Tome Thursday: Persuading Spring

Hello everyone!

The weather has been amazingly fine this week which has certainly contributed to my almost perpetual good mood, so I've been out and about and getting things done, mostly.

I suppose making sure I can do some more damage on BookDepository is one of those things, right?

Right.

Anyway, I'm back with another Serenity Woods book, but this time I feel extra accomplished because it's the LAST of her Four Seasons series, which brings the total up to four and makes me feel special since I managed to actually write the lot out up here. Aren't I neat?

If you recall, the seasons we covered went summer, autumn, winter, and now finally spring, which confused me to begin with since, you know, usually people start with spring.

But after reading Persuading Spring I can't help but agree with the succession. Spring, and new beginnings, is the perfect place to finish.
Once again, the links to all my previous Serenity Woods blogs can be found at the bottom of this page, but I will quickly brief you on just what happened in the previous three books, because as you go along, you get little glimpses of what'll be going on in the next one.

Seducing Summer was Callie and Gene's story where he saved her life and ended up losing his heart in the process; Tempting Autumn took Hitch and Rowan way up into the middle of nowhere to find what was supposed to be an extinct gecko and that their hearts were wide open for love; and Bewitching Winter found Neve and Rhett figuring out that romance never truly dies, not when it's the real thing.

It also led into Persuading Spring as the couple join the others on the day of Bridget's wedding day to her on-again-off-again boyfriend Mal.

The rain is pelting down by the time Birdie (as she's known to her friends) arrives, but something else is going to be falling soon, too: her tears.

Mal never shows.

Stood up and unable to bear the pity and compassion from the perfectly-matched couples in the room, Bridget flies out into the rain and stands on a pier overlooking the water while it keeps on falling. This is where Aaron finds her.

Aaron is in Wellington to spend time with his son, since the separation from the boy's mother was far from amicable and she moved to Wellington to escape the Northland where he has his veterinary practice.

He has more than enough problems of his own - his ex Nita wants to take their son to Spain with her after she returns there, which he is vehemently against and so the courts are making things difficult. But he can't just leave Bridget there on the quay, either, which is how she ends up in the hotel room with him, taking a hot shower and getting some much needed rest.

Later, this includes dinner and a movie with Aaron and his son, but equally it means fighting an instant attraction she feels towards her rescuer.

Now, it's not just rebound, either.

Mal had honestly been simply the man she knew who had never made much effort with her, but she was too scared to venture into the dating game again. More importantly, it's her pride that was wounded more than her heart by him not showing up on their wedding day.

Still, this is the wrong moment, but Aaron has a solution: if she needs some time away, she can easily come up to the Northland.

Bridget says she'll think about it - and much to the chagrin of her friends, who think that she's acting out on an emotional outburst, she actually goes north.

Aaron, for his part, can't seem to forget her, but he has work to do and he does it, while his friends watch him with hawk eyes because they figure something's up. And when Bridget makes an appearance at the practice, well, they know just what it is.

Both of them, Bridget and Aaron, agree this looks like it's rushing into things, but equally they don't want to deny their attraction to each other which intensifies all through dinner.

At the end of it, Bridget goes home with Aaron. And soon enough he suggests she just moves in with him for the duration of her stay in the Northland.

They explore the rural town together and learn about each other, trying to figure out whether or not this is just a rebound for Bridget or something else, knowing that with Aaron being a father they need to be careful if it's not actually serious. But as the days go by and Bridget's goodbye nears, both of them feel the impending doom of separation.

It doesn't help that Aaron has friends and family watching out for him and questioning what he's doing, not that he appreciates it, considering he's old enough to take care of himself.

But the point is that he has a big heart, and no one wants to see him hurt again.

He calmly states that Bridget's heart is just as big, and why is no one worrying about her?

In the end though, they make an agreement: Aaron will visit Bridget in Wellington when he's there to spend time with his son. Not to mention there's a different problem on the horizon as the boy seems to be bullied in school, something that Aaron and Bridget both worry about.

And then there's Nita, who has her own thoughts on just what Aaron should or should not be doing, but surprisingly enough when she does run into Bridget, she likes her almost immediately - after which she agrees that her son needs to stay with his father, as he's a mini Kiwi alreay, anyway. On the bullying front, Aaron settles that one while also transferring his son back to the original, smaller school up in the Northland, where he's happier.

Bridget and Aaron make long-distance work for a bit, until Bridget admits that she's been thinking about opening up a Four Seasons lingerie store up in Russel where he lives,, and moving there permanently.

All the four friends are moving on with their lives - Callie and Gene have two children, Rowan and Hitch marry somewhere in the Himalayas (because, seriously), and then of course there's Neve and Rhett who are finally happy together again.

After which Bridget gets the surprise of her life one day during the holidays when everyone's up in the Northland to spend time together as it's revealed Aaron planned this to be their wedding day - knowing what had happened to her previously he didn't want to make it into a grand affair, but he DOES want to marry her. Of course since Bridget went and finally kicked Mal to the curb (not to mention he got punched by Rhett) she's definitely free to say yes.

For anyone who still hasn't read any of these season-themed books - please do! They're well worth the read, not to mention the fact that they're fun, easy going and of course romantic. With so much happening around the world today, this is just the kind of break you might need.

That - and how does the saying go again?

And then they lived happily ever after, to the end of their days.
