Tome Thursday: A Wingless Hope

Hello everyone!

And if you're tempted to start singing and dancing the conga ... be my guest.

There aren't really any toads along for this one BUT, that doesn't mean we can't have fun, eh?

In any event, I picked the book off BookSirens, like I do with so many of my other choices, naturally.

Why?

Well, because it was a Thumbelina re-telling, of course!

I'm a sucker for Thumbelina. It's a lovely tale and it's been adapted into probably one of my favourite cartoons of all time, with just the right amount of comedy and romance to make it amazing.

So naturally, when I randomly stumbled over the copy of this book on BookSirens, I had to grab it.

Make sure to shake off all that fairy dust from your wings, then, as we take flight and learn all about secret heritage and family manipulation in A Wingless Hope!

Talkie Tuesday: Pathaan

"Once a bullet is fired, it won't go back into the gun."

Hello everyone!

Oh yeah, we're at it again.

So I had a thought while picking my next movie to watch, and I figured I could probably do a compare-and-contrast between Om Shanti Om, which is on record as the first (of many) collaborations between SRK and Deepika Padukone, and their latest (or one of their latest) movies.

Turns out they released a second one towards the end of 2023, Jawan, but I haven't gotten to it yet and I'll probably take a mini SRK break before I do, but the point still stands.

Starting off in 2007, these two have definitely starred next to one another a couple of times since, and I found it fascinating to see the differences that almost two decades can bring.

Also, I'd wanted to watch this movie since forever, but just never got to it, so finally sitting down and DOING it feels like an accomplishment!

Ergo, we're diving into the spy world, and doing it with style, as our main character would say, because of course he would, in Pathaan.

Tome Thursday: Arcane Gateway

Hello everyone!

And oh boy, I'm sure you're thinking to yourself 'welcome back' as well.

Because it really hasn't been THAT long since I last picked up a book from this author, but to me it does feel like it's been a bit. Why?

Well, unfortunately, I had to finish some other ARCs before I could dig deep into this one, and I'm so happy I waited to be able to take my time with it.

It would have been such a shame to rush!

Especially since I really enjoyed the Elemental Bloodlines series, and I mentioned at the end of it that I would be backpedaling to the original which started it all.

As you can see, this is the start ... of everything.

C. L. Carhart really knows her stuff. So you best be prepared for some really witchy business, age gaps, demonic laughter and time travel as we head into Arcane Gateway!

Talkie Tuesday: Om Shanti Om

"Life's like a film, it always has a happy ending; if it's not happy then it's not yet the end."

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to ... well, another Bollywood extravaganza, really.

I'm starting to slowly accumulate these as I make my way through various different movie careers for actors I genuinely enjoy watching on screen (either because of talent or because - welp, we shallow like that - they're just drop-dead-gorgeous).

I've had this one on the list for QUITE some time, wanting to start with it because it's the Hindi introduction of probably my favourite Bollywood actress thus far, so of course I was going to watch it.

Then I got sidetracked.

Then things happened.

And then finally, this weekend, I sat down and powered through it!

So get out those bell-bottoms, because we're time-traveling back to when they were first popular in Om Shanti Om.

Tome Thursday: Scottish Witches Mysteries

Hello everyone!

And welcome back to the weekly blog post in which we take a look at different books or book series that I happen to be enjoying at the time.

Or, alternately, occasionally - and this is VERY occasionally - I run into something I don't like as much as I had hoped I would when initially picking something up.

Tonight is such a night, aka, the second option.

I had such high hopes for the series that I grabbed off BookSirens, like you wouldn't believe.

Then the more I read through it, the less I ended up liking it.

It's a crying shame really, because all the foundations for a great book series are right there! I don't really know what exactly went wrong, yet here we are.

We'll be talking about the Scottish Witches Mysteries, by Felicity Green.

Talkie Tuesday: The Hunt for Gollum

"If you can't find him ... no one can."

Hello everyone!

And welcome to a rather old movie.

And not just any movie, but a fan-made movie to boot, because of course the fans would have gone ahead and done something big studios would only just recently figure out could be done.

Listen, no shade on anyone but, sometimes the fans do things first.

Better, might I add, than the big wigs!

But seeing as there's now been an official announcement that says this will clearly be a full-length feature film, I went back to watch this after not having seen it in literal years.

And I have to say it still holds up really well!

So buckle up and get out your pipes: we're headed back into Middle-Earth with The Hunt for Gollum.

Tome Thursday: Letting Go

Hello everyone!

Welcome back.

Tonight, we're going to take a look at a very special book that I REALLY wanted to talk about, but ended up needing to take a mini break because, well, life happened.

Anyway.

So most of you know (or should know, based on this blog of course) that I'm a religious fan of Serenity Woods and a part of her ARC team.

Well, she was spreading the word about a writing friend of hers, Ms Angela Day, who was going to be launching her first book in a small town contemporary series, and who at the time was looking for some readers to, you know, get things going.

Turns out she's an absolute sweetheart. And guess who got so very kindly sent an ARC of this first book of hers?

Ladies and gentlemen, Letting Go.

Talkie Tuesday: The Eras Tour

"Welcome to the Eras Tour!"

 Hello everyone!

And welcome back to the blog post shenanigans that we usually get up to in this little corner of the internet.

I unfortunately had to take last week off, because I realized that getting up before 3 am every single morning, working until noon and then needing to function as a fully responsible adult in the afternoon just wasn't going to cut also having typing issues throughout.

So I took the break and recharged, focusing on what I needed, to come back with something I think people will rather enjoy!

Or well, I hope they will. LOL.

God only knows what people read about online these days, after all.

But that said, let's not waste anymore time and jump straight into The Eras Tour.
