"The biggest fashion show on Earth."
Hello everyone!
So with the newest installment in these shows just around the corner (I think it's supposed to happen sometime in October?), I figured I'd retrace my steps and watch the 2024 version of it.
Because I honestly can't remember whether or not I watched it when it first aired.
My memory is THAT bad LOL.
Either way, however, I used to really enjoy and love these. They were big, they were fun, you could see the models were having the time of their lives, and the music segments were usually to die for.
I can honestly say that I think this might have been better off left buried, because last year's show just didn't live up to the hype of the previous ones.
I don't know if it was the music, the models who were trying to look like they're in high fashion rather than having fun, or what, but it just wasn't all that.
Still, let's take a quick look at the Victoria's Secret Fashion show, shall we?
Now, as said before, I've pretty much watched all consecutive shows starting way back when, just because I wanted to see the themes, the artistry, the Fantasy Bra, and of course the lineup of models.
Ain't nobody who can beat Adriana Lima even to this day, I'm sorry.
However, the 2024 show just left me kind of disappointed.
Used to be, that only the Angels got to wear wings during show segments, so you differentiated who was who walking the runway, and becoming an Angel was one of the most coveted things in the modelling world for a bit.
In 2024, however, the lines were blurred so much that it felt like they were just handing the wings out for free, and not for what they used to represent.
Alright, fair, they want to be inclusive and all that.
But what happened to having fun?
Back in the day, every model coming out was wearing a smile and partying it up. We all knew that, as opposed to high fashion, where models are basically walking statues, Victoria's Secret leaned more into creating a party atmosphere and you could see the way the models genuinely enjoyed being on stage.
In this one, they all seem to have taken a page out of the other booklet, trying to sell lingerie as high fashion, and it just fell flatter than a pancake.
I wanted the fun!!!
The music was also kind of eh. While I understand k-pop is currently all the rage, I wasn't sold on the performance, and when Cher showed up for her five minutes of fame, I was relieved.
Even though the poor woman can't really dance at all anymore, she at least has music that'll survive into the next era!
Overall, while it was nice to see the old faces return, like Behati, Alessandra, Candice, etc, they all appeared so briefly it was hard to even notice them for long because the camera kept favouring models that are relative unknowns, instead of trying to sell the show through it's longest-running faces.
I'll still be watching the 2025 show at some point, but I'm not holding my breath about it.
The magic remained somewhere back in 2018, unfortunately.
xx
