Tome Thursday: The Werewolf's Dragon Defender

Hello everyone!

FINALLY back with another book review after the computer chaos of last week.

This was the blog post that SHOULD have gone up last Thursday, but unfortunately, I don't always schedule my posts since I quite like the routine of sitting down two to three times a week and typing them up, usually on the day they're getting posted.

I know it may not be the most effective way of doing things, but it's worked for me so far!

It did, however, also mean I didn't really have a post to share after the old computer said farewell, so this one had to wait a little bit.

Here we are now however, back in Supernatural Suburbia, and Riley Rivers has two other books after the first, Nymph Neighbor, which is all well for me since I usually like to read them in a series and not just stand-alones.

So I think I'm going to actually stop blabbering now and do something productive, aka, get right into the post.

The link to my previous blog post can be found at the bottom of this page, as always.

In this second book of the Suburbia stories we catch up with Tommy, who, if you recall, got kidnapped along with the little girl in the first book, and also got tortured for his efforts. He was ultimately saved, and has now managed to get back to his apartment, and back to his regular schedule.

See, Tommy's a nanny, and a trusted one at that since he usually works with slightly more challenging children, and supernatural ones too, so his families are all super happy to have him back, safe and sound.

He'll deal with the kidnapping, no problem. He's dealt with stuff before, too.

That kind of all goes out the window when he gets a call from a surrogate big brother figure (another Alpha Werewolf) that his ex has been released from prison.

THIS sparks all kinds of alarm inside Tommy's head, but he won't let the other guy - who isn't the nicest person on the planet, obviously - from controlling his life.

That is, until he comes back to his apartment once and catches his scent all over the place.

THAT's when he panics, and gets the hell out of Dodge, and gets in touch with the detective who helped with the kidnapping in the first book, who knows about supernatural - and his name is Michael.

Conveniently enough named after the Archangel who led God's armies, Michael is on the case immediately, sensing there's danger, and hearing it over the phone in Tommy's frantic voice. So they head to the station and Tommy gives a statement so they'll all be on alert - Michael's co-worker Henry promises to do a little digging, too.

In the meantime, Tommy kind of needs a place to stay, a safe place that won't pop up on radar anywhere.

Naturally, Michael invites him along to HIS house.

See where this is going?

Obviously it doesn't happen right away, but the protectiveness and the sparks are already there, and Michael just wants to help Tommy. He makes sure to keep his hands to himself until Tommy specifically asks him. See, Tommy LIKES Michael - and there might even be the mating bond happening.

Because Michael is also a shifter - he's a FREAKING DRAGON!

He even has a special fire-proof basement where he goes to vent his frustrations and fire up the chimneys (literally!).

And just when it looks like the ex (who bit Tommy to turn him into a werewolf in the first place and then abused him and considers him his property) might just be about to frighten Tommy, there's a miscommunication, one too many people ask about Michael, and Michael ISN'T at home when the ex finds Tommy at his house.

I was sort of hoping for Michael to come in and just shift into a huge ass dragon out of sheer anger, or come roaring in as a dragon already, but sadly this isn't the case, though he and another officer DO grab the ex before Tommy can be hurt any worse than he already is from stalling the guy until the police got there.

Then it's time for Tommy to go back home, and he and Michael part ways ... only to come back together when neither can be without the other and, hey, maybe they could give a relationship a try, right?

Right!

This might actually be my favourite out of the trilogy purely because of Michael, whom I really loved - but I wish we'd seen more dragon action! And how Tommy would react to the revelation, since he's never actually told about his boyfriend being a dragon.

Otherwise, another great, quick, easy and fun read to take with you to the beach!
