Men in Kilts: Culture and Tradition

"There's nothing more traditional than a well-dressed Scotsman."

Hello everyone!

We return to our regularly scheduled programming ... even if we're now one episode behind the actual release dates, but no matter!

We shall persevere and continue on through our trek across Scotland.

Our two favourite Scots returned to their journeying this weekend with a new episode, but because I took a bit of a two-week break to watch some movies and review them on here, I'm still only on episode five of the show instead of six.

Ah well!

This just means that I'll be a week late in wrapping up the reviews, but that's okay.

When it's a good thing, it's definitely a good thing.

So without further ado and more lollygagging from me, here's Men in Kilts, a very traditional episode titled - you guessed it - Culture and Tradition.

Tome Thursday: A Familiar Fantasy

Hello everyone!

I come to you with a very special offering today.

So as you know if you've been paying attention to this blog, Hermione Moon (aka Serenity Woods) has been writing witchy romances with a hint of mystery for the past year or so.

She's also amazing enough to offer a completely stand-alone, unrelated novella to those of you who subscribe to her newsletter, the link to which you can find right here.

It's really only a handful of pages long, but quality does not count for quantity where Ms Moon is concerned, let me tell you.

This one could very well have been a full length novel for what it tells and teaches us, and I honestly loved it the moment I got my hands on it.

It's one of those stories that really stick with you, even if they're short.

But that's how it used to work with all the stories our grandmother's told us! And A Familiar Fantasy is basically just that.

Talkie Tuesday: Raya and the Last Dragon

"Someone has to take the first step.

Hello everyone!

So this Sunday marked the break day for Men in Kilts, aka they didn't air the next episode and so I'm saving the fifth for next week because I decided to watch something entirely different on my one afternoon off.

If you look back through my blog posts you'll see that, often enough, I'll run into these Disney animated movies.

I mean, I grew up on these!

Not the 3D ones, obviously, but the original animated cartoons!

Still, Disney has definitely managed to hit the success button with a number of their newer animations, so when I saw the trailer for their latest endeavour, I thought to myself it was something I should probably watch eventually.

This past Sunday turned into that 'eventually', and then it was time for Raya and the Last Dragon.

Tome Thursday: On the Stroke of Midlife

Hello everyone!

As the weather starts getting warmer (though looking at you, random snowstorm, to GO AWAY) I usually start picking up books that reflect that, but when I woke up one morning and saw an email from my all-time favourite author about a new series she's about to launch into the ether, I gave a little fangirl squeal.

Okay, a big fangirl squeal LOL.

Serenity Woods has basically won me over with her wonderful writing, lovely characters, and the best part of all, PEOPLE COMMUNICATING LIKE THE ADULTS THEY ARE, not just running off at the first sign of trouble.

So naturally, if she says there's something new on the horizon, I'm going to sit up and pay attention.

For the past year or so, maybe a little more, she's also been writing as Hermione Moon, and her genre were cozy paranormal romance mysteries, which is what she returned to for the time being.

After all, there can never be enough of mystery and romance!

On the Stroke of Midlife is the first book in her new Moonlight Moonshine series, and this is what it's about.

Talkie Tuesday: It Was Always You

"You don't regret the things you do - you regret the things you don't do."

Hello everyone!

I'm taking a mini break from what our two favourite Scotsmen were doing this weekend (hint: it has to do with sheep) because I kind of haven't had the time to catch up on the show yet.

BUT.

I did actually watch a movie not too long ago, another Hallmark production as a matter of fact, which I thought could be an interesting topic for discussion.

To be fair, however, Hallmark hasn't exactly vowed me this calendar year yet, which is kind of funny and sad at the same time since I usually find at least one or two movies up until this point which I genuinely enjoy and giggle over.

Alas, not in 2021, it seems.

It Was Always You promised a heck of a lot, but to me personally didn't deliver.

Tome Thursday: Into the Dark

Hello everyone!

This week we're returning to a galaxy far, far away, because believe it or not, there was another High Republic book that ended up being published.

I need to pay better attention to everything if I'm being honest.

That aside, however, there's something to be said about interstellar adventures and excitement, something that people always seem so keen on. Especially nowadays with the additional exploration and deep dive on Mars, I can easily imagine this becoming an even bigger emphasis eventually.

Sure it's sci-fi, but at the same time it IS a possibility!

Well, if you don't count in the fact that some of the stuff is completely absurd. I can't decide whether it's Star Wars or Star Trek that wins in THAT department.

But before I lose myself in too many notes right off the bat, I should probably tell you what book we're looking into.

It's Claudia Gray's Into the Dark, and, man ... yeah, it goes dark alright.

Men in Kilts: Witchcraft & Superstition

"Ghosts and ghouls."

Hello everyone!

So we're about halfway through this season of Men in Kilts, and I have to say, you have to be tone deaf not to be enjoying this show immensely.

Sam and Graham take us through various aspects of Scotland (and then some!) not to mention the callbacks to Outlander are by far incredibly numerous. And on top of that, the guys are just hysterical most of the time.

By this point we've rolled up to what Claire experienced upon her second honeymoon with Frank back in the day, which is that the people of Scotland are as superstitious as they come.

Probably more so.

Given the fact that three quarters of their lives are spent in the bog and fog, or were at least, I'd say it's a fairly accurate description.

Without further ado, let's have a look at Witchcraft & Superstition in Scotland - and don't worry, we aren't getting burned at the stake.

Tome Thursday: A Destiny Reborn

Hello everyone!

So if you remember, a little while ago - more specifically in January of this year - I read and reviewed this little book about a group of scientists and soldiers trying to travel back into the past to prevent the POTUS from detonating nukes across the globe and destroying the world in the process.

I also said I would be returning to the series sooner rather than later.

And so, here I am!

Rebecca Hefner has quickly risen up the ranks of authors who I love to read books from and I can't WAIT to get my hands on the third and final book int this trilogy. Prevent the Past has definitely struck all the right chores for me thus far and it looks like number three might be the best of all.

But before we can get to the last book, we have to bridge the gap of course, with a little help from Booksirens (again).

Which means it's time to pick up the good fight once more and see whether or not we can help our heroes in changing the past.

A Destiny Reborn, book two in the Prevent the Past series, is up next.

Men in Kilts: Song and Dance

"Bagpipes."

Hello everyone!

You know, if you haven't figured out by now that this show is prime time entertainment on Sunday nights, you're missing out.

Because there's just something about Scotland that people have fallen in love with through Outlander, but more importantly, our two favourite Scots are basically having the time of their lives in Men in Kilts.

And it sure as heck shows!

I mean, we've covered food, drink, and sports thus far, which has resulted in some questionable bets and decisions (though to be fair I hear no one complaining about the skinny dipping last episode), and we keep on going.

Since we can't toss the boys into barley anymore and they can't toss around logs for fun, it's time to toss some swords on the ground for them.

Because if there's anything the Scots know how to do, and do well, it's connected to song and dance.

As you do.
