Hello everyone!

Hot on the heels of last week's explosive introduction into our newest obsession (or, old-newest, considering these movies are all going for their two decade mark), it's time to have a look at just what happens when big corporations start meddling in little townships.

Oh yeah, that's basically all it's about in this one, really.

Well, that and a vast expansion of the world that suddenly becomes much, much bigger and grander than what we previously imagined.

Pirates of the Caribbean sail on the high seas once more, but this time they need to be wary of multiple things at once.

Betrayal abounds, and people seem to fall in lust left, right and center, and by GOODNESS but the sanest people you'd think should know what they're doing are actually the biggest idiots at the same time.

So without further ado, let's make sure we don't end up in bone cages.

Hello everyone!

 

So a while ago - and this was REALLY a while ago lol - I kind of started my reviews into this particular franchise but never got round to finishing the entire thing.

 

Why?

 

No one knows. It's a mystery!

 

Anyway, this year during vacation I decided I was going to have a little watch party and refresh my memory about all this stuff, and while I didn't get to finish with the last movie quite yet (because I ran out of time and real life is unfortunately a thing) I DO plan on going through number five again as soon as humanly possible.

 

Until then, however, I can probably work on my collection right here on this blog.

 

Because not only do I NOT have the entire thing, I only have numbers three and five and the others are nowhere to be seen.

 

So without further ado, let's start at the very beginning which, as the song goes, is a very good place to start. Rum, ahoy! The Curse of the Black Pearl needs explaining.

 

Talkie Tuesday: Troy

"Honour the gods, love your women, and defend your country!"

Hello everyone!

Time for yet annother movie review and since we're doing a history streak, let's go to the last that aired on one of our channels here (well, ok, technically the last one was The Last Samurai, but since I've already done that review, I'm counting this as last).

Troy is another one of those oldies-goldies in the sense that Hollywood doesn't (or almost doesn't) generally produce movies that are beyond 90 minutes long anymore. I don't know why - probably has something to do with the fact that audiences have become pretty spoiled. If they don't get what they believe they paid for in an hour or so, they think they've been cheated. Whatever happened to patience is a virtue?

Troy is around 160 minutes (the cinematic cut that is) of pure movie joy if that's what you came to watch, which, if you bought a ticked back in 2004, you did.

I do have to make a disclaimer here, however: if you went to see it for Brad Pitt, good for you, you can have at that reason. Me, I prefer some Eric Bana.

So let's dig in, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: Kingdom of Heaven

Hello everyone!

I will apologise in advance if I seem to ramble in some parts of this review. Unfortunately, I seem to be coming down with the flu, or at the very least a deathly cold, becaus I keep getting these hot/cold flashes (not Katy Perry approved) and I feel super weak like someone shoved Kryptonite close to Supergirl. 

Seriously.

It may just be a cold, and I'm doing everything I can to battle this, but I can definitely feel my body is struggling against something, so, again, I apologise.

Also, I apologise for this sudden influx of old history movies!

Well okay, old is a subjective term, but over ten years is pretty old for a movie, right? Right.

The thing is, one of our channels here decided to air these goldies, and I'm enough of a movie geek that I want to rewatch them all. And review. 

So let's begin with Kingdom of Heaven.

Talkie Tuesday: Pirates of the Caribbean Salazar's Revenge

Hello everyone!

I'm excited for this blog post. Can you tell? I haven't been this excited about a post since Beauty and the Beast, and prior to that not for a while. Normally, I like whatever it is I'm typing about - obviously or I wouldn't be writing about it in the first place - but some stuff does get my attention a lot more than others. 

Like, for instance, Pirates of the Caribbean.

I haven't been in the Pirates' mood in a while, certainly not for a bit before AXN decided to put the first four movies of the franchise into its regular programming, which then meant that, every time you tuned in to that channel, one of them was playing at some point or other.

I'm not complaining.

I also did a blog post about At World's End a while ago, and I'll link that one at the bottom.

But last week was my birthday, and to treat myself, I (and my girl friends) went to see the fifth installment of the series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, or as it's alternately known, Salazar's Revenge.

Talkie Tuesday: Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End

"Hoist the colours!"

Hello everyone!

Or should I say arrrrr? 

These past two weekends, AXN decided to premiere Pirates of the Caribbean, introducing the first four movies into its regular program, which delighted me to no end because, one, these movies are amazing, and two, you can never, and I mean never, have enough of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Now to be frank, me and Johnny don't really go well together. I admire him for certain of his roles - but definitely not all - and I will admit I can see the appeal he has for women.

Sadly, not for me.

That being said, however, I thoroughly enjoy his portrayal of Jack, and without the iconic character these movies would certainly not be as successful as they are today. And while it's been on choppy seas since the first trilogy, Jack saved the day and prevented the subsequent movie from being a complete disaster, despite the fact that there were very few original characters who returned for the telling.

And as I'm definitely in the pirate vein just before Easter, and also because this year marks its tenth anniversary, I figured to myself: whyever not? Why shouldn't I do a blog post about the third (and at the time final) Pirates movie, At World's End?

Talkie Tuesday: The Lord of the Rings

"One Ring to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them."

Hello everyone!

Okay, so I bet you're all thinking this is some sort of weird blog post considering the fact that I've talked about Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings so much in the previous ones even when they didn't need to be talked about that it's pretty funny, I guess. And then I go and finally make a totally separate post! 

It's not that bad, I swear.

I mean, okay, yes, it's bad because my love and almost-obsession with this thing is probably something I should at some point be ashamed of, but so far I'm not (and I'm ignoring the coughs and eye rolls from people who will take the almost-obsession and strike the almost out of it!). I think it's one of those literary pieces that stay with you, if you only allow it.

Which is exactly what happened with me, of course, though I won't be talking about the book in this blog post.

I've actually seen the movies so many times so far that I probably know the scripts by heart and I can voice along with the rest of them without looking at the screen. But the movie I'm going to talk about wasn't made by Peter Jackson.

In fact, it was made decades before, in 1978 by a man named Ralph Bakshi.
