Talkie Tuesday: Pride & Prejudice

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in

possession of good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

Hello everyone!

So initially I had a very different plan for this week's blog post, but then this past weekend happened, and this was an actual conversation in our house.

"Ice hockey runs all afternoon."

"Yep."

"You know what we should watch in the meantime?"

"What?"

Movie theme song plays.

It's been absolute AGES since I've seen this movie to begin with, and it's always a pleasure watching it with someone who's more than fine discussing certain issues that crop up or that are being argued about on screen.

Without further ado then - let's time travel back to 2005 and Pride & Prejudice.

Tome Thursday: Grim Imperative

Hello everyone!

I have two weeks of exciting stories for you.

Well, alright, I have an exciting story every week - or so I hope - but this time I have a connected story, with a novella for this Thursday and a full novel for the next one.

And oh, are they GOOD.

See, every once in a while you just have to take the plunge and try reading something you might not have expected to pick up initially, depending on your mood. I've been very much contemporary-books oriented lately aside from the random fantasy ones I picked from BookSirens.

So this was a nice surprise!

It also didn't come from BookSirens, while we're at it.

But before we get into all that, let's make sure we have our sailing legs on, shall we? Because we're about to head out across the seas, and pirates never like someone who's seasick.

Especially not in Grim Imperative.

Talkie Tuesday: HFW Burning Shores

"Home isn't really a place at all. It's more like ... the people I want to be with."

Hello everyone!

So here's a story for you:

I was all set to watch a Hannah Swensen mystery this past Sunday, because I remembered that I really enjoyed the Murder, She Baked on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

Turns out, as I start watching the movie I'd chosen, it looks ridiculously familiar.

Aaand I already have it on the blog.

Given the fact that the newest entry only really premiered this weekend as well, I won't be able to watch it until a week's past, so I had to call an audible and switch gears real fast.

Luckily for me (and my unfortunate head with the biggest potential for a migraine I've had in forever) I was only about an hour away from finishing something else, this time on Youtube.

So I picked the DLC that everyone and their mother's been waiting for since Guerrilla announced it.

Burning Shores picks up Aloy's story, and runs with it.

Tome Thursday: The Silent Son

Hello everyone!

Time to dive into Norse lore again tonight.

It feels like I've planned this, reading so many books lately that take inspiration or are directly linked to our northern neighbours somehow, but I promise that's not the case.

I actually didn't even figure it out until I already had the books and was reading through them.

But it's definitely obvious I have a bit of a type, right?

All these books happen to be retellings, and this one tonight is no different either.

Remember that bit about the world ending, and each religion in the world having its own version?

Well, the Norse have one, too.

And Alexis L. Menard chose to interpret it her own way in her duology of books under the title The Last Daughter.

So come with us while we try to fight it off, in The Silent Son.

Talkie Tuesday: Eurovision

"You're stuck on me like a tattoo."

Hello everyone!

And welcome to a very short little fluff piece about the previous week when we once again saw the biggest European music competition come and go.

Seeing as it's a yearly event (that only got cancelled once in 2020 for obvious reasons), it's not like it was a one and done or anything, but each year usually brings something with it we haven't seen before.

I can't decide what this was during this current year besides the very obvious, but we'll do our best.

I also managed to completely conk out right after the competition part of the show, so I missed the fun bits!

It's never about the competition so much as it is about the accompanying acts that come one, come all.

Considering it was hosted by one of the "Big Five", it makes sense that the spectacle was something to see.

So without further ado, let's have a quick look at this year's Eurovision.

Tome Thursday: King of Tricksters

Hello everyone!

I return with a very readable book even as I mentally gear up to read something I've been putting off for ... well over a year now.

Oh I have books like THAT, don't you worry about it.

But the one I'll be talking about tonight isn't one of them.

See, Booksirens is the amazing online service that connects reviewers and authors, and I for one always thoroughly enjoy the books I pick from there.

This one was no exception in the reading department, though I'll admit that it leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to plot points.

HOWEVER.

You can pretty much read it in one or two sittings, and it's just a duology, combined with the first one, so why not give it a go, right?

The conclusion gets all concluded in King of Tricksters.

Talkie Tuesday: Coronation Weekend 2023

"God save the King!"

I'm kinda-sorta cheating this week, but truth be told I wasn't paying attention to much else (besides family) while the coronation weekend was happening in the United Kingdom.

So I leave you with a collection of images from these last couple of days!

Tome Thursday: Cinderella and the Billionaire Boss

Hello everyone!

And I hope you're ready for another lovely adventure by Serenity Woods.

Yes, yes we are indeed back to reading one of her novels, and one has to point out these really are NOVELS, in that they're the longest books she's written to date.

I love it!

Sooo much haha, it's just the most amazing thing in the world because the more substance any book has, the more enjoyable it is to read as far as I'm concerned. So when all is said and done, that's the thing that gets me the most.

Yes, I see you, the rest of Outlander. I see you. But you're just going to have to wait a second.

For right now, I'm stuck in the contemporary world with contemporary billionaires who just so happen to be absolutely amazing.

Without further ado let's get into it, shall we?

Cinderella and the Billionaire Boss starts the Wellington Billionaires trilogy, continuing the Boss in a Billion series!

Talkie Tuesday: The Rise of Skywalker

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ...

Hello everyone!

Well.

You can get it off your chest right now. I'm pretty sure everyone who's actually wanted to watch these movies has seen this film way, WAY before me.

In my defense, I was so mad after Episode VIII, that when they announced and released the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, I steadfastly and staunchly refused to touch it with a ten foot pole.

Yep, that's the entire plot and reasoning behind why I'm only reviewing this one now.

But since finishing up the Jurassic movies last week, I realized this would be hanging around my neck like some sort of dead weight, dragging me down, and so here we are.

And I have to admit ... I didn't hate it, nor did I not like it as much as I was afraid I might.

It's definitely not a masterpiece, though.

The Rise of Skywalker, plagued by the problems of its predecessor, does its best, but ultimately can't fully restore our faith in these movies.
