Talkie Tuesday: Ice Age Mammoth Christmas

"Just believe in the magic of Christmas."

Hello everyone!

Welcome back.

Tonight, we're taking a look at an oldie that's really turned into a goldie, mostly because I've loved the Ice Age movies from the second the first one aired - I might do a full review of the entire series on here at some point, because why not?

When you've got a mammoth, a saber tooth tiger, and a sloth bopping around together, there's bound to be some sort of comedy gold happening then and there!

And then of course, the studio that made these movies decided they should also ensure the chaotic chosen family got to celebrate Christmas together.

Thus, the subject of tonight's blog post was born.

If you're thinking what I'm thinking, then you're thinking right - obviously we have to check it out, and the good news is, is that it's only about twenty minutes to half an hour long.

So get those quick snacks, because A Mammoth Christmas is flying by!

Links to previous related posts can be found at the bottom of the page, as per usual.

Manny and his family are preparing to celebrate Christmas, which in the time of ice and snow and rocks means they're rolling out the family rock so that Santa can find them and bring the presents.

Sid, our beloved and klutzy sloth, tries to sell them on the idea of making a Christmas TREE instead, because who would ever want to look for a rock in a rocky wasteland, when you can also DECORATE said tree?

Then of course, he manages to break the family rock, as you do, and Manny tells him he's on Santa's naughty list now.

Manny's daughter Peaches gives her daddy a piece of her mind, though Manny later admits to his wife he kinda made the list stuff up, but Sid is STILL crying about it, until Peaches tells him they'll head to the North Pole to find Santa.

Of course, nobody mentions this plan to the adults, so naturally said adults later panic and Diego (the tiger, natch) has to sniff Sid out to follow their tracks.

The other group, meanwhile, has tag-teamed with a flying reindeer named Prancer, who saves them from toppling into a canyon head-first, then flies them to the North Pole. Our two groups intersect when Peaches & Co get intercepted by an army of little sloths guarding Santa, and the interaction causes an avalanche that brings the two groups closer together.

It also ruins all the presents Santa's made thus far, not to mention his sleigh, and feeling inspired, he DOES in fact create the naughty list.

Manny, not to be undone, decides they'll all help the old fat guy get Christmas on the road, so they enlist the help of the mini-sloths (who take up the spot of elves in this one) and get things done.

When it's time to deliver presents, however, it turns out that Prancer can't pull the sleigh alone - lo and behold, he's got an entire family that can fly, so Santa can take to the skies and deliver presents all around the world!

Thus, having helped establish a few Christmas traditions, our family can go on living happily ever after.

And all the while through this, our favourite prehistoric squirrel, Scrat, is chasing down acorns to the music from the Nutcracker, ranging from stealing to skating on ice, to eventually getting a babushka-style acorn from Santa in the end, losing it, and dangling behind the sleigh to be kicked by the flying reindeer, because of course that's the end.

Short, sweet, and incredibly funny while also poignantly telling us the story of Christmas in a slightly different way, A Mammoth Christmas is the perfect short watch to put into your busy holiday schedule.

10/10 recommend, and the entire Ice Age series with it!

xx
