"Dictatorship cannot replace democracy."
Hello everyone!
Tonight's movie of choice FINALLY completes my journey into the YRF Spyverse, until such a time as I can get my hands on ALPHA, the newest installment.
I'm working on it, okay. These things take time!
But I sat down to watch the third in the Tiger-centered movies while I was on vacation at the seaside this year, and I have to admit I honestly always forget just how much FUN these movies are.
I mean, are they factually accurate all the time? No.
Do they generally make me laugh and roll my eyes at the antics of the protagonists, as well as overall amuse me throughout? Yep.
In the end, that's all that matters, isn't it?
So without further ado: Tiger 3!
So after meeting the love of his life, going on the run, and then coming back a few times on the call of Mother India, Tiger (Khan) is living his best life in middle-of-nowhere Austria.
Of all the places he and Zoya (Kaif) picked, it was AUSTRIA? IDK man, LOL.
But anyway, he's contacted to go find an old acquaintance of his in Afghanistan, where Gopi got himself caught and badly tortured. I should probably call him guppy at this point, but in any event, Tiger makes his grand entrance, drives a motorcycle all over the place, and hangs off a helicopter after getting guppy - I mean, Gopi - away to safety.
Except Gopi has an expiration date that so happens to tie along with his first aerial view of India, though he doesn't croak until letting Tiger in on a little secret: the Pakistanis have a double agent in play.
Her name is Zoya.
Yes, THE Zoya, Tiger's wife and mother of his child, who left ISI when Tiger left RAW, but apparently she's still doing their dirty work? Tiger can't believe it, and he won't believe it even if Guppy died for the knowledge, and spying on her brings him no new info (probably because, spoiler alert, Zoya is a better spy than he is as he never even clocked her in the first movie, and she's been in the ISI since she was a young teen after her father died in a car bomb blast).
Then, as RAW tasks him to protect an arms dealer who Guppy was working with, he runs into a motorcyclist trying to kill the dude, and the cyclist turns out to be Zoya.
After getting a bonk on the head for his efforts and waking up to see what's what, Tiger learns that Zoya hasn't been doing all this out of the blackness of her heart, oh no.
Her former mentor, Aatish, injected the couple's son with poison to coerce her, and he's got a big ass masterplan going, for which he needs missile launch codes from the Turkish military in Istanbul. Once he has THOSE, he'll give them back their son.
Why's he using them, and on a quest for vengeance, you ask?
Because the idiot decided, while still high up in the ISI, that he was going to do his best to derail any peace attempts between India and Pakistan, as megalomaniacs do who think a spit of land can conquer a full ass continent; Zoya ratted him out to Tiger, not knowing she dialed his specific room, just that she needed a RAW agent to hear all the delulu coming from her mentor.
Essentially, she butt-dialed Tiger before she even met him, and THAT's a story to tell your grandkids someday!
Anyway, because Zoya backed out of the plan, Aatish's pregnant wife decided she was gonna go ahead with the assassination that would derail everything, but because Tiger heard it all, he took her out of the equation. Aatish got himself disgracefully kicked from the ISI, and has been plotting revenge ever since.
Now, with a little help from some of Tiger's old RAW mates, they get to the briefcase, giving Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible a run for their money, but even as Zoya takes the case to exchange it for Junior, Tiger holds off the police, gets himself arrested, and lands in prison.
Seeing as RAW categorically dislikes having their best agents all caged up, however, they send him a saviour.
By the time a little Bluetooth speaker rolls inbetween Tiger and his guards, that aura farming move alone tells you it can only be one man: Pathaan, aka Shah Rukh Khan, who manages to save Tiger, get pissed off that the guards are totally ruining his beautiful runaway plan, and keeps the parachute they both use to finally float away after a glorious bridge battle that had me cackling from start to finish.
The fact that Tiger makes fun of Pathaan's long hair is just a bonus.
With Zoya having reconvened with RAW AND ISI both, agents tracking them all down, they sit and videochat with Tiger who's with his and Zoya's adopted boy, Hassan. They all know Aatish is BAD news, so they travel to Islamabad to meet up, learn that Aatish and the Pakistani military are planning to assassinate the Prime Minister, Irani, and decide welp, that can't happen on their watch.
They hightail over there to rescue her, because Aatish plans on taking her out very publicly, and while she's escorted into the bunker the PMO has, the confrontation ensues.
Viewers get the shock of their lives when Javed, one of the ISI agents, betrays the group (and ohmygod the killing they hear over their mics is ... brutal), and Aatish thinks he has the upper hand.
Only, by the time Hassan sacrifices himself to buy Zoya and Tiger time, they turn the tables on him.
See, THEY knew about Javed. They'd searched everyone's phones as a precaution, and figured out he's Aatish's brother-in-law. Zoya gets the honour of sending him to hell, while Tiger kills Aatish, after explaining that idiots like him, trying to establish a dictatorship, will never, EVER win.
And oh also? His old mentor, who just so happens to be Zoya's late father? Yeah, he was fighting for PEACE, and wouldn't have signed off on ANY of this.
Sayonara, asshole.
With the threat over, Irani exposes the entire thing to the world, thus proving Tiger and Zoya's innocence (among other things), as well as hoping for a better relationship between India and Pakistan moving forward. Tiger promises his boss he'll always be around to help India, and then he and Zoya go back to their Bavarian life.
MEANWHILE, Colonel Luthra (he of WAR fame), assigns a task to kill an unidentified enemy to the one and only Major Kabir Dhaliwal (Roshan) in the post-credits scene, and you can tell how out of order I've been watching these movies just from that alone. LOL.
But that's where we leave all of these guys! There's still plenty to come from the spyverse, as far as internet chatter goes, and honestly people WILL still go and see these movies with big names like Salman Khan, SRK and Hrithik Roshan attached. It's basically a given. So we can assume there WILL be more, without a doubt!
And as for Tiger 3, while Tiger isn't one of my favourite characters of this series, it's still very entertaining to watch and definitely takes your mind off things while you do. The action is intense, the humour is on point, and the actors portraying the characters shine. I'm still mourning the death of poor Captain Abrar, he was such a good side-character!
I highly recommend you have a look at these movies yourself; I guarantee you'll find at least one you'll genuinely enjoy and take great pleasure in.
Until next time!
xx
