Talkie Tuesday: The Rise of Skywalker

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ...

Hello everyone!

Well.

You can get it off your chest right now. I'm pretty sure everyone who's actually wanted to watch these movies has seen this film way, WAY before me.

In my defense, I was so mad after Episode VIII, that when they announced and released the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, I steadfastly and staunchly refused to touch it with a ten foot pole.

Yep, that's the entire plot and reasoning behind why I'm only reviewing this one now.

But since finishing up the Jurassic movies last week, I realized this would be hanging around my neck like some sort of dead weight, dragging me down, and so here we are.

And I have to admit ... I didn't hate it, nor did I not like it as much as I was afraid I might.

It's definitely not a masterpiece, though.

The Rise of Skywalker, plagued by the problems of its predecessor, does its best, but ultimately can't fully restore our faith in these movies.

Talkie Tuesday: The Mandalorian

"This is the way.

Hello everyone!

If you're looking at the poster image of tonight's blog post and thinking to yourself 'oh man, this looks cool!' ... I will agree with you.

Because it IS cool.

When the show premiered in 2019 there was a lot of anticipation riding on its shoulders because of all the discourse surrounding Star Wars, Disney, and the Sequel Trilogy. I won't be getting into that in this post, but suffice to say fans were skeptical, thinking that they would once again be let down.

And then Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni delivered.

They delivered BIG TIME.

With 2020 being the way it was, I suppose it would be fair to assume that, well, we needed something as good as this. We really, truly needed to lose ourselves in a galaxy far, far away.

And season two of the critically acclaimed show The Mandalorian came and went with a bang.

Tome Thursday: Kenobi

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to a galaxy far, far away!

I'll admit that I sometimes need to take minor breaks in between reading genres, because on occasion they can become too much. This is what happened with my interest in the Star Wars books franchise, because I had pretty much gobbled down at least four or five books in a row, and then felt like I needed a bit of a breather.

So that was what I did.

And eventually picked up the one book I was probably, almost THE most excited about.

Okay it's a toss between this one and the one about Padmé. They're pretty much my favourite characters from the entire saga.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a character that links both the Prequel and the Original trilogies, the bridge we need to understand just what happened and how things connect. Sure the villains are also there - but it's Kenobi that a lot of people connect with the most.

So the book titled directly after him is obviously a must-read.

Tome Thursday: The Last Command

Hello everyone!

Well, against overwelmind odds, I made it.

I honestly thought I was going to have to push this week's book post back a little because I'm currently neck-deep in a book translation, but apparently my brain can only take so much actual translating and I needed occasional breaks.

This meant jumping into hyperspace whenever I could.

And to be fair I think I ran through this book in three sittings, maybe four.

This brings me to an end of a trilogy which I'm super excited about because I often start reading a series and then it sort of falls by the wayside, and a year or so later I'm there like OH CRUD I SHOULD HAVE READ THIS ON.

Yeah, I'm like that.

But now enough about me, and more about what's happening across the stars.

The Last Command is calling for attention.

Tome Thursday: Dark Force Rising

Hello everyone!

Back again with another book blog, and I'm continuing with the theme I began last Thursday since even my Tuesday blog was related.

Then again, Star Wars has this thing about it. Once it sucks you in, you're a goner!

I really have to thank my good friend Steven for this, because honestly, I'd been eyeballing the Expanded Universe lists for years but never actually got around to it, and then somehow by random accident there was a developing conversation on one of his Facebook status updates, I think, and in the end I walked out of it with not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR Star Wars books to get me started!

Last week I started talking about the Thrawn Trilogy with its first installment, so naturally it's time to go in with book number two now.

I mean, that's the usual, right? One, two, three.

Besides, with these books, you literally wouldn't have a clue what's going on if you didn't read the previous before it.

So let's stop talking shop and let's start talking Dark Force Rising.

Tome Thursday: Heir to the Empire

Hello everyone!

I was planning on doing a different book review this week as I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to finish the one I'd started reading during the previous weekend, but lo and behold, that seems to not be the case as I suddenly stumbled over the ending yesterday!

I hadn't been anticipating it, honestly.

When my e-reader tells me I have about 30% more of a book to read, I actually expect a hell of a lot more story to go along with it.

But at around 71% I suddenly found myself with the ending, and a 'to be continued' sticker and I was just there like ... wait, what?

So this does mean, however, that I can actually give you the original review I wanted, and not worry about pulling another book out from some sort of deep well!

It's time we all brushed up on our lightsaber skills, people.

We're headed into a galaxy far, far away, this time with the Heir to the Empire.

Tome Thursday: Shadows of the Empire

Hello everyone!

So a little while ago I did a blog post which only featured one image - and that was one for a trilogy of the Star Wars Expanded Universe books.

I've since learned that these books cover not only the post-original trilogy but also the era of the Old Republic, which is pre-prequel trilogy, and pretty much everything in between. I mean, I have this amazing friend who gives me all the timelines and titles so there's that.

Yup, I'm blessed.

But anyway, said friend DID recommend where I should actually start reading, and while my inner OCD beast is snarling that it wasn't with the chronologically first book, I'm pretty happy I read the book I did!

Because really, it was the best ever stepping stone into the universe.

It had everything - humour, characters we know and love, action, and some more humour!

I'm talking about Shadows of the Empire.
