Tome Thursday: When Comes the Spring

Hello everyone!

I return with another Canadian West novel review because I've just been going through them recently one more time (I blame Hallmark entirely).

I'll hopefully be able to get all four of the first books up sooner rather than later. I know there are six, there were two other books added to the series which cover a time I think twenty years after the originals are set, but I was never a big fan of those and prefer the main group which focuses on Elizabeth and Wynn.

After all, at its core and as an underlying message, these books are about a schoolteacher and a Mountie.

It's what made me fall in love with them in the first place!

I will say, though, that reading them again certainly does bring different things in perspective now that I'm a bit older ... and I wanted to smack the main character every once in a while.

Maybe I'm just too hasty though, you never know.

In any event, let's stop my babbling and have a look at exactly what I'm talking about.

Talkie Tuesday: Prodigal Son

"I am not my father."

Hello everyone!

This week, instead of a movie, I'll be talking about a show that's become very near and dear to my heart over the past two years of it airing.

Most especially since FOX decided to cancel it after it's second season run.

Looking at the statistics alone that wouldn't be completely shocking if not for the fact this is a predominantly GOOD show, very character driven, with some absolutely stellar acting from an ensemble cast with a lot of plotlines still to tell, and stories that would have kept us on the edge of our seat.

But alas, it looks like that might not come to pass no matter how much we, the fans - called Prodigies - may want it.

Hot on the heels of news that SEAL Team is moving to Paramount+, it's becoming rather clear that networks seem to prefer cheap reality shows to good scripted drama, and people are beginning to take notice - and complain.

Who knows? Maybe someday this might make a difference. For the time being though, Prodigal Son has been axed.

Tome Thursday: The Irresistible Billionaire

Hello everyone!

Bet you didn't see this one coming.

Well, or you did and you're currently just shaking your head, smiling at your computer screens.

As you know - or if you don't, you're about to find out - I've been lucky enough to become a member of the Kiwi Birds ARC team, which is the team of people who get book copies from Serenity Woods in advance and then also leave reviews in advance so that others who are contemplating whether or not to buy the book might be persuaded.

Which means that I definitely end up with a new and exciting title to review on this blog every once in a while.

It's no different tonight either!

Despite venturing into cozy paranormal mysteries, Ms Woods remains one of the most beloved contemporary romance authors, and definitely my favourite either way you look at it.

So for her to announce a new contemporary series is a special treat.

And the introduction, The Irresistible Billionaire, is even better!

Talkie Tuesday: Sweet Carolina

"Sometimes things don't go as planned."

Hello everyone!

So as you know, my general interest in Hallmark channel movies tends to show its face every once in a while because, really, as if I don't have OTHER movies I have yet to catch up on.

Sure I do.

Hallmark is just conveniently right there all the time.

To be fair though I could just not watch some, but that hasn't happened yet and I doubt it will, so here we go yet again.

Tonight's movie is actually the first one I was KINDA okay with overall, which is a spectacular bump upwards from the rest of them this 2021 movie year when they've generally disappointed me thus far for some reason.

And yet not even this one was completely acceptable, at least not to me, but maybe I'm becoming too picky or something.

Sweet Carolina, here we go.

Synopsis Saturday: Selena, the series Pt 2

"Always believe the impossible is always possible."

Hello everyone!

Well, we made it.

As in, if you've watched this show from start to finish at didn't at any point cry buckets or unleash a new river onto this unsuspecting world, you're a wizard.

And not the Harry Potter kind.

Netflix really hit it out of the park this year with its series lineup, but most especially with this biographical one, telling the story of the absolute fan favourite Tejano singer who unfortunately had her life tragically cut much too short.

I remember seeing the first part announcement teaser and being super stoked to finish it all up with the second ... until I realized just what that second part would mean.

But I persevered.

So grab your tissues and make sure you have plenty of time.

Because at the end of the day, Selena, the Series is all about love and family.

Tome Thursday: When Calls the Heart

Hello everyone!

In response to this last Sunday's season finale of the Hallmark channel hit series, When Calls the Heart (which I have reviewed frequently enough on this blog, actually, and the current ending of which I'm not entirely happy with), I decided I had to go back and give the original book another re-read, as I hadn't done it in a while.

For those of you who don't know, this is a series of Christian books about a schoolteacher in the Canadian West around the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, who meets and falls in love with a member of the Royal North West Mounted Police.

That was its title at the time, though nowadays they are called Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

I first found the books because I was looking for the author's original series, Love Comes Softly, but ended up getting the others instead, because, Canada.

And since for some reason Hallmark has decided to deviate so strongly away from the original premise, it felt really good to go back in and remind myself why I fell in love with the story in the first place.

After all, a teacher and a Mountie on the frontier sounds like an adventure, doesn't it?

When Calls the Heart has that and a whole lot more.

Tome Thursday: Kiss Me Deadly

Hello everyone!

This week's book is one that I consider to be incredibly funny and entertaining, and one that I loved when I sat down to read the ARC copy I picked up from BookSirens.

Yep, it's that annoying time when I advertise the heck out of this site haha!

BookSirens, if you don't yet know, is an online community for book lovers and writers alike where you can find TONS of great reads for free, sign up to get the ARCs, and then read them by a due date that's generated by the site.

The only thing you need to do is leave a review after you've finished.

I mean, can it get any better than that?!?

Nope.

I tend to have one or two in the works all the time from there because the choices are excellent, and this month's really wasn't an exception either.

Kiss Me Deadly grabbed hold of me with the first sentence and didn't let go.

Talkie Tuesday: SAS Red Notice

"Psychopaths are incapable of love."

Hello everyone!

I have FINALLY stopped to watch this movie, even though technically it's been out in the world for a little bit now and most of the promotionals and reactions have already surfed about the world wide web up until this point.

But I was effectively busy with a lot of other stuff and other reviews until this weekend when I sat down to give it a go.

Now the thing here is that I mostly wanted to watch it for the lead actor, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I did find some of the supporting cast enjoyable to watch as well, but I'll admit that I wouldn't have been too fussed if some of them had been changed around. Either way, the lead was my ticket in, and that's about it!

Then again, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought along those lines lol.

If you've ever looked around the internet, you'll see that fan groups are probably one of the biggest banes in existence if you're not careful. This one at least seems mostly civilized for the time being.

But enough of my chattering! Time to dig into the business of this movie.
