors I have a love-hate relationship with. And by this, I mean that I genuinely love the stories he usually tries to sell on the big screen, but I hate the adaptations.

For instance, the Sherlock movies were so not my cup of tea. 

Which was why when I first saw the trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, I thought to myself - this looks amazing, but it has Jude Law in there and some weird magic and King Arthur looks wonky ... it has to be Ritchie.

Let me tell you, however - my friend convinced me. And I'm so glad she did.

Talkie Tuesday: Independence Day Resurgence

Hello everyone!

This Tuesday I'm finally back with a regular movie review, and I picked a slightly older one for this post, although 'older' is certainly a subjective term. 

In better words, it just isn't recent, and that's that.

But of course once the first trailers started coming in and I even realized there would be a sequel to the highly amusing and pretty awesome Independence Day where I laugh, continuously, whenever Will Smith has to drag the dread-lock alien across the desert after welcoming it to Earth, I was on the edge of my seat.

Especially as it was announced old favourites would be making a comeback to the big screen, although sadly sans Smith. I can't remember what the reasons for his decline were at the time, but we WOULD get his son, at least. Movie-wise that is.

So how about I stop jabbering and start talking about Independence Day: Resurgence instead?

Saturday Snippet: Movies I Never Finished

Hello everyone!

Every once in a while, I run into something that I would call a movie wall - that is, a proverbial wall in the form of a movie I just can't watch. So I thought I'd share a few tonight!

Queen of the Desert - the trailer for this one looked SO amazing and I was looking forward to it! But then I started watching ... and not only does Nicole Kidman not have what it takes to play an explorer daughter anymore, but I wanted to fall asleep forty minutes in. Fast-forwarding didn't help, either.

Noah - I actually don't know why I didn't finish this one. I think I got distracted by something and never got back to it. I might try it again.

Wolf of Wall Street - if I wanted to fall asleep with up above, I fell asleep half an hour into this movie. I don't get the hype, I really don't. 

And on a parting note, I watched the series premiere of the MacGyver revival tonight! Not quite sure about this yet, but ... we will see.

Talkie Tuesday: 88th Academy Awards

"And the Oscar goes to ..."

Hello everyone!

This week, I'm postponing my regular movie review post in favour of the 88th Academy Awards. I was surprised that we actually had, not a live broadcast, but we had a rerun the next day here on one of our stations! 

I do recall that at some point in the past we actually had live broadcasts too, but that started at like, 2 or 3 am and I doubt too many people actually got up in the middle of the night to watch.

As it happened, this rerun started at like 11 pm itself so I honestly didn't bother watching on television - especially since we have this nasty tendency to put in a million commercial, so without those the broadcast is roughly three hours long, but WITH them? Yeah, good luck getting under three and a half hour. With my luck, it would have been four.

I watched it online, which was a whole lot more elegant, all things considered.

Talkie Tuesday: Fantastic Four

"It's pretty fantastic."

Hello everyone!

It's movie time once again, and tonight I'm going to talk about a movie that I didn't love nor did I hate, but I was entertained enough by it that I watched it through to the end and didn't want to fall asleep. 

The movie I'm talking about is Fantastic Four, although not the older versions with Ioan Gruffud and Jessica Alba (which, I will admit, I watched and actually really enjoyed back in the day), but the new, remade thing with Miles Teller and Kate Mara in the titular characters of Reed and Sue, although we do see a number of other actors make their way across the screen.

I will admit that I wanted to see what they'd done with the remake, because if I remember right the first two movies were okay-ish, but didn't bring much to the table for a third, so this is supposed to be a revival of sorts, right?

I do think there's talk of a sequel, and it did a good enough job to merit it, I suppose.

Talkie Tuesday: Walking on Sunshine

Hello everyone!

So this blog post is going to be about a blast from the past, so to speak, considering that I should have blogged about this movie ... oh, ages and a number of blog posts ago. To be perfectly honest, I think I actually watched it sometime BEFORE summer started officially (and unofficially) so really, why did it take me so long?? 

Well, for starters, I got into watching the Tudors at the time (I totally blame you, Maegan, yes, you), and then I was also watching other TV shows trying to catch up (ugh, I still need to see Teen Wolf season 5 to the end ... maybe this week when the other shows haven't started yet), and so this movie review just sort of sat there, in the back of my mind, knowing it needed to be done.

Then I went and forgot about it after returning from vacation with all the goodies, but hey, I FINALLY got to the point where I'm like, you know what? Let's do this.

I'm talking about the Mamma Mia!-inspired Walking on Sunshine.

Saturday Snippet

Hello everyone!

