Talkie Tuesday: Victoria's Secret 2016

"The biggest fashion show on Earth."

Hello everyone!

So this Tuesday's blog is a little bit different because it's not going to be about a movie or a TV show, even though I have way too many of those to catch up on and to write about. Oops. What can I say, I'm a bit of an addict here!

But no.

Tonight I'm going to be talking about, what the quote up there says: the biggest fashion show on Earth.

I'm talking about Victoria's Secret, of course.

I got into watching the annual shows VERY late in the game, a couple of years back, because a friend of mine showed me some videos and the like, and I liked the production of it all (also, the models are gorgeous, let's be honest here, every girl gets a hit on her self-esteem when they show up, but I mean, what can you do?).

So instead of chattering on about an action movie or a comedy or even Timeless, I'm just going to dive right in, and talk about fashion tonight.

Now to be honest, it is, first and foremost, a lingerie brand, which means that they are definitely walking around half naked.

And I don't care.

Aside from the segments (which I'll go into in a little bit), we get a glimpse of different aspects of either putting the show together, or what makes it unique. Over the years they've discussed how they cast new models, who their trademark faces are, what makes the show special, etc.

This year they talked about how Paris (the show's location) is basically the starting point for every model, no matter what her name is, and as the capital of fashion, it seemed appropriate to finally bring the show to its roots, in a way.

They also mentioned what it means to be an Angel, meaning the brand's special models who market it around the world, and what kind of an impact that title alone has on a girl's life.

Of course no one can ignore talking about how the girls get ready for the show, how much blood, sweat and tears goes into working out to give it two hundred percent on the runway and to look as good as they do, but the most important message this year was that the industry is finally beginning to turn around: it's not about the rockstar life anymore, it's about looking after yourself and being healthy.

And there's a special skit about Adriana Lima, who is probably the longest running Angel (alongside Alessandra Ambrosio) and also the one who literally stops traffic.

Every single other girl admits that she's a show all on her own, and considering her track length of fifteen years on this runway, I'd have to agree with them. There's just something about her that not even Alessandra can accomplish. It's just ... it's the Adriana Lima thing, what else can I say? Other women can be nominated and crowned the sexiest on the planet, but she still looks better than half the other models who are twenty years old at the moment.

Which shows whenever she walks, though sadly she only got two walks this year.

There were six separate segments in the show, with five of them featuring live performances (which are described below). The first, titled The Road Ahead, looked to be some sort of Asian/Indian-inspired clique with the jewelled wings and the fluttering drapery all over the models, but it worked, the colours were vibrant, the models cheerful, and hey, everyone likes those happy faces, right?

Side-note: I'm so happy to see Kendall Jenner relaxed this year during her walks, last year I think her nerves got the better of her and she looked a bit clunky. This year, though? Perfection!

Side-note #2: Gigi Hadid lost weight since last year. Seriously. Compared to her butterfly outfit, this year's look makes her seem like she lost a foot in her waist, not just inches.

The second segment was the first with a live performance, this being Lady Gaga with her Million Reasons, and was called 'Mountain Retreat'. I didn't actually get why every girl looked like Heidi who'd gone a bit weird what with all the short-shorts and lederhosen, but once I rewatched and saw the title, it all made sense! Poor Josephine was so touched, she cried backstage, it was so sweet to see.

For Pink Nation, the third segment, they brought out Bruno Mars, and I was SO happy to see a couple models who aren't stick-thin! If you're not careful you can easily miss them, since they aren't exactly plus size, but at the same time, knowing that Victoria's Secret is making the right steps just warms my heart.

Secret Angel was the segment where The Weeknd sang his magic, and I have to admit he looks much better without the dreadlocks, but that's just me. The outfits were mysterious, sexy, and Adriana Lima brought her bedroom eyes. What more do you need?

Maybe some more Lady Gaga, who started a fun medley for the fifth segment, Dark Angel, and you could see the girls were so having fun with it. Not to mention ... Gaga's shoes! I would have killed myself in them, but she walked it like a pro. Those angel wings from her jacket at the end? The crowd went wild!

To finish the show off, Bruno Mars was called to stage again for Bright Night Angel, and you could feel the euphoria by this point since the girls could see the end of the tunnel now. Jasmine strutted out with the Bright Night Fantasy Bra, and it was easy to see she was barely holding it together. But she looked fantastic, as did everyone else!

Bruno is always fun to watch, and this year was no exception; they gave him some Cuban heels to make him a bit taller, probably realizing that the last time he was on stage with the girls he kind of looked like a midget haha! But he definitely brought the house down with his high energy hits.

The Weeknd was probably in a bit of an awkward position as rumour has it he and Bella Hadid broke up, and she walked in lingerie right by him, but he only performed one song, Starboy, and he did it splendidly, although I still prefer his last year's performance of In the Night, but that's just me to be honest.

Now, Lady Gaga was a show all on her own. Million Reasons literally made me gape; I stopped following her career and her songs when she began dressing up like red meat, but now I think I need to get her latest album, Joanne. And as for the medley she performed later? Funky, flirty, upbeat, and definitely enjoyable!

That's all for tonight! What did you think, if you watched it? (If you haven't, I highly recommend it, though!)

The glitter hasn't even settled yet, and I'm already looking forward to the 2017 show!
