Talkie Tuesday: Hercules

"What is the measure of a true hero?"

Hello everyone!

This week I'm once again straying just a little, as I haven't poked at Disney in a bit and figured, why not?

Besides, my Youtube algorithm kept suggesting videos from this movie for me and I couldn't resist any longer, not when Hades looked like the funniest thing since that TikTok video of a hamster or gerbil dancing with a water bottle haha!

Disney has been on a roll with live action remakes of its cartoons, most of which reached a fever popularity pitch in the nineties, or at the very least some of the best were released then.

Somehow or other, I never considered this one for viewing pleasure, however.

I'm not sure why.

I mean, it has Greek mythology (adjusted), Danny DeVito (perfect) and it surprised me with the sardonic, often dry sense of humour that you can see right off the bat from the trailer as well.

I'm talking, of course, about Hercules.

Tome Thursday: The End of Hatred

Hello everyone!

So alright, this one took me ... a fair bit.

Like I said in one of my other posts, I will grab books off BookSirens quite often, but sometimes with the longer reading periods, it takes me a little before I manage to power through the lot of them.

Some are faster reads than others.

And some take me some time.

Tonight's choice has definitely been sitting there and tapping its foot impatiently for me to start browsing through the pages, and this week I FINALLY sat down so that I did just that. It only took me two days in the end, and that only because I really needed to take a break in between, or else I would have finished in one go I think.

But I mean, sometimes you need to stop looking at the words on the page, you know?

And so without further ado, let's jump right into my pick of the week, which is a vampire-inspired book, titled The End of Hatred.

Talkie Tuesday: Her Pen Pal

"The real triumph is not in the final product - it's in the journey."

Hello everyone!

You'll never believe what happened this weekend.

Or maybe you will, who knows?

Either way, what happened was I watched a Hallmark channel movie from this year's lineup - and I actually really, REALLY liked it.

This is a monumental thing, because I haven't really enjoyed any of their productions this year yet, not the way I have in the past.

I don't know what it is, whether I've finally reached my limit or what, but the movies just aren't as good anymore, in my opinion at least, and they come across as even more ridiculous in terms of plot twist twenty minutes before the end than they would normally do.

But this weekend, they FINALLY delivered.

And it's apt, because the movie was Her Pen Pal.

Tome Thursday: Shadow and Bone

Hello everyone!

Guess what, I'm actually more or less on time with this one.

Well, alright, not publication time, but I AM on time in terms of the fact that the Netflix show hasn't exactly been out for too long yet (which I still need to watch, actually) and I'm actually on point with the first book.

That's what I call a win!

Mostly. LOL.

I've read a book or two by Leigh Bardugo before, I think, and while I was okay with her writing style I was never into the whole Grishaverse thing that everyone else was raving about until I figured I might as well read the book before watching the show, as it made more sense to me.

And at that moment I also figured out some very important points, but I'll get to them later on in the review.

For the time being, let me just stop babbling and get straight into Shadow and Bone, alright?

Talkie Tuesday: Ubisoft Forward

As you guys can see, this week is just a little bit different all around!

So I may not be a big gamer myself - I mean, I don't even own a console and my PC is definitely NOT game approved lol, it tried valiantly and almost died one time so we said no in the end - but I really enjoy watching gameplays on Youtube (and have recently been getting into the Twitch streaming side of things).

Needless to say, it's amusing to watch these videos primarily because of the gamers behind them.

I mean, most of it is the gamer being chased around by massive monsters and shrieking their head off!

Listen, if you've never experienced that, you should, it's hysterical.

Overall though, I accidentally watched last year's Ubisoft Foward and actually caught the announcement trailer this year so thought to myself, why not try something out of the norm for this week's blog post?

And so here we are. Let's jump right into what went down during the event, shall we?

Tome Thursday: When Hope Springs New

Hello everyone!

It's a one last time kind of thing for the Canadian north, as we take a look at the fourth book in Janette Oke's saga this week.

Now granted, there ARE two more, but as I said in a previous blog post, I won't be reviewing them for this blog because I never enjoyed them all that much in the first place since the characters didn't grab me quite so well as Elizabeth and Wynn.

Jack and Elizabeth filled that spot on the television show, but even that's changed somewhat now.

But I digress!

We've been trudging through the wilderness for the past few books, so it's really high time to find out just how Elizabeth's story concludes.

Does the fashionable teacher from Toronto manage to completely overcome her own prejudices and become the woman Wynn could see was a possibility when he fell in love with her? And do they find happiness in the north?

All that, and more, will be answered in When Hope Springs New.

Talkie Tuesday: You Had Me at Aloha

"You have to learn how to be a team player."

Hello everyone!

Since I'm usually not as on time with my reviews in comparison with when, specifically, certain movies and books release, this should be a pleasant surprise for just about everyone.

See, I'm good about it with some of them, but for the most part usually join the bandwagon only AFTER everything's already over, but there ARE instances in which I actually pay attention, and this was one of them over the weekend.

Hallmark is implementing some changes to the way it does things and to some of its roster, but luckily they also know which actors really draw in the crowd.

And when you have a tried-and-true formula, you got to stick to it.

Besides, everyone and their mother wants to see some foreign parts nowadays with the pandemic, so stopping in beautiful Hawaii sounds like a good idea to me!

You Had Me at Aloha is definitely worth a watch for that alone.

Tome Thursday: When Breaks the Dawn

Hello everyone!

And here we are, continuing with the Canadian West saga, returning to the wild North with Elizabeth and Wynn Delaney.

We're actually halfway through now, since I've already said I won't be taking a look at the last two books in the series.

And boy, does the action pick up in this one!

To be clear, none of it is ACTUAL action - this is not an action book, it's a Christian one, historic fiction, and romance - but there is definitely a lot going on at the same time, not to mention a lot of challenges for our heroes to face.

What I've always enjoyed about these specific books was the fact that they showed a married couple going through trials and tribulations, and coming out stronger on the other side.

... it also helps that I've always seen Stephen Amell as Wynn, after the movie he starred in.

So without further ado, let's have a look at When Breaks the Dawn, shall we?

Talkie Tuesday: Atomic Blonde

"It's a double pleasure to deceive the deceiver."

Hello everyone!

This week's choice of movie is heavily influenced by the fact that my sister was home for the weekend and ended up watching it on television in my room.

Now, usually, I'd just do my own thing on the computer while she was at it, but I got sucked into the story, and then some.

I mean, it IS Charlize Theron though.

The woman looks too good to be true.

I want whatever she's having.

And while I'm at it, let me tell you all about the little movie she did back in 2017 (geez, is it almost 5 years ago already?) that, apparently, also has a sequel in development! This is exciting news because the movie is absolutely fantastic.

Convoluted, but fantastic.

It's called Atomic Blonde, and BOY, is it atomic!
