Talkie Tuesday: Love on the Slopes

"Be a warrior, not a worrier."

Hello everyone!

Okay. So.

Because it's January, and I was having this historical movie binge, I was actually planning on watching The Man in the Iron Mask next, and reviewing that one.

Turns out, however, that something else just nipped that idea right in the bud.

I'll still be watching (and reviewing) that one, for sure. But first, for tonight's review.

Love on the Slopes seemed like the type of movie that I could cheerfully lose myself in for the hour and a half (sans commercials). It has a hunky male lead, a cute female one, stunning vistas, and a love story thrown in for good measure.

What's not to like, right?

Tome Thursday: Blood Fury

Hello everyone!

Another book review this Thursday and once again I'm back with a J. R. Ward creation.

As opposed to the last one which I reviewed from this particular world, however, I actually liked this book.

If you recall, I have a very loving relationship with most of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, mostly because I feel as if the guys are tough, but eventually unbend a little, and the girls can stand their ground (more or less) and soften towards the guys in the end.

Then there was the book which will not be named, and the highly successful as well as likeable Bourbon Kings series, and now we're back with the trainees!

The kids from the Black Dagger Legacy series have grown on me since before these books even began, but then again, when you also get the chance to catch up with the Brothers and their extended family, well, what's not to like?

So without further ado, allow me to present the third book in the BDL series, titled Blood Fury to continue with the bloody trend (pun intended).

Talkie Tuesday: Troy

"Honour the gods, love your women, and defend your country!"

Hello everyone!

Time for yet annother movie review and since we're doing a history streak, let's go to the last that aired on one of our channels here (well, ok, technically the last one was The Last Samurai, but since I've already done that review, I'm counting this as last).

Troy is another one of those oldies-goldies in the sense that Hollywood doesn't (or almost doesn't) generally produce movies that are beyond 90 minutes long anymore. I don't know why - probably has something to do with the fact that audiences have become pretty spoiled. If they don't get what they believe they paid for in an hour or so, they think they've been cheated. Whatever happened to patience is a virtue?

Troy is around 160 minutes (the cinematic cut that is) of pure movie joy if that's what you came to watch, which, if you bought a ticked back in 2004, you did.

I do have to make a disclaimer here, however: if you went to see it for Brad Pitt, good for you, you can have at that reason. Me, I prefer some Eric Bana.

So let's dig in, shall we?

Tome Thursday: Camp Half-Blood Confidential

Hello everyone!

Well, I'm still not 100% alright. It feels as though I'm walking on a knife's edge and have been all week - so long as I take my meds faithfully mid-morning, then I'm alright, but if I forget ... well, I think there may be hell to pay.

That being said, however, the wind outside at the moment is absolutely TERRIBLE.

Like, seriously, did some sort of random tornado have a child and sent it on a temper tantrum over here? If so, someone please sort this out, give the kid some chocolate or a new chew toy, and send it off to destroy other places.

Why am I talking as if there's someone behind this?

I've been reading on my Greek Gods again, and since I usually have a few favourites along the way, I picked up another Rick Riordan book - written, of course, by the Half-Blood campers themselves - Camp Half-Blood Confidential: Your (REAL) Guide to the Demigod Training Camp.

Which is basically another round of laughs for everyone, so why don't we jump right in?

Talkie Tuesday: Kingdom of Heaven

"A kingdom of conscience, or nothing."

Hello everyone!

I will apologise in advance if I seem to ramble in some parts of this review. Unfortunately, I seem to be coming down with the flu, or at the very least a deathly cold, becaus I keep getting these hot/cold flashes (not Katy Perry approved) and I feel super weak like someone shoved Kryptonite close to Supergirl

Seriously.

It may just be a cold, and I'm doing everything I can to battle this, but I can definitely feel my body is struggling against something, so, again, I apologise.

Also, I apologise for this sudden influx of old history movies!

Well okay, old is a subjective term, but over ten years is pretty old for a movie, right? Right.

The thing is, one of our channels here decided to air these goldies, and I'm enough of a movie geek that I want to rewatch them all. And review.

So let's begin with Kingdom of Heaven.

Saturday Synopsis: 300

"Go tell the Spartans, passer-by: that here, by Spartan law, we lie."

Hello everyone!

So as I wrote earlier this week somewhere, I decided to switch my blog posts around a little because I saw something on the television schedule that made me grin.

Tuesday or Wednesday night, one of our channels aired 300, and I was stoked.

There is virtually nothing better to get you right out of the holiday cheer and back into the real world than some old-fashioned ass-kicking, which 300 delivers in spades and then some. Sure it's gory - but for all that it makes up with witty lines and ridiculous hilarity throughout.

Also, watching half-naked guys running around all muscled is a plus.

Since I'd already reviewed the sequel, I figured I might as well wait until this Saturday to post a review for the original movie from 2006 which pretty much made everything else Greek look fairly nansy in comparison.

I mean, come on - the Spartans literally lived for war, after all.

Tome Thursday: Empire of Silver

Hello everyone!

Suffice to say, when I'm bored out of my skull (and, by Murphy's law, want to read EXACTLY those books I currently can't), dangerous things will happen.

This does include cutting into every single chocolate in my chocolate box to ensure I only get the good stuff, but that's beside the point, as when I'm THIS bored, I usually pull out books that have been known to kick me out of my reading slump before.

My sister is probably rolling her eyes so she can examine the back of her skull.

She KNOWS what this means.

Usually she'd also be right - as she always is, natch - but I haven't gotten that far yet. What I HAVE done, however, is re-read one of my favourite series of all time. Or, I'm re-reading it now, actually, as I'm still munching through the last, fifth book.

I'm talking about Conn Iggulden's Conqueror series, more specifically Empire of Silver.

Tome Thursday: Neutral Zone

Hello everyone!

First book blog of the year, and all of a sudden I've realized that I've become pretty dependent on my e-reader. Most of the newer releases are much easier to get a hold of in the electronic versions, which means that, until further notice (and because I was silly and didn't write down as many book reviews as I could have in my little sheepy notebook) I'm going to have to fall back on my physical book cache (which, admittedly, is still pretty formidable).

This doesn't mean anything, really, in terms of these blogs, because I am DETERMINED to keep them going regardless.

And also by the time I need more new releases for this blog I'll probably already have bought a new e-reader or gotten my old one to work again, so there.

For this particular post I chose a book I read during the Christmas holiday season but never actually got around to putting it on here because ... well, Christmas! But I have to say that it's a part of one of my all-time favourite series, by a favourite author, as well.

I'm talking about Neutral Zone, by Catherine Gayle.

Talkie Tuesday: 300 Rise of an Empire

"Let it be shown: we chose to die on our feet rather than live on our knees!"

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year!

I hope you rang it in well and that you've made all your resolutions and such. Me, I've never really been one for those, but I have made myself a few promises that I intend to keep. That being said, however, it's Tuesday again, and do you know what that means?

Another movie review!

And since there's literally no holiday cheer left - I wrung it all out in December, regardless that I kept on watching some Christmas movies after Christmas - I picked a VERY different movie for tonight.

I'm not entirely sure you can go any more different from cute and fluffy than covered with gore and blood.

Having more time for movies now means I catch the occasional one on television, and 300: Rise of an Empire aired a week or so ago, making sure I hunkered down, got my nibbles, strapped myself with a safety helmet, and watched the Greeks and Persians duke it out.
