Talkie Tuesday: Lady and the Tramp

"And they call it bella notte ..."

Hello everyone!

Welcome to tonight's blog post.

As you can see, I've moved away from Bollywood yet again (though you can always count on the fact I'll get back to it at some point, my list of movies that I still haven't watched is long, but distinguished haha). This time though, I've gone in the opposite direction and right into the golden era of animation.

Aka, the Walt Disney one.

Say what you want about the man - and opinions are certainly divided - but his company knew how to make movies back in the day.

They didn't even need to be all that complicated either, as we're about to witness.

All you really needed was a couple of protagonists, a very realistic situation, and boom you had a story.

Even if the main characters were dogs - or possibly BECAUSE of that.

We're heading back to the 1950s in Lady and the Tramp.

Talkie Tuesday: Aladdin

"A whole new world ..."

Hello everyone!

I can't believe I've never talked about this movie on my blog.

To be fair, however, I'm looking back through ALL my blogs, and somehow, not many of the classic animations even made it on here?!

I've apparently been sleeping on these!

Dishonour on my cow LOL.

ANYWAY.

Without further ado, let's go change that right up, shall we? Just like they say in the opening song:

Come on down, stop on by, hop a carpet and fly to another Arabian night!

And this time, it'll be a hot one, because it's going to be with this street rat named Aladdin.

Talkie Tuesday: Cinderella

"A dream is a wish your heart makes."

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the review of a movie I swore, back in the day, I'd never do.

Times change, however.

Because I honestly can't remember if I've ever even seen this one before, though I think I must have. I mean, I've seen pretty much all the major OG titles Disney released back in the day, back when their movies were actually still GOOD (occasionally problematic, but certainly good in animated execution).

So I decided, what the heck, I might as well do it now, right?

Because, like I said, times change, and so do the people with them.

I certainly never expected to actually enjoy the movie as much as I did, because originally I said the princess was a waste, waiting and pining. Turns out she's a little bit more than that, but that's alright, that's what we're here for: to live and learn.

Without further ado: Cinderella.

Talkie Tuesday: The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl

"It's the circle of life."

Hello everyone!

Tonight, I have a very special blog post for you.

And no, it's not because it's really long, or intricately detailed, or hyperlinked into outer space.

It's because it's so nostalgic.

Or at least, it's generally nostalgic, I should think, and should be for pretty much anyone who opens it up to read it, unless you've just crawled out of your diapers and need time to learn this subject some more, in which case come back in a couple of years.

But I digress.

Disney Plus being what it is - big corporation background aside - you can watch pretty much anything and everything your heart desires on it. Tonight's choice is no exception.

So without further ado, let's travel down memory lane, with The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl.

Talkie Tuesday: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

"... and they lived happily ever after."

Hello everyone!

Welcome to tonight's movie of choice, which if you've seen last week's you knew this was coming.

As if I could just let the insult that is the 2025 version slide without touching the original.

And even then, the ACTUAL original is a fairy tale written way back when!

But I digress.

Back in the days before WWII, Disney decided it was going to try and launch this whole animation shindig.

This was the tale they chose to do it with.

They were so successful that they've been regularly pumping out animated features about "their" princesses ever since!

So remember to stay away from perfect-looking, delicious apples, and let's have a look at Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

Talkie Tuesday: Snow White

"Fearless, fair, brave, and true."

Hello everyone!

So sorry for the wait.

Unfortunately, while my country isn't as deep in hell as some other European ones (looking at you, poor, poor Spain ...), we're still experiencing a heatwave that's quite literally sweated the life out of me thus far.

Morning shifts combined with high temperatures meant that I mostly just vegged out in the afternoons and tried my hardest to not do anything, including sitting behind a computer to type.

This, of course, means I've fallen behind in this whole blogging business.

That's okay though! Because we're back.

And oh boy, do we have a doozy tonight.

Unless you're living under a big ass rock, you've heard all about the controversy surrounding tonight's movie of choice, and I can totally see where everyone's coming from. I really can.

Because let's face it, there have definitely been better adaptations of Snow White.

Talkie Tuesday: Bambi

"Love is a song that never ends."

Hello everyone!

I have no idea what prompted me to pull this particular movie up over the course of the weekend and re-watch it, because I hadn't touched it in literal decades, for a very simple reason.

