Tome Thursday: Forest of the Pygmies

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the final installment of this three-week journey, which began back in the Amazon, stretched across to the Himalayas, and is now coming home to roost on the continent of Africa.

Isabel Allende really did a magnificent job with her trilogy, and I, for one, am definitely here for it.

Besides, this is the last "normal" book, shall we say, before the Christmas countdown begins on this blog.

Yes, just like every year, I'll be reviewing all things Christmas, with any and all influences coming my way! So for the time being, say goodbye to anything that DOESN'T have those gingerbread cookies and candy canes in it.

Meanwhile, however, hit pause on it just long enough to read through this blog post, won't you?

Because this journey to Africa is kind of important.

Especially because it's the last book in the trilogy.

Without further ado, let's dive right into Forest of the Pygmies.

Talkie Tuesday: Aladdin

"A whole new world ..."

Hello everyone!

I can't believe I've never talked about this movie on my blog.

To be fair, however, I'm looking back through ALL my blogs, and somehow, not many of the classic animations even made it on here?!

I've apparently been sleeping on these!

Dishonour on my cow LOL.

ANYWAY.

Without further ado, let's go change that right up, shall we? Just like they say in the opening song:

Come on down, stop on by, hop a carpet and fly to another Arabian night!

And this time, it'll be a hot one, because it's going to be with this street rat named Aladdin.

Tome Thursday: Kingdom of the Golden Dragon

Hello everyone!

And welcome back.

Like I said last Thursday, this November we're travelling through the adventures of two teenagers that basically did a roundabout tour around the world across three different continents, found adventure and danger along the way, and eventually ended up becoming the very best versions of themselves!

And the best part?

As far as I know, there's absolutely no sequel to this trilogy, as in, Isabel Allende didn't go and write about Alex and Nadia in their adult years, rather keeping the magic alive by wrapping it all up in a neat bow when they're just on the cusp of adulthood.

That's what I like. I'm not a huge fan of suddenly reading 'oh, you know that thing you loved when you were younger? Welp, it's all gone now because real life and realism got a hold of it and ruined it'.

Anyway. Enough with me yapping.

It's time for another trip, and this time it won't be into any warm climate whatsoever.

This time, we're scaling mountains in Kingdom of the Golden Dragon.

Talkie Tuesday: Cinderella

"A dream is a wish your heart makes."

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the review of a movie I swore, back in the day, I'd never do.

Times change, however.

Because I honestly can't remember if I've ever even seen this one before, though I think I must have. I mean, I've seen pretty much all the major OG titles Disney released back in the day, back when their movies were actually still GOOD (occasionally problematic, but certainly good in animated execution).

So I decided, what the heck, I might as well do it now, right?

Because, like I said, times change, and so do the people with them.

I certainly never expected to actually enjoy the movie as much as I did, because originally I said the princess was a waste, waiting and pining. Turns out she's a little bit more than that, but that's alright, that's what we're here for: to live and learn.

Without further ado: Cinderella.

Tome Thursday: City of the Beasts

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to the book side of this blog, where we pick and choose books that either suit a niche to a T, or we strike out into the wild and try to figure out what kind of chaos we just walked into.

Tonight's choice is an OLD one.

Like, at least twenty years old.

I first read these books when I was about the age of the protagonists within them, so I suppose I definitely felt a certain way about the story as a whole, but now that I'm older, I wanted to sit down and have another go at them to see just what, if anything, I might see differently.

... Also, I just wanted to go back into some awesome writing.

Without further ado, let's just hop straight into it, shall we?

Make sure you've got your passport and you've gotten all your shots, because we're headed down the Amazon river and meeting some very, very indigenous peoples.

Then we're swerving right into City of the Beasts.

Talkie Tuesday: Robin Hood

"Oo-de-lally!"

Hello everyone!

Welcome to tonight's blog post.

And I really, truly hope you enjoy the choice I made.

I mean, what's there not to like, though?

At some point, we all go nostalgic over what used to be, and this is DEFINITELY one of those that used to be.

Plus it's just really, really good. I think someone once said somewhere that Robin Hood is one of those stories with too many iterations to count, but the best one is still the one in which Prince John is a lion and his side-kick is a snake.

So I'm looking into this one tonight,

Grab your hats and your bows, and let's get on with Disney's Robin Hood!

Tome Thursday: Breed for the Beast

Hello everyone!

Hear me out.

Before you roll your eyes, scoff, and close the window down because of just what the title of this book is, let me try and sell it to you first.

I promise, it's actually a hell of a lot better than what it sounds.

It does, of course, also have them sexy, smutty scenes, and there's a list of kinks and warnings right at the beginning of it, HOWEVER.

Like I mentioned previously, but going through these Irish mafia books, the plot keeps thickening and actually gaining momentum more than the characters having sex does.

I'd never have believed it if I didn't read it for myself, and the only reason I actually kept reading was because there keeps being more plot padding added to the stories.

This one's got the best of all so far, actually.

So why don't you stick along for the ride with Breed for the Beast?

Talkie Tuesday: WAR 2

"Death before dishonour. Service before self. India First. Jai Hind!"

Hello everyone!

As promised, welcome to the second week of our Bollywood action extravaganza.

Like I said in last Tuesday's post, I definitely took the time to sit down and watch the sequel to WAR, because, well, when Netflix decides to upload it to their streaming services, there's just no saying no.

... I do have a bone to pick, however.

They didn't have WAR up there when I was looking for it to watch the first time!

Now, they released the sequel first, THEN uploaded the first one?!?

I swear, make it make sense!

I suppose, if the sequel generated enough views and garnered enough momentum, they'd consider putting the first one up as well to see how it does, which is kind of funny, as the second wasn't as much of a success as the first.

But without further ado: it's time to fight another war, with lots of class, and lots of sass, because our favourite rogue agent Kabir is back, in WAR 2.
