Tome Thursday: Gilded Rose

Hello everyone!

I'm finally back.

Well, it's a relative term, as I'm still working to get rid of the rather persistent cough that's currently trying to keep my life absolutely miserable, but I at least don't feel like I need to sleep all the time and do nothing else anymore.

That said, it's time to get right down to business.

And what better way than with a book that stole my heart just before the seasonal cold did?

I swear I occasionally trip and fall face-first into a book collection from an author that I ought to have known long before this, but only discovered now, and end up loving them to bits.

Emma Hamm is an author like that, and I'm DEFINITELY reading just about anything and everything of hers I can get my grubby little hands on ASAP.

For tonight, though, I'm focusing on just the one book, which is a re-telling, conveniently enough.

Let's looks at Gilded Rose.

Talkie Tuesday: The Mummy

"No harm ever came from reading a book."

Hello everyone!

I'm back!

And I have a wonderful movie for you tonight.

This is for all of us who've seen this one so many times it's basically like the air we breathe, who reference quotes from it in our daily lives or just to have great fun, and of course, who look forward to watching it AGAIN just as soon as we possibly can.

There are some movies you can watch over and over again without so much as blinking an eye.

Some that stay with you no matter where you go or what you do.

Tonight's choice is among them, possibly in the top category, because honestly, what could be better than the hot sands of Egypt, a rugged explorer, and mummies?!?

Nothing, that's what (or, not a lot)!

So arm yourselves and bring your cats - we're stepping right into The Mummy.

Tome Thursday: Ghost of the Gaelic Moon

Hello everyone!

I have a slightly different book review for you tonight, seeing as I don't usually go for the paranormal in any way, shape or form.

Yeah, I'm basically a coward. LOL.

But this one got me as I was browsing some new ARC suggestions on BookSirens, that online hub of authors and reviewers where we exchange opinions and books, because it had an interesting enough premise.

I mean, a woman goes to Ireland and falls in love with a ghost? What's not to be intrigued about?

So I decided to pick up a copy of this book and sit down to read it over the course of the last two days or so.

And the only reason it took two days was because of of the fact that I needed to give my eyes a break in between, otherwise I probably would have gone right through it in one sitting.

But enough of me blabbering - Ghost of the Gaelic Moon wants an introduction!

Tome Thursday: Tempted by Twilight

Hello everyone!

I'm back with something that ISN'T Hunger Games related, even though I know I still have the prequel to read, but I needed a break from it so picked up something from BookSirens yet again.

For those of you who don't know yet, BookSirens is a site where you can sign up and pick up different ARCs from, from different authors and genres. The only limitations are how many books you can read to start off with, and how long you have for each book before you're asked to supply a review, on the site itself or on Goodreads, Amazon, etc.

I really like it, they usually give you 90 days, which is MORE than enough for 200 pages (rough estimate), and you can find some really cool hidden gems on there!

I've probably run into more than my share of books that I've fallen in love with thanks to them.

But I took a bit of a break over the summer holidays, and am now back to perusing their choices from the shelves, so here we are.

Tonight's pick is definitely one for this spooky autumn, as it deals with the supernatural, and then some.

Tome Thursday: Hope(less)

Hello everyone!

Today I'm bringing you something a little bit different, or at least different to what I've been reading recently.

It's been a while since I found a really good supernatural book that I'd actually enjoy to the point where I'd want to immediately gobble down the rest of the series; usually what'll happen is that I'll like the first book, but it won't hold my interest all that much that I'd want to devote more time to the subsequent ones.

Not with this.

I picked this one up at random, I think BookBub suggested it to me and the first in the series was free at the time, so I was like sure, why not.

I don't often like YA books, not anymore at least, because I think I've just outgrown them, and most feature a heroine who runs off at the first sight of problems when all you want to do is shake her and tell her to JUST. COMMUNICATE.

This one wasn't like that, which is probably part of the allure here.

Are you ready for this? Better have some hope, because Hope(less) is up next.

Tome Thursday: Black Moon Witch

Hello everyone!

Once again, I hope you're staying safe, and staying at home.

I know this has been said pretty much everywhere and anywhere by this point, but please, stay alert, not anxious, practice as much social distancing as you can, and make sure to be careful about washing your hands and using disinfectant whenever possible.

It's the only way we'll be able to successfully combat this without too much loss of life.

That said, hopefully at least some of the vlogs and blog posts going up at this point in time are keeping you entertained or marginally amused if nothing else.

I myself am back with another book review this week.

And since we started in with our witches last Thursday, it's time to keep going with them!