It's got a DISTRESSING part within it that we can probably all agree made us sob.

But either way, this Sunday was when I curled up in bed and pulled up Disney Plus, just because.

In every other way, this movie is a reminder of how good the old, classic Disney animation used to be, without all this "progressive" nonsense stuffed in.

10/10, actually, when they make a CGI adaptation of this - and apparently they're working on it - there's going to be at least one of the three amigos who doesn't actually pair up with his mate because 'we're born for more than procreation' or some ridiculous thing like that.

I'm paraphrasing but, you get the idea.

Without further ado, let's look at Bambi.

Talkie Tuesday: Atlantis the Lost Empire

"... in a single day and night of misfortune,

the island of Atlantis disappeared into the depths of the sea."

Hello everyone!

After taking last week off, we're back with a new round of blog posts for this one, and the first to begin them is a Walt Disney Pictures presentation.

I mean, if it's not Disney it's gonna be Bollywood, ya know.

I have to admit that I NEVER watched this as a kid. I remember it's initial release, because McDonald's did Happy Meals with toys from this thing in them, and I thought the princess, with her white hair and such, was super cool, but that's about it.

Dishonor on my cow, I know.

I finally got round to watching it a little bit ago (okay, a WHILE ago, but I had a chance to rewatch it since) and I have to say I'm dutifully impressed by the end results of it all.

Plus, I mean, this is about the legend of Atlantis, in Disney version. What's NOT to like with that sort of premise?

Buckle up and let's descend leagues under the sea, in Atlantis the Lost Empire.

Talkie Tuesday: The Sword in the Stone

"And the glorious reign of King Arthur was begun."

Hello everyone!

I'm taking it old school today.

And I'm talking very, VERY old school.

Because I was feeling nostalgic this weekend what with some things going on in my family and at work, so I decided to sit down and watch something I haven't in a long while.

Turns out, it's even better nowadays when I can actually UNDERSTAND all the jokes that went right over my head when I was a child!

So without further ado, I'm just going to hop right into it.

Because, like they say in the movie itself, nothing ventured - nothing gained.

And we'll gain nothing whatsoever if we don't talk about The Sword in the Stone.

Talkie Tuesday: Encanto

"Make your family proud."

Hello everyone!

This week, I'm bringing you the review of what was probably one of the most well-received movies in 2021, and yes, I am once again late with it.

Listen, not having Disney+ or anything Disney-related over here (yet) comes with a step price, okay?

Plus I haven't gone into cinemas to watch a Disney movie since forever ago, and I doubt I'm going to do it again any time soon, either.

So anyway, I'm late, yes yes, we all know this, I usually am, but, here we are!

And we bring the review just the same.

Now fair warning, however: this will be a rant review. I did not like this movie. In fact, I hate it with a passion, which is something new when it comes to Disney releases. So if you're looking for some warm, cuddly, fuzzy feeling, please don't read this and then complain that you didn't get it.

There won't be any. However, let's start with the actual review first, shall we? Encanto, up next.

Talkie Tuesday: Quest for Camelot

"A knight's strength comes from the heart."

Hello everyone!

I finally return with an actual, movie-related blog post, which has been a bit lacking since I fell into the black hole of gaming on Youtube.

But never fear, I still have a list of stuff waiting to be watched, including but not limited to Black Widow, so here we go! Tonight's one is a blast from the past more than anything else. I mean, the movie IS 23 years old, which is as long as someone's lifetime.

Then again all the good movies seem to have the longevity to them at the end of the day so I'm not even remotely surprised that this is what happens.

Anyway, I'm rambling now.

Why don't I stop with my babble and jump straight into the important bits?

Aka, you know the story of the Sword in the Stone - but do you know, or do you remember, the story of the Quest for Camelot?

Talkie Tuesday: Hercules

"What is the measure of a true hero?"

Hello everyone!

This week I'm once again straying just a little, as I haven't poked at Disney in a bit and figured, why not?

Besides, my Youtube algorithm kept suggesting videos from this movie for me and I couldn't resist any longer, not when Hades looked like the funniest thing since that TikTok video of a hamster or gerbil dancing with a water bottle haha!

Disney has been on a roll with live action remakes of its cartoons, most of which reached a fever popularity pitch in the nineties, or at the very least some of the best were released then.

Somehow or other, I never considered this one for viewing pleasure, however.

I'm not sure why.

