Tome Thursday: Billionaire Bodyguard

Hello everyone!

Usually, I will try and steer clear from writing blog posts about romance books. At least, the kind of romance books where you know there's going to be drama, and miscommunication, and drama, and back and forth he loves me-he loves me not, and drama ...

You see what I mean.

But I've been making my way through a bundle of books connected to bodyguards and their charges and generally feeling as if I was actually making a dent in it.

Then I had to chew through Billionaire Bodyguard, the first in a series of books by Kristi Avalon, and figured, this is something I have to rant about, really.

Now I have nothing against the romance genre, or even the bodyguard/charge romance. Honestly, I've liked some of these I've read, and I don't mind most of them if they're done right. Namely, they need to have some rhyme and reason.

Hello everyone!

This is me touching base with my last movie review for the foreseeable future this week, as next week begins the marathon that is Game of Thrones! 

That's right, the new season premieres this coming Sunday so you can definitely expect blog posts related to the relevant episodes every Tuesday until after the season end, at which point I'll go back to movies and the usual reviews.

For today, however, what I'm going to talk about is a movie most of you have probably already seen, or you've read the book, or maybe you're like me and are super late to this train.

I'm talking about Me Before You.

Which, admittedly, had its hype a while ago really, but for some reason I never did get to it, or into it, before heading to the coast for a mini vacation this last time.

Tome Thursday: Third Daughter

Hello everyone!

It's back to books, and I keep picking up new ones in my Kobo library. As I've said once or twice before, what happens with major retailers is that they will sometimes offer the first one in a given series for free, maybe at the author's wish or with the author's cooperation, so that reviews can be posted and some sort of reaction given before you want (or don't want, depending) to continue reading the entire thing.

This was how I happened upon Susan Kaye Quinn's Third Daughter.

I'll admit, as much as I usually DON'T go for the covers, this one intrigued me since not that many stories even happen in an Indian setting, or if they do, they don't really say much about the culture to begin with, so you could really be anywhere at all.

I was hopeful when I picked this up - a supposed mix of a sort of medieval/Indian/steampunk romance and mystery - that it wouldn't be the case here.

The end result was sort of ... a mix and match, actually.

Talkie Tuesday: Power Rangers

"It's morphin time."

Hello everyone!

I sincerely hope you're all enjoying the summer weather, wherever you are. I know, I know, it's hot, but then again this is what summer is supposed to be all about, right? 

Besides, sooner than we know it, we'll be right back to dismal, rainy muck.

And then of course everyone's going to complain about no more summer!

But anyway, I digress.

My movie choice for tonight was one of those gambles I took, and a good friend of mine could confirm it since I spoke to her about it all right before I sat down to watch said movie. I mean, I HAVE learned by now that trusting IMDB ratings as opposed to my own opinion isn't necessarily the best thing I could possibly do (because usually, if a movie has a low rating it doesn't mean I won't like it), but with all the OTHER reviews floating about, I was hesitant. Then I was relieved I watched.

I'm talking, naturally, about the new Power Rangers movie.

Tome Thursday: Provoked

Hello everyone!

Back with my regular book blog, and I've decided not to pick Testament for this one just yet. Maybe next week, when I've had some time to untangle all the threads that got connected and twirled in my head after reading it.

Instead, the book I've picked for tonight is slightly different in the sense that it's an MM romance. Meaning, both the heroes are male.

Let me tell you, I never would have pegged myself for someone who'd enjoy reading these books, but somehow or other I managed to fall into the genre and, provided that the author knows what they're doing, the books are just as enjoyable as what you'd call "regular" romance books.

The added allure of tonight's tome also came from the fact that it's written during a historic period when such a thing was prosecuted, illegal, and more than a little bit dangerous.

But hey, it all adds to the fun of it! Ergo, let's sink our claws into Provoked, by Joanna Chambers.