So getting back into the swing of things here after vacation, I really couldn't help myself and drove one town over to a big shopping center where I could indulge in browsing through a LOT of movie DVDs. I'm a little bit of a hoarder in these cases, really, but I'm also conscious of the fact that spending big money on this stuff won't win me any favours anywhere (but let's not talk about The Hobbit EEs, kay? Kay).

What I happened to stumble upon was a bit of a sale where you can pretty much purchase between five or six DVDs without spending too much money, or doing the math, you can get these for a price of one and a half of the usual, which is pretty nifty for someone like me.

You can see I splurged a bit, because really, handsome men deserve to be watched on the big screen. Also, the Immortals DVD was the last one, so lucky me!

Additionally, I also got the King's Speech and Draft Day, and the Jason Statham movie is titled Blitz.

Talkie Tuesday: Kingsman - The Secret Service

Hello everyone!

I'm finally back with the good old regular blog system, and since it's Tuesday it's time for me to talk about a movie, but first I figure I should probably tell you how I ended up watching it.

As several times before, my friends and I got together for a movie night, but originally, our choices didn't include the final thing. We were actually going to watch Expendables, but my friend's boyfriend changed the options right before that happened. So then he suggested Lucy, and we all nodded, and he said Kingsman, and my first comment (because my mouth sometimes runs away from my head) was 'OMG YES THAT MOVIE IS AMAZING!' which sealed the deal, or that's how I saw it.

Not one hundred percent sure all my friends are happy with me about that particular decision at the moment, haha, but I mean, what's done is done, right? In any event, Kingsman was the movie we ended up watching together, and honestly? In my opinion, it delivered.

Talkie Tuesday: The Best of Me

Hello everyone!

So, hi, this is your friendly neighbourhood blogger, and from time to time she feels like destroying herself with Nicholas Sparks. Yup, that's about right. See, we all know that Mr. Sparks is a master of writing tragedy into his romance novels (let's just look at The Notebook or Message in a Bottle, shall we?), and I honestly don't know why I even read his books and/or watch his movie adaptations, but there you have it, apparently I need to kill myself emotionally from time to time. I think people might call me certifiable for this - I know my sister probably does, but what can you do? 

For some reason, that's just something I feel like doing, and most recently, I've been tracking his newer works; I'm gearing up to read The Longest Ride before it hits theatres as a movie adaptation, but first, I went for The Best of Me. Sad fact: the movie should have originally featured Paul Walker in the main male role, but unfortunately, the role had to be recast after the actor's passing, and it went to James Marsden (which, all in all, wasn't such a bad choice, because he's quite good to look at too! Ahem).

Talkie Tuesday: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Cowabunga!

Er, hello everyone! Happy New Year! 

I hope you all said goodbye to 2014 properly and welcomed 2015 with a bang! I had a fairly slow New Year's Eve and quite enjoyed it after the last couple of years of always partying it up till dawn. So mostly it was about getting my batteries all stocked up on energy again so I can kick the year off with some more blog posts.

And to start it off, it would probably be a good idea to say that, no, I don't really meet and greet people with 'Cowabunga'. It's just the one thing I can actually, vividly remember from when I first watched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (from now on TMNT, because my brain is trying to mess with me whenever I spell this!) back when it was still just a cartoon. I didn't watch it often, but I do remember them running around, following their rat-pack leader, and saving the day. Curiously enough I have no memory of April O'Neill ... but then I was a kid back then. And in honour of my kiddie memories, I decided to see what the 2014 movie remake was all about.

First Blog

Hi everyone!

A lot of people seem to be writing blogs these days, so I decided I'd give it a go, too. I've mostly seen them use Blogger.com, so it seemed like a natural choice to try out, and so far all I can say are positive things. It really is as easy as everyone says it is!

Unfortunately, if you're looking for make-up reviews or 'a day in the life of' posts, this isn't the right place for you. I'm the kind of girl who doesn't really do much in terms of make-up, anyway. Less is more! What you'll find here will mostly be reviews on movies I've seen, books I've read (or am reading) and reviews of TV shows I'm currently watching. I do A LOT of this, so I decided, why not share my thoughts about it? I comment as I go along, anyway.

To make things a bit more organized, and since I don't have the time to blog every day, this blog will currently be split into three sections: Talkie Tuesday, where you'll find movie reviews (or talking picture reviews, if you like!), Tome Thursday, where I'll talk about the books I've read, and Synopsis Saturday, when I'll sit down to give brief overviews of the shows that I watched over the week.

Basically, these last will probably be the most diverse, as I watch quite a lot of shows (juggling them around my daily schedule), but I'll get into details this Saturday! For now, I think this intro is getting long enough. Expect to see the first movie review sometime tonight!
