Hello everyone!
Yes, I am BACK with another Lizzy Ford book, or novellette, or novella, or short story, whatever you want to call it!
I'm always so excited when I open up my email account and see that the ARC arrived, it's been such a fun experience so far because it's so incredibly different for me and something out of the ordinary, but I love the anticipation and the feeling of knowing something's coming at the beginning of the month which I can look forward to!
Especially with this one, because, with each short story I get sucked into the world of Theta, more and more, I'm not going to lie.
I thought it was amazing when I read Silent Queen, and then it was awesome when Mercenary rolled around, but now it's time for the second-to-last, Shadow Titan, and honestly, let's not waste too much time with introductions!
Because the story is too gripping to ignore.
Down at the bottom of the blog post I'll be leaving links to the previous ones connected to this topic and this series, so if you want to check out what I wrote before tonight's blog, make sure to click on them, read through, and then come back to this!
So in Silent Queen, we started with the Holy Wars and Phoibe's story, continuing it with Mercenary and how Niko went to get his son - and other survivors - out of the wreck and into the compound in Washington, DC.
The last time we saw our Titan friend Lantos, however, was when Theodocia decided to cut his trip with them in the chopper short by tossing him out of there.
So ... when we meet again, he's just patching himself back together in the middle of nowhere, Maryland.
A lot of this particular novella is spent ruminating in Lantos' own thoughts, so much of it isn't exactly full of action or anything that you'd consider as vitally important to the story ... until he hears a voice speaking to him.
Namely, the current Oracle is telling him she'll get him help, but he has to come see her.
Ironically, i's Theodocia who picks him up, and they head back to the compound, where they have a heart to heart about why she dislikes him.
End result: because she's afraid he'll betray Phoibe If you recall, Lantos was Phoibe's first real friend and originally led Theodocia to the young queen. So, now that it's all settled, back to the story.
Lantos contacts the Oracle again and she leads him to her location; as we know from Omega, this is in the actual compound and she's been dissected into parts, connected with wires, and is barely hanging in there, keeping the door between this world and Olympus closed (I bet old Zeus is bad tempered about it!). But what's important in this sit-down is that Lantos is the only one who actually knows the truth about the double omega prophecy, and what the future's going to bring, making him the most important character all of a sudden!
We don't actually get told the whole thing - the end result is that Lantos now knows what he has to do, and what he's going to sacrifice.
But what we DO learn is that the next (and last) Oracle (in this version, our heroine) is going to become corrupt, lose her path - and need another person to help her find her way back.
Which is a HUGE clue, seeing as we know what happened at the end of Omega, after all, and she's forced into servitude with Cleon. So who's going to lead her to the light again? I'm hoping Adonis comes hurrying back to her side soon, because frankly put, the guy turns his back and everything goes to hell in a handbasket!
Lantos suddenly jumped onto the top of my favourites list; he reminds me a lot of Tyrion Lannister, actually, and we all know Tyrion is hilarious half the time. The other half he's saving the world.
Only one more to go and then Theta gets released! I honestly can't wait, because we keep getting snippets into what's going on, and I want to know more about the whole story!
xx
