Tome Thursday: A Discovery of Witches

Hello everyone!

Once again, I'm late to this bandwagon.

I swear I get this feeling that I'm ETERNALLY late to everything when it comes to fans and fandoms and stuff.

But anyway.

I discovered this particular book series through sheer accident - aka I saw a post on Instagram in which Matthew Goode was sitting on a big black horse and Teresa Palmer was beside him on a gray one.

My interest sat up with a vengeance.

Firstly, Teresa Palmer is a bae and I've loved her in pretty much everything. Secondly, Matthew Goode is notoriously underappreciated. Which means I was obviously paying attention to the #ADiscoveryofWitches tag anywhere I could get it, as the show loomed near.

Meanwhile, in the BOOK version of A Discovery of Witches ...

Tome Thursday: Holy Blood, Holy Grail

Hello everyone!

So every once in a while I'll pick up a book which has somehow or other been deemed inappropriate, scandalous, or, you know, it may even have been forbidden at some point or other.

I mean, The Da Vinci Code is certainly on that list!

But then again, other times I'm going to go back to re-read some things and remember there are other books connected to whatever it is I'm reading, which means that I'll be on the hunt to track down these other sources.

This was what happened to me with tonight's book of choice.

I was never one of those people who would fall so completely into a legend or story that I'd be doing my own research, but just before my parents took a short trip I asked my dad to dig up a book I'd remembered seeing lying about at some point, but books in our house tend to grow legs and clatter everywhere you can imagine.

My father being the amazing man that he is went and actually unearthed this book from under a couple of tires and out of a box. I'm talking about Holy Blood, Holy Grail, of course.

Talkie Tuesday: Kingdom of Heaven

Hello everyone!

I will apologise in advance if I seem to ramble in some parts of this review. Unfortunately, I seem to be coming down with the flu, or at the very least a deathly cold, becaus I keep getting these hot/cold flashes (not Katy Perry approved) and I feel super weak like someone shoved Kryptonite close to Supergirl. 

Seriously.

It may just be a cold, and I'm doing everything I can to battle this, but I can definitely feel my body is struggling against something, so, again, I apologise.

Also, I apologise for this sudden influx of old history movies!

Well okay, old is a subjective term, but over ten years is pretty old for a movie, right? Right.

The thing is, one of our channels here decided to air these goldies, and I'm enough of a movie geek that I want to rewatch them all. And review. 

So let's begin with Kingdom of Heaven.

Tome Thursday: Empire of Silver

Hello everyone!

Suffice to say, when I'm bored out of my skull (and, by Murphy's law, want to read EXACTLY those books I currently can't), dangerous things will happen.

This does include cutting into every single chocolate in my chocolate box to ensure I only get the good stuff, but that's beside the point, as when I'm THIS bored, I usually pull out books that have been known to kick me out of my reading slump before.

My sister is probably rolling her eyes so she can examine the back of her skull.

She KNOWS what this means.

Usually she'd also be right - as she always is, natch - but I haven't gotten that far yet. What I HAVE done, however, is re-read one of my favourite series of all time. Or, I'm re-reading it now, actually, as I'm still munching through the last, fifth book.

I'm talking about Conn Iggulden's Conqueror series, more specifically Empire of Silver.

Talkie Tuesday: Assassin's Creed

Hello everyone!

A regular movie review for you this week, and I picked one of the newer ones I watched, though even this one couldn't exactly be called BRAND NEW, either.

That is to say, I picked it because I very recently watched a trailer for another movie entirely and the wordplay reminded me of this one. But I can't help myself - I accidentally stumbled across Dylan O'Brien and his trailer, saw a glimpse of David Suchet in it, and watched until the very end to try and figure out why, specifically, all these names and happenings are so familiar to me.

Of course then it turned out to be American Assassin, which, for those who don't know, is the first in the series of Mitch Rapp novels written by the deceased Vince Flynn.

At which point, I squealed.

I'm not ashamed to admit it! But that being said, I will share my endless enthusiasm for Mitch Rapp at a latter point, as right now we have a movie to review. Namely, Assassin's Creed.
