Tome Thursday: Love Ghost On

Hello everyone!

This week we're taking a look at a very cute, wholesome short story, that you can get if you join this specific author's newsletter, and I'm telling you it's totally worth it.

If nothing else, you get a very cute doggo, a funny ghost cat, and some great poetry to boot!

I accidentally found Dina Marie on BookSirens when I thought the cover of her first book looked cute and well done, featuring a red-headed heroine, a ghostly hero, and a dog and cat.

It seemed to be drawn rather than a realistic photoshoot, and that's definitely something that's appealing to me in today's day and age of AI covers and whatnot!

Overall, her cozy mysteries series has definitely carved its place in my heart, even if I don't necessarily enjoy every single page of what's written.

So without further ado, let's hop straight into this novella that takes place between books one and two, and gives us a little more insight into both the heroes, as well as what's possibly to come in the series as a whole!

Love Ghost On, everybody.

Clara is deep into renovating the home she's inherited and moved into when her favourite pen goes missing.

Correctly blaming Ghost Cat, basically the ghost of a cat that she suspects wasn't treated well when she lived here, she and her dog, named Boy, go on a quest to find said pen.

Boy quickly identifies the hiding spot as the very top of the bookshelves in the living room, and Clara in fact finds her pen there, and not just hers, either.

It looks like the cat's been collecting pens for a while now, possibly decades based on what she finds, but she only retrieves her own before going back down again.

Or, she would have gone down to the floor, if not for a hand-bound book she finds.

See, Clara shares her house with a friendly colonial ghost whose name is William, and in that moment she finds a poetry book he's written over the years he's been around, both previously in his mortal life, as well as later on as a ghost.

The first poem is about a yearning love, although Clara doesn't quite recall William talking in that fashion about his wife, Fiona, so I suspect there's more to the story than meets the eye, particularly as the second poem seems to detail his emotions AFTER this person has passed away, whereas his wife outlived him.

The last is about friendship, very clearly about Clara though she herself doesn't come to the same conclusion, but she does invite William to sit down in the living room and read with the rest of them, not that he takes her up on it ... yet.

He's a solitary kind of ghost, you see.

But Clara does muse on the timelessness of love and what everyone's love language seems to be, coming to the conclusion that no matter how much time has passed, love does in fact go on.

And with that, she goes to give Boy his breakfast.

Fin!

Short, sweet and to the point, this is a cute entry into the series that gives us a little more to chew on in terms of what the characters are all about, particularly William, deepening the mystery surrounding this ghost and making us thirsty for more. You definitely learn more as you progress through the main novels, but I think there's something still to come, and I honestly can't wait!

Book four is releasing soon, and I've been approved for the ARC of it, so look for that review here once I'm finished, although in the meantime I might review the second short story of the series as well, we'll see.

Either way, I encourage you to pick up one of Dina Marie's books, you'll definitely enjoy them!

xx
