Tome Thursday: Raiventon

 

Hello everyone!

 

I return to one of the best random finds I've stumbled onto using BookSirens, and that's saying something given how many books I tend to pick up and go through.

 

But this series was special from the minute I reached for it.

 

I really don't even know what it is about it, the combination of romance and mystery, maybe, or the writing style, but it hooked me all the way through and now I can't wait to continue with the third one, knowing there's more to come.

 

My excitement when I saw just which one is releasing in the summer was palpable, let me tell you!

 

But first, we have to recap and review the second book, since, you know, you can't just skip steps, not in a series that's so interconnected as this one.

 

Sarah Westill was on to something when she started writing her Guardians of Sziveria.

 

And her second book continues proving it more and more.

Tome Thursday: Wintersfall

 

Hello everyone!

 

The next installment in our book blogs this year is another BookSirens edition, because ... well, because.

 

I was actually on a time crunch with this one because for some reason it slipped through the cracks for me and I ended up needing to hustle to finish it so that I could deliver by the deadline.

 

I've sort of made myself a promise to read faster now LOL.

 

Anyway, I was intrigued by the story synopsis and initially thought it was just going to be one of those easy, summery romance reads with maybe a sprinkling of some other international spy agency stuff thrown in the mix.

 

Of course I couldn't have been more wrong and THAT is something, honestly!

 

I very rarely get surprised by books these days but this one sure did, and Sarah Westill knew exactly what she was doing when she wrote it if you ask me.

 

Because not only does it actually have a concrete plot, it's also got intrigue and mystery for days, and there's more to it than meets the eye!

 

 So here we go, enter Wintersfall.

 

Talkie Tuesday: The Spy Who Dumped Me

Hello everyone!

Question: what do you watch when you're bored out of your head, you don't feel like really thinking hard through whatever it is you'll be watching, and you REALLY don't feel like pulling a brain muscle trying to figure it out?  

Well, if you're currently waiting for the Outlander season four finale, then you'll probably pick up something that has Sam Heughan in it.

And since it's kind of the wrong time for A Princess for Christmas (one of the more adorable things I'd watched with Sam in it), you go for something a little more up-to-date.

And then you see photos of Sam in a tux holding a gun up in a very Bond-like position.

Why hello there, handsome!

The Spy Who Dumped Me is sort of a mix-and-mash of a lot of other spy movies, incorporating all the more insane ideas (not to mention the absurd ones) and making it all seem like a lark in comparison to, say, Bond or Bourne.

Talkie Tuesday: Inferno

Hello everyone!

Since Sherlock has now finished, and Game of Thrones hasn't begun yet for me to do my weekly blogs with recaps of it, I'm back to reviewing movies, as per usual. 

Now, I do have quite a backlog it would seem, considering the fact that I keep finding other stuff to write about, which sometimes might feel counter-productive, but believe me, with the amount of things I watch just to relax, it's not actually THAT far-fetched I don't think.

Anyway.

I wanted to watch this movie pretty much as soon as it was announced they were filming it, mostly because I have, in fact, enjoyed reading Dan Brown's books with Robert Langdon as the primary character. Also, I've enjoyed watching Tom Hanks on screen, making sure everybody else around him and those watching wonder about what he was talking about half the time.

And while Inferno sounds like something straight out of Hell, it's actually, in my opinion, a tourist guide to Florence.

Talkie Tuesday: London Has Fallen

"Bullet-proof, not politician-proof!"

Hello everyone!

I'm finally fully back from vacation, this including not having a vacation mind anymore or being almost literally tied up with washing, drying, folding and cleaning in general. 

You know how things go when you've been away from home for a while.

So now that I'm back in business, it's time to pick up the slack after three weeks of virtually no posts from me and not even Tweets, with a movie recap and review! And of course, I wouldn't be me if I hadn't picked something that entertained me even before I went on my actual vacation, because honestly, there's nothing better than a good action movie.

Even if action is pretty much all you get in it.

But there you have it, I was a big fan, and still am, of Olympus Has Fallen, and so when a sequel was announced and the first trailer came out, I was stoked. When I finally got my hands on a copy, I truly was enthusiastic to see just what the screenwriters and creative minds behind it had cooked up.

I guess, though, that it's kind of difficult to follow the first film high if you're not James Bond.

Talkie Tuesday: The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

"How's THAT for entertainment?"

Hello everyone!

This movie review should have been posted before I posted the one for The Abominable Bride, but my Sherlock enthusiasm got the best of me even though the movie night I spent with my friends watching a trio of agents run around the screen (sometimes like chickens with their heads cut off) was also as enjoyable as the latter one. 

Not to mention, I had been DYING to see the movie.

I mean, it's a no brainer here that The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was on my list because of the assembled cast, though most notably the principle male leads, namely Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.

Okay, yes, I may have a bit of a crush problem.

I don't deny it!

But take a good, long look at those two and tell me you wouldn't have the same one. It's not like they're two sacks of potatoes, after all.

And the movie, of course, was really good.

Talkie Tuesday: Kingsman - The Secret Service

Hello everyone!

I'm finally back with the good old regular blog system, and since it's Tuesday it's time for me to talk about a movie, but first I figure I should probably tell you how I ended up watching it.

As several times before, my friends and I got together for a movie night, but originally, our choices didn't include the final thing. We were actually going to watch Expendables, but my friend's boyfriend changed the options right before that happened. So then he suggested Lucy, and we all nodded, and he said Kingsman, and my first comment (because my mouth sometimes runs away from my head) was 'OMG YES THAT MOVIE IS AMAZING!' which sealed the deal, or that's how I saw it.

Not one hundred percent sure all my friends are happy with me about that particular decision at the moment, haha, but I mean, what's done is done, right? In any event, Kingsman was the movie we ended up watching together, and honestly? In my opinion, it delivered.
