Tome Thursday: Guns of Liberty

Hello everyone!

I'm returning this week with another one of the ARCs I was lucky enough to get from BookSirens, a site where authors and readers come together for a mutual exchange.

I've talked about it a little bit in one of my previous posts, but I feel like I should mention it again because it's honestly SO amazing.

You have this online library, right, which is COMPLETELY FREE, and you can sign up, then start picking out the copies you'd like to read. The only thing you have to keep in mind are the deadlines, because you do get a to-read date with each of the books you choose, but in most cases the average for this is about 90 days.

That's a full three months to read between 200 to 400 pages, which is a pretty fair deal.

You can find anything on there, from contemporary to paranormal, and I've honestly been pretty lucky in my choices so far. Out of the lot I chose, I've only been on the fence about one, and tonight's book isn't that unfortunate soul.

No, tonight, we head out to sea ... or better, air.

Outlander: Between Two Fires

"Isn't this playing God?"

Hello everyone!

Our favourite Sassenach was back in full force this week, so of course we're going to be checking out exactly what she's been up to.

The problem with shows like Outlander is that they only air once a week, which means that you then need to wait ONE FULL WEEK before you can get to the next episode and see what happens after whatever sort of cliffhanger they decide to throw in your direction at the end of the current one.

Naturally, patience is a virtue, but also naturally, it doesn't necessarily come easy.

Still, the wait between episodes one and two is over, because this week, it was all about trying to find our footing in a world that's becoming more and more unsure, and definitely dangerous.

You'll recall that the book, The Fiery Cross, deals with the beginnings of the American Revolution.

Between Two Fires begins to set the stage for just that, so let's take a look at just what happened to all our favourite Frasers and Mackenzies, shall we?

Tome Thursday: Sword of Destiny

Hello everyone!

Returning to a very specific fantasy world based off Slavic folklore, just like I promised two weeks ago (and then got side-tracked, as you do), I am here with another one of Sapkowski's books.

I should also admit that, at this point, the two I've reviewed are the only ones I've read.

Oops?

I'm planning on reading at least the third short story collection, Season of Storms, pretty quickly, but I have a couple of other books I promised to review before I can properly sit down to Blood of Elves.

Yes, yes, I know, our Witcher is an impatient kind of person and he would very much like it everything was reviewed ASAP.

And I'm working on it, I promise.

But when you've got so many other books on your to-read list ... you have to somehow juggle the lot.

I suppose I've become master of the art. For tonight, however, we're back, and Sword of Destiny is our next pit-stop!

Outlander: The Fiery Cross

"The Frasers of the Ridge are here!"

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to another serial on my blog. I wasn't sure if I'd be doing this or not, at least initially, but then I decided why not? This is one of my favourite shows ever, and while I've done random posts connected to it in the past, I'd never really written it episode by episode.

The only show I've ever done it for was Game of Thrones, and I have to admit that it's kind of interesting.

I watch a BUNCH of shows every show season, and somehow the only one who got this coveted spot was HBO's. The others, I've either not done at all or I've covered in one massive post.

The adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's work, however, is much too big and too complex to squeeze into just the one blog post.

Between all the intrigue, history, romance, and hilarity that abounds, Outlander delivers on just about every front you can imagine. So let's see what season 5 has in store for us, shall we?

Tome Thursday: Reaching First

Hello everyone!

I have to admit that I changed my mind about the book I'll be reviewing tonight, seeing as I'm slowly working through the pile of left-overs I have which I started once upon a time, and then never actually finished.

The reasons for that vary, sometimes I simply needed a break from the book, sometimes it all turned south so I just needed to step away and figure out if I even wanted to continue, and sometimes I sort of just let it slide by the wayside ... until I decided it was time to stop that slide while I was at it.

Obviously I remember promising there would be the Sword of Destiny, but I'll get to that. It's one of those books I actually finished in one go.

Tonight, I'm tackling a story that sat there for almost a year since the last time I picked up the compilation of books, and that's saying something.

Then again I've realized that I have a few which I've just sort of left behind, and I don't feel right when that happens.

So for this week, we're returning to the pitch for a little bit, with Reaching First.

Talkie Tuesday: Matching Hearts

"Don't put off being happy."

Hello everyone!

As you know, I have this thing about Hallmark.

As in, I like to watch their movies.

I have, however, found I need to dial back a little and only pick the ones that feature cast I know from previous projects, which may sound limiting given that I'm sure others, of whom I don't know any of the cast, are just as wonderful.

But at some point you just have to draw a line, I guess!

Tonight I'm going to be talking about a new little pet project Hallmark launched just for Valentine's, a series of movies under the title Love Ever After, which only premiered this year as something new they're trying. This includes a full month of Valentine-themed movies for viewers to enjoy.

I won't be doing a full review of ALL four of the movies from the series because, like I said, I kind of need a breather every now and again, but I did tune in to this weekend's choice.

So open up that box of chocolates, because Matching Hearts is up next.

Tome Thursday: The Last Wish

Hello everyone!

I'm currently on a Witcher binge, as you may be able to tell, so naturally the book for tonight is going to be covering the world Sapkowski dreamed up, too.

I should at some point actually sit down and start reading Blood of the Elves, but the thing is, I tend to need a bit of a break between my reads when I'm doing a series, and this one is no different. Especially since there are characters within it that I just can't stand.

On the surface of it, however, the books that launched Geralt of Rivia out into the wide world certainly have a way of drawing the audience in; it's later on when you dig deeper that you may find certain personalities you might wish to generally avoid.

Of course it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be agreeing with me - heck, I already know a lot of people who don't!

Without further ado, then, let's stop chatterboxing about things that aren't important.

The Last Wish wants to be introduced.

Talkie Tuesday: The Witcher

"People linked by destiny will always find each other."

Hello everyone!

You saw this one coming, didn't you.

Didn't you?

Well, hopefully you did, at least, because I've been on a roll with my television season recaps, and this one will definitely be no exception.

I have to admit that I didn't know there were books or video games before news dropped that Netflix was making a show - I know, I live under that kind of rock. But after hearing about the show I went on and explored a little bit, and I've managed to munch through the two short stories collections so that I can now actually begin the main storyline.

I'm also watching the gameplay from the third video game on Youtube, because I'm that lazy and there are other people who've played it.

What am I talking about, you ask?

The Witcher, obviously.
