Tome Thursday: A Baby for Christmas

Hello everyone!

Welcome to tonight's choice of book review which, I'll be honest, I was skeptical about going in.

Then again, it's been a while since I could read a holiday-themed romance and feel like it actually hit all the right beats, you get what I'm saying?

But this one was good.

Actually, this one was kind of GOLD, rather than just good.

Which means my hope in all of these has been restored, at least for the time being!

So make sure you've got your favourite drink and/or snack ready, cozy up under a fluffy blanket in your favourite reading spot, and pick this one up so you can bring some holiday cheer into your life.

Even if only for a moment.

Because nothing says Christmas more than a couple lonely hearts finding their happily ever after, like in A Baby for Christmas.

A Baby for Christmas is a book by Keira Andrews, who I used to read almost religiously, but then kind of fell off the bandwagon because I felt that a lot of her heroes sounded more teenage-y and not all that adult, despite the fact they were SUPPOSEDLY adults.

However, she's never failed to delight me with her holiday-themed romances, so when she announced she was dropping another one of those, I couldn't keep my sticky mitts to myself.

A Baby for Christmas is Cam and Jake's story, and it's a really good one.

So Jake has a daughter, Cora, she's about six months old, and was born prematurely, her mother wants nothing to do with her and signed away her parental rights after her rich boyfriend dumped his then-wife to run off with the side-piece.

Jake, however, fell in love with Cora the second he saw her, and he's on his way to sort his life out when he takes a shortcut that ends in the middle of nowhere and his car not working.

This is where Cam comes in.

Cam used to have a huge crush on Jake back in school, but there's tension between them right from the get-go which we slowly start to unravel as the story continues, but at least he's decent enough not to want to leave a baby outside in a snow storm, so he takes the two back to his cabin.

Once there, with it having only the one bed and a crib fashioned out of a drawer for little Cora, the boys have time to figure their stuff out.

See, Jake was the popular kid in school, while Cam wasn't really, and they were doing weed one time when a search was conducted with sniffer dogs - Jake dropped the baggie into Cam's locker. Cam's scholarship to university was revoked and he was basically ostracized by everyone, although he learns now in present time that Jake actually went down to the station after coming clean to his parents, where he learned the charges had been dropped.

But the damage had already been done, and they can't take it back no matter how hard they try.

However, learning that Jake TRIED thaws the barriers around Cam's heart, and well, there IS only the one bed ... and the both of them want one another ...

You can see where this is going.

By the time the snow storm abates and they can actually venture out again, it's a hard idea for the two of them to separate, which is why even though Cam drives Jake to his uncle's house (actually the one he used to live in, but sold to his uncle) he offers for them to instead go back and move into the big house he's building on the property where the cabin is, together.

Considering everything, Jake says yes, and fast-forward a year later they're VERY happily celebrating another holiday season in their home, with Cora growing like a weed and their neighbours happy to lend a helping hand.

All's well that ends well, they say!

Like I said before, it's been a while since I last really enjoyed a Keira Andrews book, but Cam and Jake warmed my heart right through though, Cora beside them. I'm so happy everything got resolved and we didn't have to witness any separation while wondering will they - won't they.

I noticed the steamy scenes seem to be toned down a little in this one, not that I mind one way or another, it's just an observation.

But overall, this is a lovely holiday read with an adorable HEA and I hope we get to check on this little family again in future!
