Tome Thursday: Percy Jackson's Greek Gods

Hello everyone!

Boy, what a week!

First off, that cross-over event - Crisis on Earth-X was absolutely spectacularly AMAZING over Monday and Tuesday (or, in my case, with a bit of a delay, on Tuesday and Wednesday). My reveiw of this will be coming on Saturday since I bumped the Talkie Tuesday for just this purpose. After the fun with the Dominators last year (which I was reminded of, very kindly, by my Facebook memories) this year was off-the-charts insane, in all good ways!

But back to books.

I've seriously been reading like some sort of machine on this end, moving through reading slumps like a pro by picking up oldies-goldies, and then of course there was the massive autumn Book Depository order I placed not too long ago.

Once it arrived, can we say happy camper?

Among those books I ordered was the one I'm reviewing tonight: Percy Jackson's Greek Gods.

Tome Thursday: Arctic Fire

Hello everyone!

Okay, full-on confession time: since DIVA's streaming of Christmas movies, I've been literally itching to have at it with my collection of Christmas books.

Yes, I've been making a collection.

It's really bad this year, to be honest. I started making this when it only just hit autumn and the first freebies were going out, but then figured, why not?? And added some more of these. I'm still waiting to find a good copy of a new Woods book in her holiday romances, but apart from that I've also stumbled across a few new writers I want to check out some more.

I mean, I do have at least three book bundles with a minimum of FIFTEEN stories in each. Not full-length novels, of course, but you get what I'm saying.

At the very least, however, tonight's review won't be Christmas-y yet. Because Keira Andrews can absolutely write a romance taking place in the middle of nowhere frozen wasteland that makes you THINK Christmas - but doesn't actually happen then. Arctic Fire is just what the doctor ordered when the hills start painting themselves white.

Talkie Tuesday: The Great Wall

"Kill the Queen - or we all die."

Hello everyone!

I'm making quite a dent in my movie reviews, I've noticed, looking at the ones still waiting on the to be reviewed pile, which makes me quite happy. Plus, I still have a ton of them waiting in the to be watched pile so I'm not even remotely worried about running out of material!

Plus, I've just come to a decision.

As DIVA, or the European version of Hallmark Channel, has been channelling its inner-Christmas Elf since November 6th, I will be doing Christmas movie reviews as soon as December hits. Who knows? I may gather enough of them to be able to do both Tuesday AND Saturday blog posts as reviews!

But anyway.

The movie I picked for tonight is one of Matt Damon's recent ones where, post-Bourne, we try to envision him as something other than a CIA agent gone rogue. The Great Wall might have a lot to show in terms of entertainment, but whether or not it actually delivers anything else ... I'll leave that up to you guys.

Tome Thursday: Kiss and Make Up

Hello everyone!

Trying to pick a book to write about is becoming a bit of a test for me on this end, considering I'm currently in a funk where I keep going back and re-reading stuff I've either already written about or at the very least I've mentioned it somewhere, so new books just ... have to wait.

This does mean I sometimes have to dig a little bit deeper, not that I mind, considering the results are usually pretty fantastic for all it's worth.

And of course, when in doubt, the one thing I can be absolutely sure of is that Serenity Woods will have a fantastic book ready for me, one I haven't yet read, and one that will keep me smiling for a long while after I've put it down.

So here I am tonight with one more from one of my favourite authors of all time, only this one was really more of a shot in the dark for me in terms of why I picked it up (I mean, okay, it's in New Zealand, it's got a handsome Kiwi guy, what more do I need, right?). I can't honestly remember, although maybe it was free in e-form. Who knows?

In any event, let's get into Kiss and Make Up.

Talkie Tuesday: Return of Xander Cage

"I live for this shit."

Hello everyone!

I'm on a Vin Diesel binge it would seem, but I remember that moment when I accidentally saw the trailer for the new Xander Cage movie and thought it looked awesome.

I never got the chance to see the first one in theatre, because, duh, it was years ago and at the time I was not necessarily considered as someone who COULD go to the movies with friends (aka, you know when parents step in with their authority ... yeah, that). This time though, it was Vin Diesel on the big screen in something else but Fast Dom!

And it was rewarding.

People are judging by the fact that everything else seemed to be overshadowed by the big names attached to the film, but me, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I mean, come on, I don't watch Fast and Furious for the reality! Same goes for the XXX movies.

So, without further ado, let's go see what Diesel blew up in XXX Return of Xander Cage.

Talkie Saturday: The Last Witch Hunter

"Do you know what it's like to live forever?"

Hello everyone!

So since this past Tuesday was Halloween I figured I'd give up on trying to post something on my blog not connected to it, but I'd completely forgotten about this movie which has been sitting in my little sheep notebook for a while now.

Of course, had I taken five seconds of my time and noticed Vin Diesel on the cover of the DVD, I might have remembered better.

The Last Witch Hunter isn't the kind of movie that I imagine great, global masses would rave about as they do with some other Diesel films in existence, but as for me I loved it. Whether it was because we got to see Sir Diesel in something else besides him riding or dying in fast cars jumping over submarines, or because Elijah Wood cured my inner wish for seeing more Frodo Baggins, I can't say.

What I can certainly admit to, though, is that I enjoyed the time I spent watching Diesel's character run around on screen as the unstoppable force of nature he always is.

I mean, come on; we all knew this was gonna be a street fight!

Tome Thursday: Origin

Hello everyone!

I think ... no, I'm fairly sure that I've never before reviewed one of Dan Brown's books on my blog.

Let me do a quick search to double-check.

I have not.

BUT I do have the review for the movie Inferno, which is the latest in the Robert Langdon series with Tom Hanks in the titular role, so I'm going to be including the link to that one at the very bottom of this page. And maybe someday I'll be bored enough to actually reread the lot of the books and review them one by one. That job alone would give me food for these posts for two solid months!

Anyway.

Origin, the subject of tonight's post, is the absolute latest of Brown's novels and it once again features professor Robert Langdon doing what he usually does best: solving puzzles people left behind for him.

In this case, we're once again dealing with the Church.
