Tome Thursday: Mockingjay

Hello everyone!

And just like that, as the Pokemon trainers say - we caught them all!

LOL.

I'm actually pretty pleased with myself about this given the fact that I would normally take much longer breaks between reading a series, and this one I practically breezed through for some reason.

I must have really enjoyed reading about this weird ass future then!

But they're all here now, all three books, and all four movies, and nothing has ever felt as good as finishing something up like this.

Besides, it's taken us long enough, given everything, considering it would be three weeks to get it all done and all written up. Now that it's over and done with I can figure out my next book to read that maybe ISN'T all about gladiator-style games while I'm at it.

Before any of that, however, it's time to head back to Panem one last time.

Mockingjay has arrived, people, and she's ready to fly.

Talkie Tuesday: Catching Fire

"Nobody ever wins the Games."

Hello everyone!

With this blog post I will finally have every single movie of this franchise written up and reviewed on the blog. This is an exciting day!

Well, exciting in the sense that this is one mission accomplished at least, if nothing else.

The one thing that usually bugs me to no end is when I have to sort of hit pause midway through, but I didn't even realize that I only had the last two movies for this one.

In any event, we are now headed into the sequel of last week's blog choice.

As you may have noticed, I've fallen into the dystopian future reading hole at the moment, as I'm also debating maybe reading Divergent again at some point or other, but for the most part I wanted to see whether or not I would still dislike this trilogy as much as I did back then.

Turns out I don't. I actually really like it.

That doesn't mean Catching Fire is the best movie ever, but it IS good!

Tome Thursday: Catching Fire

Hello everyone!

And welcome back to the insanity that is getting chosen to fight in a gladiator-style arena with 23 other people so that some other people are entertained.

I'm back with part two of the Hunger Games saga this week to check on Katniss Everdeen and what's been going on in her life.

Because you know it'll be insane, simply because if can be.

See when you live in such a dystopian world that children get picked from a crowd and their parents don't really have the moxy to stop it from happening, you know it's a different level of messed up, and by different I mean completely different.

So you thought you'd seen it all in book one? Well I have news for you my friends.

The crazy is only just beginning.

Katniss is back, and while I can't say she's better than ever, at the very least she's here and hasn't succumbed to drink or anything like that.

Catching Fire takes us one step closer to the grand finale, so here we go!

Talkie Tuesday: The Hunger Games

"And may the odds be ever in your favour."

Hello everyone!

Yes, I've fallen into a dark hole with this. No, I don't really feel like apologizing.

LOL.

I don't really know why I'm so into this series right now, considering everything, but it looks as though I'm going to go through the rest of the books and movies I don't have on the blog yet (I'm missing both the remaining books and one more movie) so I mean, fun I guess?

There's always fun to be had when you have big blockbuster movies like that.

But I will say I've definitely remembered why I liked these movies as opposed to some others (looking at you, Divergent), as they follow the books pretty closely and make actual adaptations not 'based off of' kind of flicks.

The difference is pretty massive, depending on what explanation you're going for.

As this adaptation knows what it's doing, however, let's just jump right into The Hunger Games!

Tome Thursday: The Hunger Games

Hello everyone!

I'm going to be throwing it back, way back, with the book I picked for tonight's blog post.

And by back I mean at least 10+ years.

Why, you ask?

I've no clue.

At one point a week ago I woke up and I wanted to go back and read this to see what it was about the book that I disliked the first time around when I picked it up. I distinctly remember saying at one point I prefer the Divergent series to this one, so apparently that's my next stop for comparison.

I'm guessing it has to do with the protagonist, but we'll see.

For the time being, our book of the night really doesn't need all that much introduction.

If you were ever interested in the Romans throwing their gladiator games, only they're organized with children this time, then The Hunger Games is the book for you.

Talkie Tuesday: South Beach Love

"Sometimes two ingredients may not look like they go together,

but just give it a chance and it might surprise you."

Hello everyone!

As we move further and further into autumn (we'll be transitioning into daylight saving time soon!) I find myself eyeing Hallmark's movie schedule more and more, because lo and behold they're headed right into Christmas-ville already.

I can understand them, in a way. That particular holiday makes up about half of their yearly production and they need to make sure everything they make gets out to the audience.

But come ON. Starting mid-October and never really having any Halloween movies is a bit much, even for Hallmark!

Still, it is what it is, and maybe at that point I'll end up watching other movies instead of what they have in their lineup, because as of right now I still make sure to double check the schedule and then work through if I want or don't want to watch it.

Tonight's topic was on the want to watch list because of the two leads, and I have to say I'm not regretting it, but there were definitely some interesting choices made in the movie.

South Beach Love, coming up!

Tome Thursday: Long Winter

Hello everyone!

So I had a plan for this week's blog post and figured I'd follow it to the letter, until the moment I picked up a very random e-book on my Kobo reader ... and the plan went right out the window.

As far as things go, my plans often don't stick, this is the truth of it.

I just read too much!

And this particular book went and managed to break my heart, which was just as well after the disappointment that the book previous to that one managed to dredge up.

Sometimes, I swear, I manage to pick up the most ridiculous books to read, but thankfully tonight's topic isn't one of them.

No, tonight's one is just so beautiful and heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time, I can't even begin. I'm going to have to though, as the intro is getting long and I bet you'd all just want to jump straight into the post from here on out.

So without further ado, I present to you: Long Winter!

Talkie Tuesday: LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ...

Hello everyone!

Ready for spooky season?

Disney wants you to be!

And Disney has also figured out that these one-off, LEGO-inspired specials seem to be going down super well with their audiences, which I'm totally on board with.

They're a whole boatload of fun!

If you'll remember, there was a holiday special last year right before Christmas time, but this year they decided to go for the haunted version of it and make something that might give viewers a chance to enjoy Halloween before it arrives.

I mean, Poe Dameron crash-landing on Mustafar? Can you IMAGINE the chaos???

Well, you don't have to imagine any more, not really, because we're taking a look at the LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales tonight, and Poe just happens to be our star!
