Hello everyone!
I hope the lead-up to the actual holidays is treating you well. I know it can be overwhelming and exhausting for a lot of people, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everyone can get at least SOME breathing room in, and not have to worry about a single thing.
That said, it's time to buckle up, almost literally, on this blog again.
We're headed back to Crimson Ridge.
Because, get this: there's a holiday novella for you to read on there!
Not a full novel, not a massive book, so if you don't have the time to invest, but still want to have some hot holiday cowboy love, this is absolutely the one for you.
... and am I side-eyeing the new release by Elliott Rose even as I type this? Yes, yes I am, of course. Why wouldn't I be when she writes this beautifully?
But without further ado, it's time to forget about all the real stuff for a while, and disappear into the cozy and the sexy.
All of that and more gets delivered in Bouquets & Buckles!
Bouquets & Buckles is a holiday novella that's sort of standalone, so you can read it without having read the rest of the series, but it DOES feature cameos from other characters that have cropped up in earlier books, so it's up to you how you wanna read it.
Though full disclosure, I still need to read two of the main, and got through this without any issue, so.
Allons-y!
Sky is our heroine, a florist one town over from Crimson Ridge, with tattoos on her body and pastel pink hair and high hopes for Christmas when she means to surprise her boyfriend, who's house-sitting back in their hometown.
Only, the one surprised isn't the one you're expecting.
Because the guy is a cheating ass, that's what he is.
Then, to top off her humiliation, she finds her car with a flat tire, so in despair she calls her best friend Brad - who you get to meet in some of the other books - and babbles the entire story out into the ether when the line connects.
There's just one teensy, tiny little problem: Brad doesn't answer the phone.
Because she doesn't call Brad.
She calls BRAD'S DAD.
Lucas Rhodes, the resident Grinch, is yet another of the cowboys who'll never leave a girl stranded, so he hops into his truck and goes to pick her up. The issue with this, however, is that he's been fighting an attraction to her for a year, since last New Year's Eve, because one, he's old enough to be her dad, and two, she's BFFs with his son and he doesn't want to screw that up.
Luckily for him, though, Sky's had a crush on him since literally forever, she's just pissed off enough tonight - and humiliated - to want some comfort, and she's now confident enough to shoot her shot, so so speak.
And as the snow falls heavily down outside the Rhodes ranch, the two souls inside decide that if they're about to burn in hell for their "sins", might as well go all the way.
It's steamy, it's sexy, it's oh-so-good, and Daddy Rhodes has a mouth on him that would make a trucker blush.
But he's also got so many emotions packed into this little novella that it sometimes feels like he might just choke on them, and Sky's pretty much done for the minute he starts actually taking care of her, so the whole 'it's just while the snow lasts' thing doesn't really hold ANY water, LOL.
Then Brad and his boyfriend suddenly pop up earlier than expected, and our lovers have to keep their hands to themselves - until the NYE party, when it gets hot and sizzling and captured on video that they take for posterity (for science? For science HAH).
Then they go separate ways.
Until Brad calls Sky to announce he's coming over to help her over her breakup with the Christmas jerk, but when she opens the door it's actually Lucas on the other side, casserole dish in hand.
See, Sky never actually told her friend anything, but he wore his old man down while the guy was moping around his ranch, and in the end decided he might as well play Cupid or NOTHING is ever gonna change.
With Brad's blessing, this relationship can now really flourish, and Lucas offers to invest in Sky's growing business, giving her a full field to grow her own flowers in, because he's just THAT guy.
And in his extended epilogue - which has a little more naughty included - you also get a little preview of a couple other books, identifying where this might stand on the timeline, and hopefully hyping you up for the rest.
This is the kind of novella you want at this time of year. Festive, cozy, sexy, and with a great HEA.
Am I curious how Lucas ended up solo-parenting his son? Sure. Would it be fun to read that in-convo on the page? Also sure. But I don't NEED it to love this smutty fluff piece, and I say this with all the love in my heart.
Skylar and Lucas heat things up with more than a sprinkle of festive cheer, and I'm all in for it.
... also if I read "You don't know the real story of how we met" again I might scream. Brad's book can't come soon enough!
10/10 recommend, the Crimson Ridge series is 🔥
