Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Booktober)

"Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love

and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war."

Who hasn't heard about Laini Taylor? If you've checked out her Strange the Dreamer duology, you should also check the trilogy that launched her name into the books. The Daughter of Smoke & Bone series is a must-read during any month of the year, but perhaps especially when it's all foggy outside and you can just imagine some winged creature flying through the mists. Karou and Akiva's story is a story of star-crossed love, magic, loyalty, rebellion - and an alternate look at good and evil that you really shouldn't miss out on.

Romeo and Juliet just got another chance. And they might even make it work!

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war. Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: she loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it. This is a twisted version of a long-ago dream, but with even bigger threats on the horizon, are Karou and Akiva strong enough to stand among the gods and monsters?

Tome Thursday: Dreams of Gods and Monsters

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil pressed their hands to their hearts,
and started the Apocalypse.

Hello everyone!

You know, I'm feeling quite accomplished today. Not taking into account my feeling a bit like a yo-yo in my professional life for a while there (to all good results, before anyone starts asking!) I'm coming to an end of a series of reviews which is ALWAYS satisfactory and cause for celebration. After all, I don't often get to say this.

That's because while I tend to START a series, I kind of forget to keep putting reviews up.

I'm that bad, I know.

And for some reason I sound like Demelza from Poldark right now ... might have to lay off binge watching that one!

Anyway, it's been almost a full year since I posted the very first review of the very first book in the series, and now it's time to come full circle after the second one came along in mid-summer. And I'm insanely proud of myself for achieving as much, really! I think I should group my blog posts somewhere in one place at some point so that people can look them up quickly.

But before I go off-tangent, let's dig right into the review for Dreams of Gods and Monsters!

Tome Thursday: Days of Blood and Starlight

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil held a wishbone between them.
And its snap split the world in two.

Hello everyone!

On occasion when I'm trying to come up with a blog post, I will go and consult my little sheep notebook which I dedicated to random notes and jotting down lines about the stuff I read and/or watch. I don't always use it - sometimes it's all so fresh in my mind I only have to close my eyes to remember what it was all about - but when I'm trying to conjure a blog post about, say, a book I've read a couple months ago, it isn't always as easy as thinking about it.

This book tonight is a prime example of what I'm talking about, because I think it's been at least three months since I sat down to read it.

Now, not sure if any of you will recall, but I did a review about Laini Taylor's first book, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, way back when. I'll be posting a link down below so if you need it, scroll to the bottom of the page, please!

My point being here that I had read and written a blog about book one, but then didn't seem to get around to book two for a little while.

Actually, a long wile. But I finally got my butt into gear, and lo and behold, here is the review for Days of Blood and Starlight!

Tome Thursday: Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love.

It did not end well.

Hello everyone!

Today was spent on a lot of computer de-tox as I spend a whole lot of time behind the small screen and typing and stuff, and my arms sometimes don't agree with me about it at all. Sigh, sad panda over here.

But it turns out I can actually bake apple pie! Which, for a person who hasn't done any cooking at all in her life up until moving to the capital and starting university, is a big deal. I am at war with our oven here at home though because it almost charred it with being way too strong for the settings that were in the recipe, BUT. You win some, you lose some.

Anyway.

Back to blogging, I tweeted yesterday that I had SO MANY book reviews lined up, I actually had to double check I still have enough movies left! I've been reading books left, right and centre, although this particular one happened at the seaside while I was still on vacation, and I can cheerfully say that I read the major part of it sitting at the cafe right next to the sea, listening to the sea gulls, drinking latte and enjoying the salty breeze.
