Tome Thursday: Cold War, pt 2

And here we are as February draws to a close, with the second half of a review that we began last week.

 

Have you enjoyed the book? I hope you have!

 

See here's the thing, as far as I can understand it: it was originally published as a duology but then edited and re-published as one single book written in two parts, which actually works in its favour, come to think of it.

 

Ms Andrews has released an actual duology earlier this year, but the problem there was that the second book certainly suffered from the fact that it was second.

 

It would have maybe been better if it had also been done like this one in the past.

 

But I don't claim to be an expert and certainly not on publishing methods, nor writing! In any event, I enjoy Ms Andrews' writing regardless, and so here we are.

 

Let's head back into the world of figure skating for another week, shall we?

 

Cold War is up, for a second time - and has nothing whatsoever to do with real life situations right now.

 

Tome Thursday: Cold War, pt 1

 

Hello everyone!

 

Now I'm not reviewing this particular book - or part one of the book - because of anything that's happened at this year's Winter Olympics, because I haven't really been paying attention to the games.

 

Well, at least to the ice skating portion of it. I did watch the ski jumping, or some of it.

 

But for the rest I really haven't even lost sleep over what has or has not gone down, so don't mistake this for anything other but me enjoying a good book.

 

See it's come to my attention that, despite the fact I say I've read most of Keira Andrews' published works, I actually haven't.

 

There's a BUNCH of them I still need to either pick up or finish, and it's just so much fun to explore, I'll be honest with you guys! Because Ms Andrews tends to write some of the best contemporary fiction I've had the privilege to read.

 

Tonight's book, or the first part of it really, is no exception, so why don't we stop dropping hints and whatnot and simply get right into it?

 

It's titled Cold War, and you'll figure out the reasons VERY quickly!

 

Talkie Tuesday: Atomic Blonde

Hello everyone!

 

This week's choice of movie is heavily influenced by the fact that my sister was home for the weekend and ended up watching it on television in my room.

 

Now, usually, I'd just do my own thing on the computer while she was at it, but I got sucked into the story, and then some.

 

I mean, it IS Charlize Theron though.

 

The woman looks too good to be true.

 

I want whatever she's having.

 

And while I'm at it, let me tell you all about the little movie she did back in 2017 (geez, is it almost 5 years ago already?) that, apparently, also has a sequel in development! This is exciting news because the movie is absolutely fantastic.

Convoluted, but fantastic.

It's called Atomic Blonde, and BOY, is it atomic!

Talkie Tuesday: Bridge of Spies

"Every person matters."

Hello everyone!

Back with a movie again this week, although for this one, I picked a film from the middle of my pack (I call it a pack now, I've stocked up on them again!) instead of from the whole backlog of them, mostly because it's one of those you just have to get out there. 

The point here being, however, that it came highly recommended by two very good friends of mine, and they sort of nudged and poked until I gave in and got myself a copy of it.

The movie I'm talking about is Bridge of Spies.

It's exactly what it sounds like, mind you, and it's really right up my alley with what happens in the storyline, so obviously my friends know me well enough by now to suggest stuff they know I'll gobble up and probably not wait too much before I watch it.

However, for some inexplicable reason I have yet to figure out, I got a copy of the movie, then sort of let it sit there and stew while I mustered energy - or courage - to watch it.

Maybe that was a sign.

Talkie Tuesday: The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

"How's THAT for entertainment?"

Hello everyone!

This movie review should have been posted before I posted the one for The Abominable Bride, but my Sherlock enthusiasm got the best of me even though the movie night I spent with my friends watching a trio of agents run around the screen (sometimes like chickens with their heads cut off) was also as enjoyable as the latter one. 

Not to mention, I had been DYING to see the movie.

I mean, it's a no brainer here that The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was on my list because of the assembled cast, though most notably the principle male leads, namely Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.

Okay, yes, I may have a bit of a crush problem.

I don't deny it!

But take a good, long look at those two and tell me you wouldn't have the same one. It's not like they're two sacks of potatoes, after all.

And the movie, of course, was really good.
