Talkie Tuesday: Sirens of the Deep

"It takes bravery to stand against a crowd."

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to the Continent.

Or, shall we say, welcome back to Jaskier's world, which Geralt is only living in, and he's mostly disgruntled about it.

When tonight's blog choice was first announced, back in the day, I was super stoked, because Nightmare of the Wolf had been a pretty good addition to The Witcher universe, and it seemed like Netflix was really going to go places with these adaptations.

... of course, then the Henry Cavill thing happened, and one thing led to another, and now I don't know when season 4 is even airing, nor will I be watching it.

But I DID watch this one, because it's an adaptation of a short story that Andrzej Sapkowski wrote, called 'A Little Sacrifice'.

I loved it back then, and I love it even more now, so let's go ahead and have a look at Sirens of the Deep, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: The Witcher

"Never lost, always found."

Hello everyone!

And welcome back!

I know, I know, I literally fell off the face of the planet.

Here's the thing: my keyboard died. Yep, I killed it, and then once I took the laptop in for fixing, Slovenia experienced some truly horrible flooding (think New York current levels) which delayed the repair as the spare parts got lost somewhere in the waters or something.

Then, to top it all off, I started a new job, which took some getting used to (since, while I usually got up at 4.30, I now have to rise at 3.30 if I want to be there when we open at 5!).

BUT suffice to say that we have now persevered, and the trials are over.

Which means we can sit back and have a look at something that's been finished for a while but, I am DETERMINED to have the entire thing which I've covered so far on here, as I won't be continuing with season 4.

Henry Cavill was my Geralt, so one last time: The Witcher.

Thank you for your hard work, Henry.

Talkie Tuesday: The Witcher

"Changing destiny is a weighty business."

Hello everyone!

You knew this was coming.

If you've been paying attention to my blog, you'll know that, apart from the books - and I swear, at some point I'll either continue and/or finish the series or give up on it completely so it isn't in limbo anymore - I've reviewed everything that Netflix has thrown at us so far.

Which of course meant that the third season would ALSO be making its way on here.

And as I have no particular desire nor plan to watch from the ending of that onward (despite the fact the political stuff is turning fascinating enough), I suppose we're nearing the beginning of the end with this swan song.

So let's buckle up then.

The first volume dropped last week, and we have a month before we see the aftermath of all the scheming and manipulations.

The Witcher is back in business, baby.

Talkie Tuesday: Blood Origin

"True sacrifice comes from within."

Hello everyone!

Well if I'd timed this one I might have even posted it almost exactly to the day when the series was released, and wouldn't that be timing on my part?

But as it happened, I wanted to talk about it tonight.

And boy, do I have things to say to people.

Particularly because it feels like things that aren't as bad as everyone make them seem are getting review-bombed all over the place.

Not to mention all this woke going around ... I'm sorry, who gave anyone else the right to tell other people what they should or shouldn't like?

This world is going crazy, I'm telling you, if it isn't already halfway or more than halfway there.

Anyway, before I go completely on a tangent, I suppose I should actually start talking about the topic of tonight's blog post.

The Witcher: Blood Origin was a Christmas gift, and to me it keeps on giving.

Talkie Tuesday: The Witcher

 "Destiny alone isn't sufficient.

Hello everyone!

Hopefully you've enjoyed catching up on things now that the new year is well and truly underway.

And of course, we mustn't forget the fact that there were quite a few shows that debuted right at the tail end of 2021 which haven't had spotlit here yet.

I had loads of fun talking about The Wheel of Time last week, but in doing so I needed to push back one other that I literally devoured within three or four days.

See, with WoT, I took my time and I allowed for breaks and whatnot; I didn't take any of that for the second.

I even took a break from EVERYTHING ELSE I was watching just to make sure I was all caught up and had gone through it all!

So without further ado, toss a coin if you can, aye? The Witcher season two is here.

Talkie Tuesday: Nightmare of the Wolf

"A witcher never hesitates."

Hello everyone!

Back for another week of blog posts and as per usual I'm just a little bit late to the band wagon on this one, but hey, not AS late as I would usually be!

It's only a week or so, give or take this time.

Anyway, in case you haven't been paying attention, The Witcher has taken the world by storm both by the professionals portraying the characters in the show, the characters themselves, and the story from under the pen of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

With the heightened awareness that season two is dropping towards the end of this year, Netflix then went on to announce a few spin-offs, both in television show and movie format, and the movie dropped first.

Well, anime movie I should say, as it was in anime style.

Either way, it definitely dropped at the end of August, and people seem to be giving out mixed vibes about it.

But The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, is here and rearing to be seen!

The Last Wish (Booktober)

"People like to invent monsters and monstrosities.

Then they seem less monstrous themselves."

Alright so I COULD have included the entire series in here and just went 'oh read The Witcher' books, but here's the thing: unlike some others, Andrzej Sapkowski's work is a bit of an acquired taste so I suggest you start with what chronologically seems to be the first, which is The Last Wish. After you've finished that, you can decide whether or not you'd like to follow Geralt's adventures further, and trust me, you'll have to make your own decision for sure, as the fandom is definitely split, especially now that there's a television show thrown in the mix. But overall, if you like a darker interpretation of fairytales and want to imagine Henry Cavill traipsing around the countryside dealing with problems, this is the book for you!

Geralt the Witcher—revered and hated—is a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin. Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent. But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good ... and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth ...

Tome Thursday: Sword of Destiny

Hello everyone!

Returning to a very specific fantasy world based off Slavic folklore, just like I promised two weeks ago (and then got side-tracked, as you do), I am here with another one of Sapkowski's books.

I should also admit that, at this point, the two I've reviewed are the only ones I've read.

Oops?

I'm planning on reading at least the third short story collection, Season of Storms, pretty quickly, but I have a couple of other books I promised to review before I can properly sit down to Blood of Elves.

Yes, yes, I know, our Witcher is an impatient kind of person and he would very much like it everything was reviewed ASAP.

And I'm working on it, I promise.

But when you've got so many other books on your to-read list ... you have to somehow juggle the lot.

I suppose I've become master of the art. For tonight, however, we're back, and Sword of Destiny is our next pit-stop!

Tome Thursday: The Last Wish

Hello everyone!

I'm currently on a Witcher binge, as you may be able to tell, so naturally the book for tonight is going to be covering the world Sapkowski dreamed up, too.

I should at some point actually sit down and start reading Blood of the Elves, but the thing is, I tend to need a bit of a break between my reads when I'm doing a series, and this one is no different. Especially since there are characters within it that I just can't stand.

On the surface of it, however, the books that launched Geralt of Rivia out into the wide world certainly have a way of drawing the audience in; it's later on when you dig deeper that you may find certain personalities you might wish to generally avoid.

Of course it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be agreeing with me - heck, I already know a lot of people who don't!

Without further ado, then, let's stop chatterboxing about things that aren't important.

The Last Wish wants to be introduced.

Talkie Tuesday: The Witcher

"People linked by destiny will always find each other."

Hello everyone!

You saw this one coming, didn't you.

Didn't you?

Well, hopefully you did, at least, because I've been on a roll with my television season recaps, and this one will definitely be no exception.

I have to admit that I didn't know there were books or video games before news dropped that Netflix was making a show - I know, I live under that kind of rock. But after hearing about the show I went on and explored a little bit, and I've managed to munch through the two short stories collections so that I can now actually begin the main storyline.

I'm also watching the gameplay from the third video game on Youtube, because I'm that lazy and there are other people who've played it.

What am I talking about, you ask?

The Witcher, obviously.
