Talkie Tuesday: Jodhaa Akbar

Hello everyone!

 

I know, I know, you're probably getting sick of me by now with these.

 

I wish I'd be capable of apologizing but, I'm honestly REALLY enjoying my foray into Indian cinema, so why would I stop?

 

Although I'll admit it takes some serious stamina. This thing I'm reviewing tonight is over three and a half hours long! That's like ... a lot, compared to most movies nowadays haha.

 

But that said, I actually didn't have that much trouble sitting and watching it through in one go, because apparently, my attention span can and will adapt to what it needs, once I'm interested enough for that to happen that is.

 

So let's not waste too many introductory words, then. We have a lot of ground to cover.

 

Instead, let's travel back in time to roughly 16th century India, in a time when religious upheaval seemed to be rather prevalent. Let's go back and see Jodhaa Akbar.

 

Troublemaker (Booktober)

This is maybe not the most autumnal book I've ever read BUT it's my most recent non-fiction read and I really did want to share it with you guys. I've never known much about Scientology as a whole until I heard about Tom Cruise and this religion of his. I have, however, liked Leah Remini for quite some time, so when I stumbled over her television documentary series, I had to pick up this book, too. If you want to know a bit more about Scientology - at least from someone who's as blunt and as upfront as Ms Remini - then I think this is definitely the book for you. Be aware, however, that it isn't going to be all honey and roses, and you should be just fine!

 

 

 

Indoctrinated into the church as a child while living with her mother and sister in New York, Remini eventually moved to Los Angeles, where her dreams of becoming an actress and advancing Scientology's causes grew increasingly intertwined. But when she began to raise questions about some of the church's actions, she found herself a target. In the end, she was declared by the church to be a threat to their organization and therefore a "Suppressive Person," and as a result, all of her fellow parishioners—including members of her own family—were told to disconnect from her. Forever.

Tome Thursday: Aaru

Hello everyone!

Before I say anything else, allow me to write something first.

WARNING: there are triggers in this book. Namely for sensitive content, religious content, sexual image of teenagers, stalking, and a general warning against pedophiles.

I usually don't have to put this in front of any of my blog posts, but I felt the need to stamp it front and centre first, because I failed to see any of these in the book itself and, while I'm not squeamish and generally speaking I'm fine with most of what I read, some readers aren't, and so I believe that this should be added right before you start reading the book Aaru.

Secondly, I'd like to say I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, for which I'm very thankful to the author, Mr. David Meredith.

Opportunities like these don't come along very often, and despite the warning posted on top, I'll do my very best to give a review that will reflect good both on me and the author.
