Talkie Tuesday: Hercules

Hello everyone!

 

This week I'm once again straying just a little, as I haven't poked at Disney in a bit and figured, why not?

 

Besides, my Youtube algorithm kept suggesting videos from this movie for me and I couldn't resist any longer, not when Hades looked like the funniest thing since that TikTok video of a hamster or gerbil dancing with a water bottle haha!

 

Disney has been on a roll with live action remakes of its cartoons, most of which reached a fever popularity pitch in the nineties, or at the very least some of the best were released then.

 

Somehow or other, I never considered this one for viewing pleasure, however.

 

I'm not sure why.

 

I mean, it has Greek mythology (adjusted), Danny DeVito (perfect) and it surprised me with the sardonic, often dry sense of humour that you can see right off the bat from the trailer as well.

 

I'm talking, of course, about Hercules.

 

Talkie Tuesday: 300 Rise of an Empire

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year! 

I hope you rang it in well and that you've made all your resolutions and such. Me, I've never really been one for those, but I have made myself a few promises that I intend to keep. That being said, however, it's Tuesday again, and do you know what that means?

Another movie review!

And since there's literally no holiday cheer left - I wrung it all out in December, regardless that I kept on watching some Christmas movies after Christmas - I picked a VERY different movie for tonight.

I'm not entirely sure you can go any more different from cute and fluffy than covered with gore and blood.

Having more time for movies now means I catch the occasional one on television, and 300: Rise of an Empire aired a week or so ago, making sure I hunkered down, got my nibbles, strapped myself with a safety helmet, and watched the Greeks and Persians duke it out.

Tome Thursday: Percy Jackson's Greek Gods

Hello everyone!

Boy, what a week!

First off, that cross-over event - Crisis on Earth-X was absolutely spectacularly AMAZING over Monday and Tuesday (or, in my case, with a bit of a delay, on Tuesday and Wednesday). My reveiw of this will be coming on Saturday since I bumped the Talkie Tuesday for just this purpose. After the fun with the Dominators last year (which I was reminded of, very kindly, by my Facebook memories) this year was off-the-charts insane, in all good ways!

But back to books.

I've seriously been reading like some sort of machine on this end, moving through reading slumps like a pro by picking up oldies-goldies, and then of course there was the massive autumn Book Depository order I placed not too long ago.

Once it arrived, can we say happy camper?

Among those books I ordered was the one I'm reviewing tonight: Percy Jackson's Greek Gods.

Tome Thursday: Daughter of the Earth and Sky

Hello everyone!

Back with another book review tonight, and once again I've fallen down the rabbit hole of Greek mythology. This happens to me every once in a while - if I'm not traipsing around Middle Earth then I'm going to be running from Cyclopses and giants with Percy Jackson.

Or, in this case, I will be learning a whole new deal about Greek gods in modern world from Kaitlin Bevis.

A while ago, I reviewed the first in her Daughters of Zeus book series, Persephone, and I do have to admit that the first one was a little so-so in my opinion. As it turns out, the second didn't exactly make it to my favourite books list, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the story at all. It just means I'm working my way through this and am going to, eventually, see light at the end of the tunnel.

Still, considering it IS about Greek gods, you know I'm going to be reading to the very end. There's just nothing that can stop me on that account, after all.

So without further ado, let's check in with our book review of the week, shall we? Daughter of the Earth and Sky, by Kaitlin Bevis.

Tome Thursday: Aaru

Hello everyone!

Before I say anything else, allow me to write something first.

WARNING: there are triggers in this book. Namely for sensitive content, religious content, sexual image of teenagers, stalking, and a general warning against pedophiles.

I usually don't have to put this in front of any of my blog posts, but I felt the need to stamp it front and centre first, because I failed to see any of these in the book itself and, while I'm not squeamish and generally speaking I'm fine with most of what I read, some readers aren't, and so I believe that this should be added right before you start reading the book Aaru.

Secondly, I'd like to say I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, for which I'm very thankful to the author, Mr. David Meredith.

Opportunities like these don't come along very often, and despite the warning posted on top, I'll do my very best to give a review that will reflect good both on me and the author.

Now, to the book, Aaru!

Tome Thursday: Persephone

Hello everyone!

At this point in time, my love for Greek Mythology is probably not such a well-known fact, despite me actually adoring it more than I adore a lot of things in the long run. The thing is, however, that I haven't had much interest in books about it for a while, that is until I randomly stumbled over one that caught my interest and wouldn't let go.

I can't even say just WHY it happened - though probably it was Bookbub telling me the book was being offered for a low price on Kobo.

I'm talking about Kailtin Bevis's Persephone.

Now, I have already shown in the past that I have this thing for mythology and retellings (can anyone say Percy Jackson with me?), so I was really excited for this. You have to be a total geek to understand my geekiness, but I also needed something to tide me over while I'm hunting for the latest Alison Weir book about Anne Boleyn.

In any event, however, yesterday was spent mostly by sticking my nose into the pages of this book and not looking up until I was done.

Tome Thursday: A Court of Mist and Fury

Back with regular updates this week and regular blog posts, which means today is book blog day. And I had this one ready to go since before I left for my impromptu seaside vacation, but that doesn't mean I forgot about it.

How could I, when it was so awesome I figured I might need a heart transplant by the end?

So most of you know that I was late on the Sarah J. Maas appreciation train here, because it took me a little bit to find some amazing vloggers who spoke about her books, and then I started reading her Throne of Glass series first, but I'm in the middle of that one at the moment whereas I definitely gobbled up the other one, because ... reasons.

Okay, let's be honest, there's just one reason and his name is Rhysand.

Yeah, yeah, if any of you remember my blog post about the first book in this series, you'll probably also remember that I hated Rhys back in the day.

Well, opinions change, alright? And in A Court of Mist and Fury, they most certainly did.
