Tome Thursday: Hearts & Crowns Trilogy

 

Hello everyone!

 

I hope your week has been great thus far and hopefully you won't mind that my first words in this blog post are directed to all my friends across the pond.

 

Hurricane Ian was never going to take prisoners, but honestly it sounds as though it might have HOPEFULLY been a little less bad than projected and predicted? Or was it even worse? Either way, my thoughts and prayers go to you out there, who prepped and now need to deal with the fallout.

 

I sadly have nothing truly substantial to give as far as that goes, but at the very least good vibes help, or they should somewhat!

 

For us though, it's time to circle back around to the book we'll be reviewing tonight, or well, books really as it's a full trilogy.

 

I'm always excited when I see the word OMNIBUS stamped on a cover anywhere, so this was no exception. I'd never read anything by Natalie Murray before so I was also just excited to find another author I could potentially really enjoy.

 

So without further ado, let's have a look at the Hearts & Crowns trilogy omnibus, shall we? Don't forget to hold tight to that precious gem as we travel through time.

 

Tome Thursday: The Autobiography of Henry VIII

Hello everyone!

OKAY.

I will admit. This one took me forever. I actually checked on Goodreads and I started reading it in September.

IT'S NOVEMBER NOW, GUYS.

Yeah, I was bad with this. Really, really bad. My only excuse? I kept getting distracted. It's not that the book wasn't interesting or that I was forcing myself to crunch through it. That wasn't the case at all. The problem was that every hundred or two hundred pages, my brain literally wanted to fritz out with all the information and personality complex.

Which was why I always needed a break in between the reading sections, and that was why it took FOREVER to finish this, but I actually made a gameplan and sat down, expressively, to finish reading so that Maegan wouldn't send me over to kingdom come.

She can be a little impatient with her Tudor stuff, so let's get on with the Autobiography of Henry VIII!

Talkie Tuesday: Walking on Sunshine

Hello everyone!

So this blog post is going to be about a blast from the past, so to speak, considering that I should have blogged about this movie ... oh, ages and a number of blog posts ago. To be perfectly honest, I think I actually watched it sometime BEFORE summer started officially (and unofficially) so really, why did it take me so long?? 

Well, for starters, I got into watching the Tudors at the time (I totally blame you, Maegan, yes, you), and then I was also watching other TV shows trying to catch up (ugh, I still need to see Teen Wolf season 5 to the end ... maybe this week when the other shows haven't started yet), and so this movie review just sort of sat there, in the back of my mind, knowing it needed to be done.

Then I went and forgot about it after returning from vacation with all the goodies, but hey, I FINALLY got to the point where I'm like, you know what? Let's do this.

I'm talking about the Mamma Mia!-inspired Walking on Sunshine.

Tome Thursday: Elizabeth of York

Hello everyone!

Back to book reviews, and I've suddenly realized I don't have all that many from the seaside it looks like. What just happened?

I know for a fact that I had taken roughly about forty new titles with me on vacation, but that doesn't mean I managed to read them all, which, I'm pretty sure, will be a surprise to a lot of people who know me, because I'm always reading something. Usually more than one thing at a time.

And now it looks like I still have a mountain to climb!

Shocking, I know.

I blame it on The Lord of the Rings, because I always take it with me on summer vacation and end up usually reading it over the spen of a week, just to keep it flowing and also to keep my mind sane (no dreaming about Rangers or Elves, if I'm careful).

But one of the books I did manage to read was Alison Weir's Elizabeth of York.

Talkie Tuesday: The Tudors (season 4)

Hello everyone!

So instead of doing a recap on something I watched down at the seaside during my vacation, I decided that I should quite probably round up my series of recaps and reviews for the TV show that had everybody buzzing back between 2007 and 2010.

If you've guessed it's the Tudors, you got it right! 

