This week on our favourite time-travelling show, we catch up with some familiar faces and start running neck-deep into the Revolution that's about to happen.

 

As a very helpful Claire points out: the dates that we have in our heads are for when the Declaration of Independence was signed, not for when the war actually began.

 

That stuff, the scary, shoot-people and stab the rest kind of deal?

 

That starts WAY before anything can ever be signed.

 

And it's that which worries anyone who has a modicum of knowledge when it comes to the future, among other things. But there's a lot to unpack for this episode, even though my personal favourites will be and always remain the guest stars.

 

Listen, Starz, can you just, ignore whatever prequel thing you're doing for Outlander and give us a Lord John spin-off instead?

Tome Thursday: Lord John and the Haunted Soldier

 

Hello everyone!

 

So alright, I'm fudging a little this week since this isn't a full book that I'm adding into my collection.

 

HOWEVER, considering the way Diana Gabaldon herself looks at her second, off-shot series, it's still better than an actual novella would be, you know?

 

Every once in a while I'll go back and read some of the shorter stories the author's written, because while I do thoroughly enjoy her longer novels (and by longer I mean, as long as the day you're going through is with their thousands of pages), sometimes it's nice to be able to read through something in an afternoon.

 

No way this happens with, say, Voyager!

 

And I've been on an Outlander, or more specifically Scotland kick lately, thanks for Sam and Graham, so I mean.

 

If you're like me and you want to have a look at some other adventures that are just as fun but don't take as much out of the reader - read no further!

 

Lord John Grey is back. And he has a Haunted Solider to deal with.

So you may have heard of Outlander - that tiny little show about time travel and James Fraser - but have you checked out the book spin-off series, about Lord John Grey? Well if you haven't, now is an excellent time, because if there's one person who can definitely put a smile on your face during rainy fall afternoons, it's Lord John. If he isn't accidentally landing at the siege of Quebec, then he's somehow getting himself in trouble in Jamaica. AND he has time to visit the Frasers while he's at it! I swear, this guy gets around. But Diana Gabaldon was sure on to something when he popped into existence, and I highly recommend his books.

When in doubt, go with something you know.

Or in this case, someone.

I've been playing catch-up with some of my other books and haven't been able to finish them yet because of some personal reasons, but thankfully there's always some old faithfuls to lean back on, and tonight's one is no exception.

I mean, when I tell you it has Lord John in it, you'll probably agree with me that you should have seen this one coming.

Lord John Grey is one of those characters that just really, really grows on you, and this isn't just because of David Berry's stellar performance in the Outlander series (I'm still over here in the fanclub camp that's begging for a Lord John spin-off!).

He's just the kind of person you can't help but love, no matter what, honestly!

Outlander: Better to Marry than Burn

Hello everyone!

Droughtlander might be coming closer, but it isn't THAT close yet, so we still have something to look forward to every Sunday, and escaping into 18th century North Carolina sounds like a pretty good deal, all things considered.

After all, even if we'd be dealing with locusts, wouldn't that mean we're at least outside AND communicating with other people?

With quarantine now pretty much all around us AND upon us, it's best if we leave real life to its own problems for a while, and escape three hundred years or so into the past.

After all, it's a whole lot more fun watching Jamie Fraser deal with all the problems heading his way (and the hilarities accompanying them), not to mention the fact that he just ALWAYS seems to end up in some kind of trouble.

Some people have all the luck - or no luck at all, depending on how you look at it.

Better to Marry than Burn is the sixth episode of Outlander this season, and it's absolutely worth taking a look at.
