Talkie Tuesday: Sailing into Love

"Dreams change. So do plans."

Hello everyone!

I am back with a Hallmark movie binge.

Every once in a while, I think to myself that I should have one of these. Sadly, Hallmark doesn't always produce the perfect films, but then again they aren't the only ones at fault for that.

Mostly, however, you can count on at least being able to turn your mind off for an hour and a half to two hours and just think about what's happening on your screen rather than what's going on inside your head. And admittedly, it's almost always funny.

With the closing of the season for When Calls the Heart, I saw a comment somewhere about Chris McNally, the actor portraying one of the new men in town, and that he was quite the sweetheart in his other roles.

Of course, I had to investigate.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I've so far seen him in two movies (and plan on seeing more) and apparently in Lucifer though I don't remember that! But without further ado, ahoy, mateys! Sailing into Love is sailing onto the blog.
With so many different Hallmark channel movie reviews, I'm not really grouping them together, though I probably should ... maybe if I ever switch the layout or the site I host my blog on. I'd love to be able to have tabs on top of the site where you could go to view things, and one of them would certainly be a list of all the reviews I've ever done!

As it happens, there's no such thing so far, but if you type 'Hallmark' or 'Hallmark Channel' into the search bar on top of the page, you're bound to see a great many posts from me on the topic.

Now, back to Sailing into Love.

As the title says, there will be sailing involved.

Billed as part of Hallmark's Countdown to Summer, this was a fun, sweet, and easygoing movie to watch, with some of the time-tried themes Hallmark loves to pull out of the closet, although at least there was no vineyard or chocolate shop anywhere this time.

No, this time we catch up with Claire (Leah Renee), a biology teacher, who's starting a new class soon enough, and who jets around the bay on her little boat, specifically to a tiny island in the middle, Blue Island, where she's conducting research and also taking her students to study.

On one such morning, she runs into someone on the docks - poor Tom almost loses most of his bait for fishing AND his footing into the water, but luckily for him Claire grabs him, and ends up covered in bait instead.

Oops.

Turns out, Claire is the maid of honour to three of her friends, who have all decided to get married in the same month, and surprise surprise, her ex is also invited to all three weddings.

What went wrong with them?

Well, he got a job in a big city, it was important to him, but the small community and her job were important to Claire, so she let Jason go.

Now it seems there might be a reunion on the horizon, or perhaps new romance with the handsome stranger.

Said handsome stranger (McNally) finds one of her notebooks and is conveniently going to be the captain for her and her group of students since the old one is retiring, so he gets the chance to return it to her, and to spend more time around her. This includes but is not limited to rescuing a student from the water and almost going in himself, having Clare tug him back by the belt and collapsing under him.

They meet at the wedding as well, where she spots Jason with a new belle, and is completely out of it when Tom asks her to dance. Plus, she kind of does NOT want the bouquet even if it's going straight for her (her friends really want her to catch it) and Tom points out she owes him a real dance.

Claire actually asks him to be her date to the second wedding, mostly to make Jason jealous (not that she'll admit it), although before it happens she learns that Blue Island is going up for sale, and not only that, but Jason represents the resort chain that wants to build there. He conveniently spins a tale of Tom also being pro-build, which pisses Claire off and she not only fights the poor guy, venting her anger at him, but she gives him the cold shoulder all through the wedding.

Tom eventually corners her and explains he turned Jason down when they spoke about a potential contract, because he values Claire more, and the two agree to have dinner.

Blue Island becomes a problem, however, and Tom helps Claire rally the townsfolk to put up more of a fight about it, although he later spies her with Jason, who admits he wants Claire back, and Tom debates letting her return to her old flame.

Thankfully, his best friend and co-captain gives him another idea, and for the third wedding, which has Tom sailing the group to the lighthouse Claire showed him at an earlier point during the movie, he unveils his uniform and introduces himself as a Lieutenant Commander of the US Navy.

He also fights for Claire directly by telling her not to go with Jason, but she's already decided Jason and she have parted ways for good; on top of that, the town has won in the fight for Blue Island, and the last bride tosses the bouquet directly at Claire without holding a special toss for all the single girls, which morphs into a scene with Tom and Claire standing on the prow of his ship, obviously married.

Happily ever after!

I enjoyed the fun-filled movie, it was heart-warming and very relaxing on both mind and soul, although I have to admit that I disagree with another reviewer who said nobody jumped to any conclusions, considering Claire did just that.

But hey, Tom looked extremely dashing in his uniform - Jason who now?
