Tome Thursday: Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

Hello everyone!

I picked a slightly different book for my review tonight, mostly because a ) I honestly think it's an interesting read and wish it gets translated into English and b ) I never got around to finishing the book I was MEANT to review.

Oops?

Let's just say, the week going into Easter Weekend is having me hopping about like the Easter Bunny, only I'm not really carrying chocolate eggs with me, sadly.

Instead I feel like I'm all over the place, so you'll forgive me if this review post seems to be slightly pulled out of the magician's hat. I kind of feel as if I SHOULD be able to do a better job, but occasionally life does take the front row seat and everything else has to relocate.

In any event, however, I picked a Slovene book this time, which would roughly be titled Death of an Heir: Following Slovene Interpretations of the Sarajevo Assassination.

If you've guessed that this will be all about Archduke Franz Ferdinand, cookie for you!

Talkie Tuesday: Murder on the Orient Express (2)

"I do not approve of murder."

Hello everyone!

So a little while back I sat down to watch the re-make of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, helmed by Kenneth Branagh and some other famous film stars. 

Unfortunately, you may also know that one did NOT go off without a hitch.

In the spirit of trying to cleanse my taste buds from that foul thing, I ended up rewatching the David Suchet version with my friends (and then to top it off a couple of days ago, I also hunkered down for Death on the Nile, also with Suchet playing the titular role of the Belgian detective). Needless to say, the final consensus was that the Suchet apparition was much better than the Branagh one.

This does not necessarily have everything to do with the role of the sleuth, however, but with everything else happening around him, and how it's portrayed.

And while I will agree that, story-wise, there weren't that many differences between 2010 and 2017, the presentation of said story remains wildly opposite.

Back on the Orient Express we go!

Tome Thursday: Making Sense

Hello everyone!

If you're looking at the nifty Goodreads gadget I have here to the side of the blog, you're probably thinking: gee, it's taking her a LONG time (and I mean, super extra long) to read some of these books that aren't even two hundred pages long.

This is also me cheerfully ignoring the fact that I really need to buckle down on the Plantagenet book, too.

But yes, sometimes, you'll see a book on my 'currently reading' list that I add on there so I don't forget, but then I don't actually sit down and read it before some time has passed.

This was what happened with Making Sense.

Serenity Woods still remains my favourite contemporary romance author (even with a supernatural twist!), but somehow I got sidetracked reading everything else except this particular book.

Then again, when I did open it up, I finished it in about two hours. 

Talkie Tuesday: The Last Jedi

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ..."

Hello everyone!

This is where the opening notes of John Williams' Star Wars title theme start playing, and yellow texts unrolls in front of your eyes so you can read up on all that's been happening in a galaxy far, far away while we were waiting for the next instalment. 

And yeah, okay, this is also where I admit that I was kind of waiting for the right moment? I guess? To watch this movie.

Not sure if this is the one, but on Sunday afternoon I thought to myself 'You know what, now you're just stalling' and popped the play button on Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, or, as it's alternately known, the penultimate film of this sequel trilogy.

At least, I THINK that Episode IX is supposed to be the very last one, but who am I to know?

In any event, it's time to hold on to your lightsabers, because we're about to make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs while we review Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