Serenity Woods ventured out of her usual field of writing with the Murder of Crows series, and having talked about the prequel last week I think it's time to sink our teeth into the actual first novel.

Black Moon Witch sounds ominous enough - let's dive right in!

Tome Thursday: Hunter's Moon Witch

Hello everyone!

This week on my book review list comes one that I actually wanted to read much earlier but somehow got too distracted by every other book thrown my way.

And yes, there's a lot of those!

But I can never stay away from Serenity Woods for too long, no matter what else I'm doing, and I'm blessed to have been granted the chance to read and review this particular prequel to a new paranormal mystery romance series!

If that sounds like a lot of adjectives, you're right. There's a bunch.

But they all convey the message they're supposed to!

If you've been following Ms Woods and her career for a bit, you'll know she's usually more of a contemporary romance writer, but let me tell you, that's not stopping her from making this book absolutely fantastic.

So let's check that the cauldron's bubbling, and see what Hunter's Moon Witch is all about!

Tome Thursday: Angel Off Limits

Hello everyone!

Do you remember sometime right after New Year's when I posted a review on here about a book that shared the story of a guardian angel and his charge?

Well, I found the sequel!

Or, in more precise terms, I found the first official book in the series after the prequel I read through BookSirens.

If you've ever had the chance to read that other review of mine, you'll know that I absolutely LOVED the idea of guardian angels, and that the author, Veronica Conley, did a fantastic job at creating an environment for these angels to live and thrive in, giving them personalities and quirks, and on top of it all some really good backbones for a further story.

Imagine my surprise and delight, then, to see that the first book of The Greater Angels of the Empyrean was ALSO on BookSirens!

I snatched that ARC up so fast like you wouldn't believe.

Then I gobbled up Angel Off Limits in one day.

Tome Thursday: Angel on Watch

Hello everyone!

Tonight we're taking a look at a slightly different story.

A little while ago I was approached on Goodreads to join this new site that's still in the beginning stages, BookSirens, where readers and authors can come together and exchange ARCs and reviews.

Free books, you say?

Where do I sign up?

Since signing up, I've read a couple of books and decided that I wanted to post a few of those on my blog as well, because I want to share them with you.

The first one of those is going up tonight.

If you've seen the movie City of Angels, this particular book might be right up your alley.

Angel on Watch is, after all, about guardian angels.

Tome Thursday: The Savior

Hello everyone!

I'm back with a non-Star Wars book review, can you believe it?

I hardly can myself.

It's been a bit of a ride for me, traipsing through the galaxy far, far away, and I know I'll return over there eventually again, but maybe not quite so soon. I have a few other books on the list that have been BOUNCING around, trying to get my attention.

Although the item of tonight's blog post didn't need to do anything.

It sort of only had to get published.

Readers of this blog might know and recall my almost-undying love for the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward, and the fact that I've pretty much reviewed ... about half ot the books so far? Did I get to half? More?

Anyway.

When it was announced that Murhder was getting his own book, I was HELLA intrigued. Because he's the only insane Brother, and has been name-dropped all over the place. So with The Savior, we finally get to hear his story.

Tome Thursday: Time's Convert

Hello everyone!

Back with some of my favourite characters yet again, and I was reminded that I need to revisit the world of All Souls at some point in the near future.

Maybe when I stop chewing through our Slovene translation of The Lord of the Rings, which leaves much to be desired (I can now say this with some authority given that I'm a ceritified translator myself, and also because I know the original version almost by heart so if someone translates 'one Silmaril' into 'three Silmarils' I can call bull when I see it).

But I really need to also get my hands on the physical version of these books.

I currently only own the electronic ones, you see.

And it's such a shame because the one thing that e-readers don't really give you the chance for is to easily browse through books like you would when holding an acual one. BUT, that being said, I'm very pro-electronics seeing as it can be much easier to pack!

Enough of my babbling, however.

It's time to dive back in with the Bishop-De Clermonts with Time's Convert.

Tome Thursday: A Discovery of Witches

Hello everyone!

Once again, I'm late to this bandwagon.

I swear I get this feeling that I'm ETERNALLY late to everything when it comes to fans and fandoms and stuff.

But anyway.

I discovered this particular book series through sheer accident - aka I saw a post on Instagram in which Matthew Goode was sitting on a big black horse and Teresa Palmer was beside him on a gray one.

My interest sat up with a vengeance.

Firstly, Teresa Palmer is a bae and I've loved her in pretty much everything. Secondly, Matthew Goode is notoriously underappreciated. Which means I was obviously paying attention to the #ADiscoveryofWitches tag anywhere I could get it, as the show loomed near.

Meanwhile, in the BOOK version of A Discovery of Witches ...