I mean, it has Greek mythology (adjusted), Danny DeVito (perfect) and it surprised me with the sardonic, often dry sense of humour that you can see right off the bat from the trailer as well.

I'm talking, of course, about Hercules.

Talkie Tuesday: Raya and the Last Dragon

"Someone has to take the first step.

Hello everyone!

So this Sunday marked the break day for Men in Kilts, aka they didn't air the next episode and so I'm saving the fifth for next week because I decided to watch something entirely different on my one afternoon off.

If you look back through my blog posts you'll see that, often enough, I'll run into these Disney animated movies.

I mean, I grew up on these!

Not the 3D ones, obviously, but the original animated cartoons!

Still, Disney has definitely managed to hit the success button with a number of their newer animations, so when I saw the trailer for their latest endeavour, I thought to myself it was something I should probably watch eventually.

This past Sunday turned into that 'eventually', and then it was time for Raya and the Last Dragon.

Talkie Tuesday: Mulan 2020

"Loyal, brave and true."

Hello everyone!

So every little chick and their mother are chirping about this movie.

And when I say everyone, mind you, I mean EVERYONE.

Everywhere you turn you can see some sort of commentary on this, from good to bad (mostly bad though). There are a couple of positive reviews but, unfortunately, most of this is as negative as it comes, and I do believe only one other got such a bad reception from audiences.

The Disney company used to have a good heading and knew where they were going. I'm starting to believe that might not be the case anymore.

After the Star Wars debacle (still hotly debated all around the internet), the live-action remakes of beloved cartoons was always going to be a dicey proposition.

But I liked two of those. I haven't seen the rest yet, but I'm planning on it.

This one I was unsure about going in, and it turns out I was right. Mulan is one of those things you'd think they couldn't get wrong - but they did.

Talkie Tuesday: Frozen II

"Step into your power."

Hello everyone!

So after about half a week of back and forth over whether or not there would be a blog post, I'm FINALLY back.

Unfortunately I sometimes suffer from headaches which occur because I either a) haven't been drinking enough water; b) haven't slept enough; or c) I've spent too much time staring at a book or screen.

I think it might have been a combination of all three of these, coupled with the fact that I had friends over on Friday on top of already not sleeping well. I felt the headache beginning while still happily playing Cluedo, but it wasn't until Saturday that it blew into epic proportions. Not quite a migraine, but definitely painful enough!

Here I am, finally, with the promised movie review which should have gone up a whole lot earlier!

And yet, better late than never, right?

For this week's blog post, we're going right back into the cold, so hopefully you've bundled up again.

Show yourself, Frozen II.

Talkie Tuesday: Frozen

"Let it go."

Hello everyone!

I'm throwing it back with today's blog post.

Way back.

Well, okay, not WAY, WAY back, but I'm certainly going a couple of years into the past with my movie choice for tonight. I have an explanation, however!

I dearly want to review Frozen II on this blog, but it turns out - because I started blogging AFTER this franchise started - that I don't really have Frozen itself on here yet.

Well, this won't do, said my brain.

So here I am tonight, taking us back to when Disney went and practically remade itself in the 2010s by launching arguably one of its best movies of all time, both in terms of monetary revenues and general storyline, which diverged from the usual thing Disney's known for.

Since then, there have been a bunch of others following a similar vein, but it more or less all began with Frozen, and its subsequent success.

Grab your long johns and a thermos, people. The cold is about to bother us, Frozen-style.

Talkie Tuesday: Cinderella

Hello everyone!
Back to my movie blog routine, seeing as I still have so many to go through, I hoarded quite a bit of them for my three week vacation (or was it almost a month?) and ended up sometimes watching two per night while I was on my own, because what better way can you imagine of relaxing than by settling down, all cozy, with your favourite snack and drink, the air smelling of salt and pine needles, and watching some of your favourite left-behind movies?

You're right, sounds about perfect to me!

Which is why I did a lot of it, and after finishing with The Longest Ride, I went with not so much of an alphabetic list through my movies, but mostly through the ones I couldn't bear to wait for until I watched, and the next one of the list was Cinderella.

I had heard different reviews for this one prior to leaving for vacation, and since I didn't have any internet connection before seeing it myself, I could only rely on what I would personally feel, but I was inclined to hope for the best. After all, you can't mess up much with an original Disney Princess, right?
