Tome Thursday: Beauty and the Billionaire Boss

Hello everyone!

As always happens, we return to one of my favourite authors of all time, if not THE favourite, at least in the contemporary romance genre.

Because if it isn't broke, why fix it, right?

Ha!

I tend to truly enjoy reading about good men who have a lot of money but don't turn into assholes about it. When all is said and done, I firmly believe that there's plenty more of those in the world than there are idiots, we just hear about the idiots more often because, well, idioting.

And Serenity Woods likes to even the odds for the good guys by keeping on writing so many good books!

The Boss in a Billion series has been steadily growing and will continue to do so with a third trilogy set in another, different city of New Zealand, so I'm stoked.

Then again, I always am.

Without more blathering from me, let's have a quick look at Beauty and the Billionaire Boss, shall we?

Links to previous related posts can be found at the bottom of the page, as per usual.

Beauty and the Billionaire Boss tells the story of Belle and Damon - so, the last of the three Wellington Billionaires and younger brother to twins Saxon and Kip, who got their happily ever afters in Cinderella and the Billionaire Boss and Alice and the Billionaire Boss.

Yep, there is a fairy tale theme going here, and don't we love it?

The story starts with Belle needing to hitch a ride with Damon to go home for her sister's wedding, and why she ends up going with Damon is because her brother sort of can't come get her.

So this turns into a bit of a road trip, but not before Damon yanks her ex off her after the moron tries to force himself on her and she struggles to get him off herself; this immediately establishes what kind of man Damon is, if he's willing to protect someone right off the bat like this.

Equally, the road trip is spent with him basically explaining a lot of about sex to Belle and, well, other things lol, but really, most of it is just conversation because she asks him for the help as she's not as well-versed or experienced, never has been, and kind of wants to be.

Of course, this leads to both of them feeling hot and bothered under the collar about one another, which naturally translates itself into them seeing more of each other as they go along (especially as Belle sets out to seduce her brother's best friend!).

It also helps that Damon feels like he can be himself around Belle, and they talk about a lot more than just sex. Belle discovers that he feels terribly guilty for what happened back in the day with his cousins and why he's as close to Kennedy as he is (she with the prosthetic arm, by the way), and why he feels the need to protect the women in his life as much as he does.

More importantly, however, Damon and Belle can be there for each other through some rather tough times, as Belle learns that something she thought was true of her family wasn't true at all.

See, her mother is a famous Hollywood actress, and supposedly the marriage between her and Belle's dad deteriorated because she cheated, so they divorced.

However, the truth is slightly more complicated than that and was never disclosed to at least two of the children: Belle's mom had severe depression after her last pregnancy, so bad she couldn't even get out of bed some days, and Belle's father actually cheated first, finding solace with another woman. But he never bothered to tell anyone this and allowed the kids to blame his wife, still angry that he had to be mom and dad both at the time.

This breaks Belle's heart as her entire relationship with her mother is spun out over a lie, which BOTH parents actually perpetuated.

And to top it off, Damon is later told that the man her mom "cheated" with at the time then sexually abused Belle, which explains why her mother told her not to even think about sex, as good girls don't do it, and why she has such a complicated relationship with it.

If this sounds like a lot, add in that Damon himself isn't a walking bag of roses either, but is one of the guys who needs a little bit of warm up before he can get to the main part of sexual intercourse, and you got yourself a book that covers a wide range of topics tastefully and very bravely, I thought.

How many heroes have you read about in romance novels who have any form of erectile dysfunction!?

Bottom line though: the conflict is very easy to resolve, too, even though Belle hops to Australia for an internship in between everything (not that it stops Damon, guy's a billionaire after all, he can afford to visit her every weekend).

See, Belle mostly believes someone like her (she doesn't consider herself model like or pretty) could never be with a man like Damon, and Damon thinks his baggage is too much for a relationship.

Luckily for all of us they resolve it pretty quickly and admit to both loving each other, wanting to be exclusive, and then to figuring out just where this will all take them.

Oh and also, Belle is Damon's muse, for painting, as he paints for a hobby.

Just a little more info if you needed to fall in love with the guy even more ;)

Asking Belle to marry him is just the icing on the cake, plus everything's coming up roses for the Wellington billionaires, which is why it's a good thing we're going to have a story about Belle's grumpy brother Alex next!

I was incredibly lucky to be sent an ARC of this book; and Damon and Belle are lovely.

I didn't connect with them as much as with Kip and Alice for some reason, but that in no way changes facts:

- this is a great book
- it touches on some very important and rarely discussed topics, including but not limited to sexual exploration, male arousal and sex toys
- the hero and heroine both have their demons to overcome (which they do together)
- I was delighted to catch up with the others from the Billionaires series

Ms Woods' writing keeps getting better with each book and I never grow tired of it. This is saying something that, having read nearly all of what she's written, I can still eagerly anticipate a new release.

Most of all, what I keep on appreciating is that the communication between characters is very clear, concise, and holds no resemblance to Hallmark rom-coms.

Let Damon and Belle take you on a journey of discovery, awareness, and love. I promise you won't regret it!
