Talkie Tuesday: Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron

"They say the mustang is the spirit of the West."

Hello everyone!

After so much epic-ness in one place, it's time to scale back just a little and figure out how things used to be done back in the day, at this point well over twenty years ago.

I can't even fathom it to be honest.

This movie released so long ago at this point!

And yet it's still so great.

Now if only I could find the Sinbad one animated online somewhere ...

I digress. Before I head out to the open waters, I have to head back in time to when the Wild West wasn't just a story, but actually a place to be discovered and, for lack of a better word, tamed.

There's plenty of movies about it out there, but this one is near and dear to my heart, because of course it's about horses. It's Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron.

Talkie Tuesday: The Great Wall

"Kill the Queen - or we all die."

Hello everyone!

I'm making quite a dent in my movie reviews, I've noticed, looking at the ones still waiting on the to be reviewed pile, which makes me quite happy. Plus, I still have a ton of them waiting in the to be watched pile so I'm not even remotely worried about running out of material!

Plus, I've just come to a decision.

As DIVA, or the European version of Hallmark Channel, has been channelling its inner-Christmas Elf since November 6th, I will be doing Christmas movie reviews as soon as December hits. Who knows? I may gather enough of them to be able to do both Tuesday AND Saturday blog posts as reviews!

But anyway.

The movie I picked for tonight is one of Matt Damon's recent ones where, post-Bourne, we try to envision him as something other than a CIA agent gone rogue. The Great Wall might have a lot to show in terms of entertainment, but whether or not it actually delivers anything else ... I'll leave that up to you guys.

Talkie Tuesday: Jason Bourne

"Jesus Christ, that's Jason Bourne!"

Hello everyone!

After the blockbuster review from last week which had to do with Star Trek and everything beyond the final frontier, I'm back to slightly more realistic waters.

Well, realistic is a subjective term, either way.

However, I have always been and probably always will be a huge fan of stories which focus on intelligence agencies and their agents around the globe, which is probaby why I haven't yet given up on this Jason Bourne ship, although to be perfectly honest I have never and will never be a complete fan of the movies.

My reasons?

See, I've read the books. And as complex as they are (obviously impossible to bring to the big screen in any kind of coherent way in just a few movies) they are SO much better than the movies could ever be.

But I digress. I said I haven't given up on the Bourne ship yet.

The reason for this is mostly that I enjoy watching Matt Damon act.

Talkie Tuesday: The Martian

"In the face of overwhelming odds, I'm left with only one option:
I'm gonna have to science the shit out of this.
"

Hello everyone!

Back with another movie review, and this time I picked one that I honestly wasn't expecting to like as much as I did in the end. I mean, I try not to go into any movie prejudiced, but sometimes it's hard because you have preconceptions, or you've read the books the movies are based off of, or you've seen the trailer and it doesn't look like something you'd enjoy.

Of course in a lot of the above-mentioned cases, you end up going in the totally opposite direction of what you expected to feel or think when you sat down to watch the chosen movie.

This was what happened to me.

I didn't see a trailer though, or hear about it from a friend, or even read the book. I didn't actually know what it was all about until I got my hands on a copy and sat through the whole thing. I noticed it mostly because the internet kept blowing up with news about it, Matt Damon seemed to be making some kind of a come-back akin to his Jason Bourne movies, and I swear every single one of the Youtube vloggers I subscribe to dedicated at least one video (if not more) to it.

I'm talking about The Martian.
