Talkie Tuesday: Star Wars Celebration 2022

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ..."

Hello there!

Bet you didn't see this one coming, did you?

In favour of the very simple fact that it was almost literally Star Wars week going from last week to this one, and because I'd basically been streaming the news and keeping tabs on it pretty much all weekend, I decided to skip the traditional movie review.

Instead, I'm going to be chatting (briefly) about what happened over this past weekend, or what we KNOW happened, because there's bound to be stuff in the background that we have no clue about either.

And you know me - I'm a Star Wars fan, have been since the Prequels.

Also, you already know I'm going to say the Prequels are AWESOME. Your argument is invalid to me, because those were the movies I grew up with.

So without further ado, it's time to dig up our lightsabers from wherever we buried them (middle of the desert included), grab our astromech droids and head on out among the stars.

Because the Star Wars Celebration just happened, guys, and it was AMAZING.

Tome Thursday: The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Hello everyone!

So I really can't believe I haven't put this book up among my reviews yet, or that it took me so long to read it again.

I remember reading it for the first time YEARS ago, when I was probably too young to really understand it (appreciation isn't something we'll be talking about), so I'm thankful I found a nice copy in my local bookstore so that I could sit through it.

And by sit I mean SUFFER through it for more days than it should take to read a book that short.

I don't know what it is about this one that appeals to so many people overall, but it definitely did not appeal to me, and I figured, since Tuesday's review was a rant, I might as well make this Thursday one a disappointed sort of post to top it off.

Maybe it's because I'm not in the best frame of mind to truly appreciate this book.

Maybe I should have read it at a different point in my life.

Or maybe I'd always look at it and go ... wut?

Talkie Tuesday: Encanto

"Make your family proud."

Hello everyone!

This week, I'm bringing you the review of what was probably one of the most well-received movies in 2021, and yes, I am once again late with it.

Listen, not having Disney+ or anything Disney-related over here (yet) comes with a step price, okay?

Plus I haven't gone into cinemas to watch a Disney movie since forever ago, and I doubt I'm going to do it again any time soon, either.

So anyway, I'm late, yes yes, we all know this, I usually am, but, here we are!

And we bring the review just the same.

Now fair warning, however: this will be a rant review. I did not like this movie. In fact, I hate it with a passion, which is something new when it comes to Disney releases. So if you're looking for some warm, cuddly, fuzzy feeling, please don't read this and then complain that you didn't get it.

There won't be any. However, let's start with the actual review first, shall we? Encanto, up next.

Tome Thursday: I Close My Eyes

Hello everyone!

A slight departure from my usual reading choices, but I thought that a cute little romp through a Regency novel wouldn't hurt any of us, right?

Right.

Besides, with all the hype around Bridgerton, there's literally an influx of these now.

Not to mention that some are getting much more recognition from the earlier years they were released as well.

This one came to me because it was offered for free through BookBub, yet another service that's absolutely fantastic if you're looking for discounted e-books and more affordable options, and I was intrigued enough, really.

I mean, someone on the road to spinsterhood and a scarred Duke? Yeah, colour me interested.

So without further ado, let's just jump right into it, shall we?

Because I Close My Eyes waits for no one.

Talkie Tuesday: Eurovision 2022

"The Sound of Beauty."

Hello everyone!

A slight departure from my usual blog posts but, I couldn't not at least have a very quick little entry with regards to this weekend's competition.

One would think that we've done this before at some point or other but, it doesn't look it.

Well, there's a first time for everything!

And in case you're wondering, yes, I actually almost always watch the grand final.

It's been a bit since I've watched the semi finals because generally speaking, that's just too many nights in a row for music that isn't as good as it could be (no offense but, it's the truth), so I settle in for the three-to-four hour extravaganza on a Saturday night instead!

Boy, was it one this year.

Was it worth the hype? I'm not entirely sure.

But Eurovision has come and gone, either way.

Synopsis Saturday: This Day

"A dark secret is the foundation of any successful relationship."

Hello everyone!

Yeah, I'm back.

No, I'm not happy about it LOL.

To be clear, I only do it out of morbid curiosity. I never would have subjected myself to this disaster otherwise, and yet, here we are.

VERY obviously you all know what I'm talking about.

I'm not entirely sure how this movie rose up to the Top Ten ranking on Netflix but ... probably boredom? What else is there???

It can't be because of stellar acting or awesome plot. None of that exists.

Could be for funny value though ... I'll give them that much.

There WAS some humour in this.

But overall, This Day, a sequel to the infamous 365 Days, is flatter than a pancake.

Tome Thursday: Kynhaven

Hello everyone!

Did you miss me?

I know I've been a little bit behind this week, and I'm sorry about that - life suddenly got unexpectedly busy and all I could really do was hold on for the ride.

It's FINALLY calmed down enough that I can actually sit and type out a blog post though.

And oh, boy, do I have a good one.

I am SO thankful for picking up the first of Sarah Westill's novels completely on a whim and without knowing what I was getting myself into. I thought I'd be reading some lighthearted romance, but what I got has been so much more.

And so much better, too!

So without further ado, let's not dawdle anymore, shall we?

Because the next book in the saga, Kynhaven, is waiting.

Tome Thursday: Queen's Hope

Hello everyone!

May the Fourth be with you!

Ahem.

Haha, it's actually already the fifth on my end BUT, given that the blog post is only a day late from the actual date of it, I figured a Star Wars-themed book wouldn't be completely off-topic, would it?

So here we are.

When it was announced that there would actually be a third one in this particular lineup, I was very excited.

Mostly because it's about pretty much my favourite character of the galaxy.

However, of the previous two, I only REALLY enjoyed the first one, while the second was floundering a little, or so I felt.

So while I was excited, I was hesitant, and turns out my hesitation proved correct. But let's stop waffling and look at Queen's Hope, shall we?

Outlander: I Am Not Alone

"Sing me a song of a lass that is gone ..."

Hello everyone!

Ugh, we FINALLY made it.

Listen, I have nothing against Outlander. In fact, it's one of my absolute favourite shows, and the cast has wormed its way into my heart and lives there on a permanent basis.

But it's no secret that I haven't been a massive fan of season six.

In fact, this is a season I've loved the least of the lot, despite the fact that there's definitely been questionable choices made back in the day in previous ones.

The problem has to be in its relative shortness, which I know couldn't have been prevented given circumstances - however, coupled with that came what the writers and producers wanted the story to focus on, which didn't help progression any.

When you have books as massive as the Outlander Series, then you need to pick and choose actions and situations which will help you move forward. I'm not convinced that season six managed.

Let's have a quick look at the finale, I Am Not Alone.