Sadly, I don't have any appropriate reward for that particular guess, except the review which will follow in a little bit after the break in the post. I know it's been a while - probably more than a month, actually, if I think about it right, because I finished watching the last season of the show (this being the fourth one) right before I had to leave for vacation. Since I didn't have any internet on vacation at all, I had to save this and stash it away somewhere so that I wouldn't forget to do it when I got back home.

So now, without further ado, and to make sure Maegan is a happy camper and proud that I've managed to achieve this, let's get on to the review of season four!

Talkie Tuesday: The Tudors (season 3)

Hello everyone!

So here we are again, right back where we seem to always wind up nowadays every once in a while, right? Right. As I promised my girl Maegan, I'm definitely watching through the whole of the Tudors television series, but that does mean I get Tudor-overwhelmed every once in a while, and so I make it a point to watch something else entirely in between two seasons. Which is why Game of Thrones came into play, persay, the previous week ago, and this week it's all about the Royals, which I will hopefully be able to write about next Tuesday!

On another note, I'm definitely packing things up on the computer for my vacation, which is apparently a go, and that means hoarding movies together that I haven't been able to watch yet because, you know, stress and job hunting as well as this binge watching of TV shows has kind of made it impossible. But never fear! I'll come back from the seaside with so many movie reviews to talk about, I'll probably have these Tuesdays covered until Christmas.

And also, remember everyone: go and watch Batman vs. Superman when it hits theatres because it has Henry Cavill in it, and our very own Charles Brandon definitely likes the support!

Talkie Tuesday: Game of Thrones

Hello everyone!

So it's been ages, or so I feel, since I've last seen an actual movie and talked about it in Tuesday's segment, but I can't help it! There's just SO MUCH going on with TV shows I'm catching up to, it's ridiculous. I mean, I'm still working my way through the Tudors, then there were some others I haven't been able to see yet, and certain ones have just started their summer run (I'm looking at you, Teen Wolf). 

How am I supposed to watch movies then?!  

I don't, I suppose. And I would like to point out at this particular line of the blog that anyone who hasn't yet seen the last season of Game of Thrones should probably stop reading right about now. And I mean it, because there are going to be spoilers, and I don't want you all to come barging and being all WE HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET.

Talkie Tuesday: The Tudors (season 2)

Hello everyone!

And I'm back, with yet another Tudors review. One would think that I've had enough after the one I did for the first season, but nope, one would be wrong!

Can you tell I've been watching Game of Thrones recently and that Jagen H'Ghar is probably one of the best characters ever? 

Anyway.

My friend Maegan definitely has a say in this, obviously, considering she seems to have liked the review I did on the first season, and she asked that I continue with these until I'm done with the show! Which basically means two down after this, and two more to get through!

But then, when you get to look at Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Henry Cavill on screen, I don't think anyone would really complain, now, would they?

Talkie Tuesday: The Tudors (season 1)

Hello everyone!

So last week, I talked about how I was watching a TV show and needed to finish it before I would write about it. I can now happily confirm that I've watched the full first season of The Tudors, and after a break during which I finished Hawaii Five-0 season 5 (yes, yes this isn't a blog post about THAT, but I recommend it. It's SO. GOOD.) I plan on starting season two.  

So, the Tudors is an older show which has already finished, as most of you probably already know (if not, you just learned). It ran for four seasons, with ten episodes in three seasons and eight in one. Since it ran between 2007 and 2010 (or was it 2011?), you're probably all wondering the same thing:

how come I'm talking about this now?

Well, here it goes: my friend Maegan and I were talking at one point, and one thing led to the other, which eventually led to Henry Cavill. This went on to the Tudors, and the conversation suddenly turned into something like this:

Maegan: It's my favourite show ever, I rewatch episodes so much.

Me: I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've never watched it from start to finish, just random eps.

Maegan: WHAT?

Me: Um ... I've never seen the Tudors, strictly speaking?

Maegan: BLASPHEMY! WE MUST CHANGE THIS!

Haha, okay, it wasn't EXACTLY like that. But we DID decide that, for my home schooling project titled 'How to make sure you DEFINITELY watch The Tudors', Maegan and I decided to watch the show together.
