Tome Thursday: The Bane Chronicles

Hello everyone!

A good friend of mine, who is just as much a devout Shadowhunter fan, convinced me I need to go back and sit to the second trilogy in the Mortal Instruments series, which is how I remembered, because I'm like that, that I had never, in all actuality, finished reading the collection of short stories concerning Magnus Bane.

THAT kicked me into super high gear, because Magnus might just be one of my all-time favourite characters, and coupled with Alec Lightwood it's easy to figure out just why I like him so much.

But he's quite likeable of his own accord, too!

Anyway, I first got into Cassandra Clare's books on a whim after starting Shadowhunters, and deciding I wanted to know more about this world of hers.

Then I realized I'd already read some of her things, those hilarious short diary entries about Lord of the Rings characters, and I fell with gusto on her original writings. I have to say I've enjoyed the lot of them so far even though it shows they were written for YA.

Some of the teenage stuff that happens in the books is ... well.

But with Magnus, there's a whole OTHER set of problems!

Talkie Tuesday: The Last Legion

Hello everyone!

To be perfectly honest, I seem to be bouncing back and forth between genres when watching movies and/or TV shows, because I wanted to actually do a different review today, one about Star Trek, because, hello, I watched Beyond this weekend and YES is all I can say! 

But sadly, I also finished reading a Roman-esque book today and I'm still pretty much under the sway of that particular influence, ergo I went back to find this Roman-inspired movie I had watched waaaay back. I think it was last summer, but in any event, who cares about the when, if I get to them at some point, right?

Anyway.

After finishing Simon Scarrow's Eagle book (number three, to be exact), I fell into the whole Roman craze and dug through my sheep notebook until I found the movie called The Last Legion.

Which, to be honest, I originally watched only because of a book I'd read of the same title, but in the end realised it wasn't even CLOSE, content-wise.

Well, it did have Colin Firth, if nothing else.

Tome Thursday: Blood Vow

Hello everyone!

Right back to the bookish section of my reviews, and I have to say I keep skipping over the reviews I have noted down in my little sheep notebook.

I mean, I'll GET to them. Eventually.

I hope.

But good books keep popping up all over the place! Which means I keep getting distracted and I keep trying to keep up, which is starting to show some wear and tear but I have to admit I'm also doing quite a good job. It pays off to be able to fall asleep reading a book, you definitely get through a lot of them in the evenings.

Anyway, I am right back into the vampire world with this one, because in December I was more than a little bit stoked to see that the new JR Ward book had been published!

I have a long-standing and abiding love for her and her Black Dagger Brotherhood series, so this spin-off was a no-brainer for me. More vampires? More Brothers? Count me the heck IN! Thank you very much.

So, without further ado, let's sink our teeth into Blood Vow.

Talkie Tuesday: Inferno

Hello everyone!

Since Sherlock has now finished, and Game of Thrones hasn't begun yet for me to do my weekly blogs with recaps of it, I'm back to reviewing movies, as per usual. 

Now, I do have quite a backlog it would seem, considering the fact that I keep finding other stuff to write about, which sometimes might feel counter-productive, but believe me, with the amount of things I watch just to relax, it's not actually THAT far-fetched I don't think.

Anyway.

I wanted to watch this movie pretty much as soon as it was announced they were filming it, mostly because I have, in fact, enjoyed reading Dan Brown's books with Robert Langdon as the primary character. Also, I've enjoyed watching Tom Hanks on screen, making sure everybody else around him and those watching wonder about what he was talking about half the time.

And while Inferno sounds like something straight out of Hell, it's actually, in my opinion, a tourist guide to Florence.
